Disney Announces "Ultimate Band"

This looks familiar.
Disney Interactive Studios has announced Ultimate Band, a new music-based game for the Nintendo Wii and DS that will let players live the life of an aspiring rock star from the family garage to the world's biggest venues.

The game will combine current hits with all-time classics from some of the biggest names in rock, pop, alternative, emo and the indie scene. The game makes use of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk to give players control of guitars, bass, drums or vocals, and will feature unlockable songs, venues and accessories that can be used to customize characters. The DS version of the game will also have a built-in recording studio, letting players create their own original tracks with the DS stylus, and DGamer support for secure multiplayer action.

"Ultimate Band invites kids, tweens and teens to join in the jam session," said Craig Relyea, Disney Interactive's senior vice president of global marketing. "And whether they choose guitar, drums, bass or front man, members don't need to buy costly, single-function peripherals to play their way through Ultimate Band's deep song list, dynamic venues and customizable characters. The Wii Remote and DS stylus are the only tools they'll need to reach rock stardom in Ultimate Band."

David Hill of music consultants Radial Music, which worked with Disney on the project, added, "Radial worked closely with Disney to compile the perfect song list for Ultimate Band. With iconic songs from every decade since the 60s, these games feature music for everyone."

Ultimate Band for the Wii and DS is being developed by Fall Line Studio and is currently set for a Christmas 2008 release.

So basically they're removing half of the things that make it fun. And almost certainly replacing them with

Pretty much everything Disney does is aimed at tweens.

They invented them. That has been their target demographic since Walt Disney was frozen in carbonite.

The director of a Norwegian museum claimed yesterday to have discovered cartoons drawn by Adolf Hitler during the Second World War.

William Hakvaag, the director of a war museum in northern Norway, said he found the drawings hidden in a painting signed "A. Hitler" that he bought at an auction in Germany.

He found coloured cartoons of the characters Bashful and Doc from the 1937 Disney film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, which were signed A.H., and an unsigned sketch of Pinocchio as he appeared in the 1940 Disney film.

Hitler tried to make a living as an artist before his rise to power. While there was no independent confirmation yesterday that the drawings were the work of the Nazi leader, Hitler is known to have owned a copy of Snow White, the classic animated adaptation of a German fairy tale, and to have viewed it in his private cinema.

Mr Hakvaag, who said he had performed tests on the paintings which suggested that they dated from 1940, said: "I am 100 per cent sure that these are drawings by Hitler. If one wanted to make a forgery, one would never hide it in the back of a picture, where it might never be discovered."

The initials on the sketches, and the signature on the painting, matched other copies of Hitler's handwriting, he claimed.

"Hitler had a copy of Snow White," he said. "He thought this was one of the best movies ever made."

How about that: Weird news from around the world

Discoveries of Nazi-era memorabilia have repeatedly turned out to be mistaken or the result of a hoax. However, art attributed to Hitler continues to sell at auction, even if its provenance is far from complete.

Nineteen watercolours and two sketches said to be by Hitler were sold in Britain two years ago for a total of £118,000.

The auction firm Jefferys said the seller did everything possible to authenticate the works.

The pictures of cottages and rural scenes were found in a farmhouse in Belgium and were believed to have been painted while Hitler was a young soldier in the country during the First World War.

This is a great idea and you are all just bitter because you all felt so cool playing rock band even though you had no real musical talent and now little kids are going to learn about rhythm and when they are your age they might actually take up an instrument and make something of themselves.
