    Hey, MikeMan.

I finished the His Dark Materials trilogy.

    :^: :^: :^: :^: :^:

    The ending:
    :(:(:(:(:(

That's fantastic that you finished it.
    I know... I know.

    Which was your favorite book?

    Hmmm.

The Golden Compass was the best written. He obviously spent the most time on 1, it's immaculately paced and very well-polished.

The Subtle Knife was a little rushed, and it slows down a bit here and there when it stops focusing on the lead characters. It also ends abruptly, forcing 3 to start in media res. I got the sense that he worked on the manuscript for 1 on his own time, but had to write 2 under the terms of a publishing contract and was pushing himself to meet a deadline.

The Amber Spyglass was IMO the least well-written of the three, which is really faint condemnation, because I found them all quite well-written. 3 got a little muddled especially during the third quarter or so, and he doesn't flesh out certain concepts nearly as well as he did concepts he introduced in 1 and 2.

So 1 was the best written, but... I identified very strongly with Will, for a number of personal reasons, so I have to say that 2 was the one I enjoyed reading the most.

To me, The Golden Compass was easily my favorite. I liked The Subtle Knife's introduction of Will, and I liked the dynamic between the two. The events that occurred in 2 were pretty dramatic, as well. Whenever I start thinking that nothing happened in TSK, I remember
    Lee's heart-wrenching death scene

and I realize it had some great parts.

The Amber Spyglass was... very different. Huge in scope, tons of new ideas introduced, incredible plot-wise, and yet as you said, it's a bit disjointed and muddled. Not easy to follow at some parts. The parts with the
    Mulefa
were amazing, as was the ending.
Very sad, though. Brought a tear to my eye, as did Lee's death and the tribute Iorek performed on his body.

So many powerful scenes in those books. I fucking adore them.

Other than the fact that in both there are pillars that get shot?

The Brothers specifically cited it as an influence. If you fail to see the similarities between the scenes, there is no helping you.

Christian Bale did look awesome at the end, I like how he slowly let his hair grow out thoughout the whole movie while at the beginning it was only slicked back.

What the hell. I must watch this movie!

Ignore rottentomatoes, it is a pretty good movie. It's very 1984/Big Brother, plus its kung fu with guns.

I misinterpreted Aegeri's wording to be more of a "The matrix ripped the lobby scene close to verbatim from ghost in the shell" instead of more of the "the guys who did the matrix watched ghost in the shell and were kind of inspired by it"

Yes I can see similarities between the two scenes, but really, they aren't nearly as strong as the similarities between the matrix and equilibrium fights.

I don't care what rottentomatoes says, Ballistic was an enjoyable stupid movie.

And could Chris Tucker be any more annoying? He is easily the most begging-for-a-punch-in-the-face "actor" I've ever seen.

You know what really really pisses me off? When someone pretends to not-like or dis-like something that they do, in fact, like, to avoid being lumped into a stereotype.

What pisses me off even more? When someone tries to lump someone into a stereotype based on the fact that they like something, even knowing the person does not actually fit into the stereotype.
