Man those PS3 software sales are just sad. Sure the DS doesn't leave a lot of room in the top 30 for other consoles but at least the Wii, PSP and PS2 have more than one title thats not just barely hanging on to the bottom of the list.
Anyone know how different the PS3 version of 05./00. Pro Baseball Spirits is from the PS2 one? I sure hope they didn't spend a lot of money to make it extra super pretty or anything.

Found this at gaf. Nex-get.biz has a list of the top 100 selling games for US+PAL here.
Keep in mind that if it didn't launch in the March-March window it won't be on this list. So be careful before drawing any conclusions. Still some very interesting stuff here.

Looks like Proving Ground only sold about 200k more copies than skate, despite skate only being on two platforms (360 and PS3) as opposed to Proving Grounds' 5.
Nice work!
Dawn you lowlylowlycook! I was going to post it but by the time I had typed it all up and previewed it, you'd already posted it. Ah well, I've got the list anyway.

Um, the price drop in EU territories makes perfect sense -- the Yen is down since it tracks closer to the dollar, so Nintendo makes gobs of money by selling a system in the EU. But they can earn a lot MORE money by selling more volume at a lower price, and still come out with gobs of money thanks to differences in exchange rates.
Think of it this way -- a drop to €150 is equivalent to about $240. How much does a Wii cost in the US? So it's not so much a price drop as a simple adjustment, with the advantage of coming across as a pretty substantial price drop.
It's the same reason there's still a shortage of Wiis in the US, compared to Europe -- Nintendo makes more money selling in the EU, so it ships more there. What monetary advantage do they gain from meeting full demand in the US, compared to EU territories? It wouldn't surprise me if the EU adjustment is in response to them shifting product from the EU to the US (but I don't expect to see a US price drop for a LOOONG time).
MP3 for that list is only NA, right? (not that it really sells that well out of NA anyway) If so, that's not bad.
Beyond what we already knew sold well, I'm pretty supprised at Super paper mario and mario strikers. Also, Mysims is pretty darn amazing, is that EA's highest game on the list?

NA and Europe, like I said...
And no, MySims is not the best selling EA game (it sold 1.8 million btw, I made a typo), not even close. I just didn't want to include the boring old EA Sports/licensed games like Fifa (5.7 million), Madden (5.7 million), Need for Speed (5.4 million), Tiger Woods (2.3 million) and Harry Potter (2 million) because well, they're boring.
Looking at that list just brings out how weak PS3 exclusive sales are. Especially since I'm unsure how Motorstorm managed to outsell all the PS3 games that came out in both NA and Europe in this timeframe. Or are Europeans still waiting for Ratchet, Uncharted, etc.?

Last Valve statement put total PC sales for orange box at around 1.5 million. That included sales of individual items. Where is that 2 million coming from?

Seriously, if the 2m is true... It would be a sad day in history. Because $50 for Orange Box is easily one of the best $50 I spent on video games. It comes with like 4 amazing games for the price of one. You can't beat that at all.
I think the more telling part is that the PC really isn't that dead, since steam alone sold more than the retail copies across all platforms, which is obviously why they've been playing the numbers close to their chest

I'm a bit surprised, since I would imagine people that are happy to spend more for a system would be more dedicated to it, and would buy a lot more of the exclusive stuff. Yeah, those software numbers for the PS3 aren't really great.
2m for Orange Box on steam, then 1.1 million across 360/PC/PS3 (despite the bad PS3 port)
A total of 3.1 million is a damn good amount to sell. Never mind the sales of the components of The Orange Box separately.
You're right 3.1 is a good amount, but if you compare it to the top slots it's pretty depressing. Oh well, I just think that this game was MUCH better than the top eight on that list.

I do think one of the problems with The Orange Box is that a lot of people already owned HL2 and Episode 1, and felt ripped off somewhat.
It's a shame because by being such a good deal to anyone without those tow already, it seemed like a relatively worse deal to anyone who did.
Maybe if they had done a 'Black Box' (was it black?) that they had originally planned to, at a slightly lower cost, it could have sold more. Either way, I doubt they will be disappointed. Hell, they just released retail versions of the new components of it for PC, I think they made a lot of money from it, and the scale of Portal's success probably took them by surprise.

iirc that was retail. steam numbers are never released.
i havent pulled the 2 million from my ass, ive heard it somewhere, and i only ever read legitimate sources. ill find a source, almost certainly doug.

Doug Lombari: I’d say significantly stronger, at least a two-digit percentage increase over the console sales. And that includes Steam sales, retail sales, and now individual sales of Portal, Team Fortress 2, and Half-Life 2: Episode 2. So when you take the PC numbers for The Orange Box a la carte, they’re significantly higher.
Total PC sales appear to be well short of 2 million from that statement, and that includes both retail and steam and individual sales. (Quote was from late February)
Edit: Either way the 1.1 million in the list doesn't make sense.

Nono there was something much more recent, like a week or two ago. I think it was mentioned in conjunction with Sins of A solar Empires sales.
UK trade magazine Develop released its fourth annual Develop 100 list Thursday, which showed Kyoto, Japan-based Nintendo on top after three consecutive years of domination by EA Canada.
Develop said games out of Nintendo's Kyoto and Tokyo studios generated £129.83 million in revenues in the UK, up nearly 200 percent year-on-year. Nintendo appeared at number 28 four years ago.
The top five titles (from 1-5) for Nintendo were Brain Training, More Brain Training, New Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Galaxy and the Wii version of Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
The magazine said that through the Wii and DS, Nintendo helped spark a resurgence of Japanese studio revenues, which rose significantly year-on-year.
The magazine said European studios are in "good health," with 36 studios from the UK and mainland Europe making the list, generating £284 million at UK retail in 2007. Canadian studios generated £221 million in revenues and Japan generated £367.76 million, according to Develop.
The top US studio on the list was Call of Duty 4 developer Infinity Ward (#5), which generated £39.6 million at UK retail last year, topping even Halo 3 house Bungie (#8), which generated £31.45 million. The Sims developer Maxis landed in between the two at number seven with £36.84 million.
Develop compiled the list in association with Philips amBX and Sheridans using data from sales tracking firm ChartTrack.
Much more analysis can be found in the free digital version of the Develop 100 here.
I wonder if Nintendo has a Scrooge McDuck style money pool yet.

I beg to disagree. Of those 5 games, 2 of the games were ones I already owned (HL2 & HL2: Ep1) and 1 of them was one I had no interest in (Team Fortress 2) since I'm not into multiplayer shooters. That means I got 2 short expansion pack sized games for $50. Okay, well, admittedly, I got the Orange Box for $25 (Black Friday sale) and Portal was one of the best afternoons of gaming in my life, but to be honest, I've gotten better deals (for me personally) off of XBLA.

Well it isn't including the bundled copies of Motorstorm, since those apparently amount to around 2 and a half million. So I'm just going to guess that Europeans like racing games.
As for the other exclusive PS3 games, the only one I'd call 'weak' is Heavenly Sword's sales. Sony spent a hell of a lot on that game, which is probably why they gave Ninja Theory the boot. R&C games have never been massive sellers at launch, they usually sell over the course of a couple of years. And while Uncharted deserved a lot better, I wouldn't call its sales weak, it'll still end up selling over a million.
As for Orange Box sales, are you sure Lombardi isn't counting previous sales of HL2 and Episode One as well?
15 games sold the same or more than all the PS3 exclusives combined (3.4M). 3rd Party Wii exclusive titles add up to 3.3M.
Weak, I say. Weak.
Hold on, while I was searching that list I didn't see any PSP exclusives at all. Did I miss some?

There really is a branding crisis going on. People often treat PS3 and 360 as the same development entity, going so far as combining their marketshare. I imagine that Sony & MS do not like this at all.
I'd consider 600k+ fairly good for a PS3 game, considering its situation. But there don't seem to be a lot of PS3 exclusive games on that list. At least Uncharted ended up doing fairly well.
