ITT we talk about motorcycles and riding said motorcycles.

I come from a long line of motorcycle riders and the passion for such mechanized contraptions came from seeing my father and his collection of motorcycles through the years. However, I am not really a traditionalist. I prefer my street bikes.

I've had my motorcylce license for close to ten years and through the years I've had several bikes.

Currently, I ride a a 2007 Yamaha FZ1 which is a beast. 990 cc (or 150 hp) of power that will send you to meet the pavement if you're not careful quite quickly.

What do you ride? Do you want ride? What bike do you have? What bike do you want? Let us converse.

A couple friends of mine race bikes on the amateur circuit. Cool stuff. One rides a 1986 VFR 750 that has a near mint body - he can actually get a pretty good speed out of that old bike. His brother recently fixed up a 90s (Can't remember the exact year) Kawi Ninja 750RR that hauls. He's retired the 'frankenstein'. A bike with so many patch jobs that it looked like it was constructed from spare parts.

I've always wanted a 'Busa, but my knee is fucked up so I doubt I could ride a sport bike for long before I was in too much pain to continue. I'm looking a buying a Honda ST1800 sometime in the near future to go on trips with my biker friends.

Cool beans. Have you ever ridden a bike before? A Hayabusa is not something you want to get if you're just starting out. I've only ridden one once and it was really too much power I thought.

I've never owned one myself, but I've ridden quite a few. I know a 'Busa is a ton of power, but a guy as big as me would probably look silly riding a CBR600 or something. :P Like I said, my knee is fucked up - I can't leave it bent for long before it starts hurting, so a sport bike isn't in the cards for me. :(

Never too little for a sport bike. The lady that trained the motorcycle course I took couldn't have been over 5' tall, and she rode a GSX-R 6.

As for me... Had a 2005 Orange Kawi ZX6R (636)... lady made a left turn across my path and I slammed into her broadside at about 35. Totalled that one.

    Before:
    636Small.jpg

    After:
    Wreckage2.jpg

Then I bought a 2006 black ZX6R, and something happened to the engine after about 500 miles. Took it in for repairs, didn't get it back for 6 weeks. Got stolen 2 days later.
    Zix.jpg

    I don't currently own a sportbike.

    Did you get hurt?

Leg Wound/Bruise - Must have smashed something with my leg during the crash. The entire area around that bruise was completely numb for about 8 months, and it still doesn't have all the feeling, and probably never will. The open wound scarred up in a nasty way, and it's ugly, though small. There's also a bone chip floating around in there somewhere that gives me trouble once in a while. For reference, the accident happened in October 2005.

My Arm - Pretty minor cut on my arm, though it was quite a bit deeper than the picture shows. Still have a scar from that that I'm pretty fond of.

All in all, my external injuries weren't bad. My back and ribs were pretty torn up from the impact, so I did a few months of physical therapy 3 times a week to get back to normal.

Honda CBR125 would be ideal for you. Smaller bike. Or the Kawasaki Ninja 250. Anything on the low ranger.

You know, if only they made the small sport bikes a little less ugly. The Ninja 500 is the only one that sort of looks like maybe it's close to attempting to possibly be a sport bike. The 250's are ugly across the board. Also, she can make a 600 work, it just requires slight lowering and perhaps shaving the seat.

Well, I was thinking that because she's small and also learning, the 250 is the best choice and then move up into the 600s where you're going to have to do some lowering in order to make it work.

Ya probably the 250 would be good. If you go any lower than that you might have trouble keeping up with traffic. You could also look at my bike, the Suzuki GSF500. It's classified as a cruiser but looks like a sport bike. I reckon it's a pretty good one to learn on.

No, I agree with you. Ducati bikes are aesthetically appealing and the lines on that bike are incredibly sexy. However, it seems that Ducati draws in a lot of idiots these days and the guys who want to show off by owning something from Europe.

I can't abide sport bikes. Uncomfortable as all hell.

I'm also 6'5".... that probably has something to do with the fact I can't stand having my legs tucked back behind and under me.

Now cruisers, Cruisers I like. Cruisers are comfortable.

My first bike was a 1978 Harley Electra Glide. Totaled in 1999, a soccer mom decided stop signs didn't apply to her, hit her front quarterpanel as I laid it over and she ran up on it. Sold it for salvage.

My next bike, which I'm hoping to buy in the next year or two, is an exile Fat Bloke.
