Exactly 30, but I think I'm gonna go with level 3. So yeah, I'm going to start doing this. I've already been doing 4-5 sets of 10 for a bit, but this will probably be better than my random schedule.
I'm skipping the initial test and assuming rank 1, because I'm just now getting to the point where I am able to do enough "modified" push-ups that I think there's a chance I can manage real ones. I'm pretty confident that trying to do real push-ups in good form will net me 5 or less.
We need to know your initial max, Nerissa. Nothin' to be ashamed about, but I must keep my lists in order you see.
I think you can understand that. :P
If I try to do an initial test tonight, then I'm going to have an excuse to put off starting, because you know, I can't do the test and then turn around and do day one without a rest first, and I've only got so much time in the day and all, so by the time I do the test and then rest, I'll not do the first day before bed time. And I can't start tomorrow, because with the one day rest between workout days, that would mean I'd be dong day 3 on Saturday, and I'll never make myself do them on a Saturday. And all kinds of excuses...
Maybe I'm underestimating my current level of fitness, but given the fact that the modified ones I was doing are even easier than the knee-based ones, I think I'm safe in saying it's in the 0-5 range.
If you like, I can just give you a guess to fill in your chart. :P Or we can use the level 5 results from my day 1.
.....Impress the ladies you say? Well its bound to be more impressive than me playing WoW.
Skinny out of shape white boy....
Attempt? FAILED!
Rank 1
And so it begins.
Edit: Clarification: I cannot do 1 pushup without either touching the floor or collapsing. (*I can get down, hold, but I couldn't get back up without fist touching the floor then i was able to do so). I considered it a failure and therefore a 0.
edit2:
I'll probably do kneeups or floor touching pushups for the first week or two till I can do 1 solid regular pushup.
It shouldn't take more than a day for you to gain some muscle me lad! Go do some heavy (for you) lifting with your bicep tonight and eat some protein right afterwards, then try to do a push up tomorrow.
You should be able to do 1 right away with just that!
Protip: Trying to do the push up slow is a much harder thing to accomplish. Do it somewhat quickly (without smacking into the floor) and you'll be better off.

If you're really having problems, get one of those big exercise balls. Lie on your stomach over the ball, with the ball under your abdomen or pelvis (the easier you need them, the higher on your body should contact the ball), legs straight out, hands on the floor, and do them that way. It'll get you started on the way to developing enough strength to do even one or two regular ones.
I was doing pushups yesterday while watching "The Last Dragon" (It's awesome. Watch it). While I could probably do more, I only did 20 at a time yesterday, so I'll go with Rank 3. (I'm too sore to really max out today).
It's a lot harder to skip "just today" when there are 20 other people watching for you to post an update.
Seriously though? If anyone quits I am not removing the name, but I will turn the offender red, use [strike]strike[/strike], and put FAILURE at the end.
It will stay up as long as the thread does.
I don't want people to just sign up for one week and run off.
I wish I were in a position to participate, I loves my pushups. I've been on the road for the past month, so I havnt been keeping up, but I traditionally can do 40, putting me at rank 4. I'll be interested to see how this turns out.
You're supposed to do the initial test a day or two before starting. If you're doing the test today, I'd suggest doing Day 1 on Wednesday, Day 2 on Friday, day 3 on Sunday, and starting the next week on Wednesday.
You could do both the initial test and Day 1 today, but the first day will be a lot harder.

EDIT: @Zonky
I would, but I don't think I can lift my arms that high. :P

I can do 22 now, so that makes me rank 3 I guess.
Did 25 on level 5. Geezus my arms, also my heart needs to settle down.

Rank 3, current max 17.
The only way I can see actually doing this is to motivate myself with beer. So no beer until the days push ups are done. Starting today.
Rank 4 - 40 pushups!
...
Now what do I do?
Follow ze instructions!
However I wish I could do 100 exploding pushups so I might just try this out.

Do you guys think this program would work with sit-ups and scissor kicks too?
This is my thinking, as well.
I really hope everyone (especially myself) stays with it.
I read those as "negative 2," and "negative -6" .... I was incredibly confused for a moment.
It will stay up as long as the thread does.

Your shame will be posted for everyone to see.
Max: 7-10 (I kept slipping on the floor and starting over)
Just starting
Don't mess with me by quitting.
Edit: I am going to run an errand. I'll update the list when I get back.
Probably, though I find sit-ups/crunches are much easier to do (so I'd double the numbers).
I need to work off this belly ... push up training would be fun, though.
rank 2, max: 7.
the pitfalls of being skinny now become apparent as i find myself having trouble lifting my body off the ground ;(
edit: NOOOO MY TERRIBLE RANK TOP PAGED
most of all, most of all
someone said true love was dead
but i'm bound to fall
bound to fall for you
oh what can i do

I can do 30 good form push ups,
so that's rank 4 I think.
