Because no one else would, as to not derail the 4e thread. Anyways, I had no idea that people actually made d100s. I thought they were a ridiculous myth that only existed in number generators to scare people like me.

Seriously now. Isn't this getting a little excessive? Haven't people heard of Percentiles?!

Wow. Uh, how long does it usually take to stop rolling? Is it honestly easy to tell which side's the one pointing up with so many goddamn numbers? The pics I've seen make them look like perfectly round clear plastic balls with a colored center. Kinda like those compass balls.

You pretty much have to roll those in a box, or they will never stop rolling.... it's like that scene in Christmas Vacation where he greases the sled.. except that carpet burns better than concrete.

I still prefer the 2d10 method over those numbered golfballs.

They have little dimples over each of the numbers, yes.

They're really more of a novelty than anything else.

Actually, when you buy one, the center of the die (not the clear plastic shell, the actual sphere with the numbers on it) is filled with sand. If you were to fill it with something with more weight to it that can fit in there, it would probably be more efficient.

The girl in my group broke ours and got sand everywhere on the table. That's the only reason I know that.

the sand is actually there to keep them from rolling into traffic every time they get tossed. It actually does slow them down a great deal, believe it or not.

I can imagine, seeing how a ball like that would simply NEVER. STOP. ROLLING. if it were a hollow little sphere with tons of dimples. Apparently the sand wasn't enough for most people's likings.

hell, I've almost disowned my D4. I just don't believe it's anywhere near as random as it's supposed to be. No matter how hard I throw the thing, it seems like as soon as it hits the carpet, it flops over onto one face and plants itself there.

I still have the d20 from my first RPG on my desk - the 1987 fourth edition of Drakar och Demoner ("Dragons and Demons"), aka "the green box". Yes, that's Elric on the cover. No, Elric has nothing to do with the setting. And no, it's not a translation of Dungeons & Dragons, I think it's based on Chaosium's Basic Roleplaying.

    dodv4.jpg

For Americans "RPG" means "D&D", for Swedes it means "DoD". :P (or at least us old people born in the early 80s.)

Why in the name of the holy lord of random numbers are you rolling dice on carpet? Are you mad?

A friend of mine has the red one.

The seam on it is horrible though, and it screws it up a lot. I don't trust it, and neither does he. He only pulls it out and sets it in front of him. Sorta like his beacon-of-nerdiness.

He still rolls 2 d10's, though.

You've never had a friend turn a golf ball into a die, have you?

Damn DM prerogative... Him and his "death traps".... rolled the golf ball for damage. even let us save for half... but the chances of surviving the damage from 1d375 is pretty slim.

    I'm not kidding.

Silver is a bit soft, the edges would probably deform quite quickly. Deep down you really want titanium or iridium dice. Or depleted Uranium.

Yeah, that would be cool, but I'd be worried about mythril dice bumping into each other during a roll and shooting lightning at me, or setting the cat on fire.

I have a couple sets of those precision-edge dice, which came unpainted. I colored the numbers using an art-store paint pen in silver and gold, and they are quite nice. Although they do have some roughness on one edge due to the molding process, I like them better than the traditional dice. And the basic set of seven isn't that expensive either, if you snoop around some of the various online shops. The specialized dice, like the d16 and d24, though, are kind of pricey. I really like the d24 though... I wonder why almost nobody makes any, even as a novelty. It's just more pleasing to me than the d30.

Can't trust those d-odds, better to roll an even die and divide or subtract.

Starting to ramble now, but those metal dice are neat... but I just can't bring myself to purchase any. Mostly since I've already got tons of perfectly good dice laying around here.
