Some people are crazy about these things. I have buddies that rent games that they've read about that have easy to unlock achievements (Avatar: The Last Airbender) just so they can rack up some points.
Not me, I don't care about that overall score, but I do like getting achievements in games I've played. Yes, it is merely a matter of e-Peen extension, but hasn't that been an integral part of our culture since before the internet? Begining with putting in the letterage on that high score, to announce to the world that BUT, ACE or ASS had achieved what others could not.
So, this thread is to discuss hard to get achievements, or proud points, or ones you got the other day. For instance:
I just got on Mirrors Edge the achievements both for going through the game without shooting a gun and beating the game on hard... in the same run through. That was a lot of dying... Hardest part for me was definately the last roomful of guys near the end of the game. I won't go into further details on that one for those that havn't played it. The rest of it was overall a breeze. I also realized how much better I was at the game this time through rather than my first time, and how much better the game is when you know what you are doing.
Also got the day tripper on this one due to opening it up at a big party and playing into the night. The achievement is unlocked by beating story mode within 24 hours of starting it. I'm sure my neighbors wern't thrilled about hearing "Come Together" sung by about 15 people at midnight, oh well.
Also, I've 1000+ pointed Fable II and Resident Evil 5, though I'm missing some of the achievements from the DLC on both.

Wasn't there a contest a few years ago from Old Spice? Gain a certain number of achievement point and win something?
I don't think I'll ever get the toughest ones such as saving at least 50 survivors, I shudder just thinking about trying it.
Oh, I also got the full 200 points on Phantasy Star II for XBLA, but that wasn't much of an achievement.
That being said, I have to remind myself every now and then that I don't care much about achievements and I completely understand why people go for them. Seeing that damn message pop up is just so damn satisfying!
I probably should have done that last week, as I was mainly focused on PS3 games and didn't turn on my 360 once.

I only have two more achievements to get 200 in Peggle, I gotta do the challenges, and clear all the pegs in each level. Considering I already did this in the pc version, it sucks having to do it again.
I should really get more points in GTA4. Loved the game, but didn't play much after beating it because of other games coming out.

I just wish you could make a temporary save that deletes itself upon loading in survival mode. If they did, I'd definitely have it by now.
Oh well, maybe in the sequel!
You mean a quicksave feature like what portable games have, right?
I wish there was a written rule that made this a requirement for all console games.
Hurry up and fucking evolve.
Blog||Tumblr|Steam|Twitter|FFXIV|Twitch|YouTube|Podcast|PSN|XBL|DarkZero
Yeah, exactly.
I have so many games that I'd play more if I could quit anytime I want to instead of having to go to the next save point before I can finish.
If any one of the companies makes that a rule for their next console, they definitely have my money.
Yeah there was, I won the one we put together over at 360Arcadians back in the day by renting Avatar and popping it in at 11:40 PM on the final night of the contest and racking up a quick 1000 points to seal the deal. 4 dollar rental for a 50 dollar Best Buy gift card seemed like a fair trade to me.
And yeah I'm an achievement whore, any game I get usually starts with me checking out the achievement list at Achieve360Points.com to see what I can rack up on one playthrough.
Sitting at 47,700-something right now, my goal was 50K in 2009 (I think I started 2009 at about 38K).
only 50,000?
Weak.
I almost wish they didn't have points, just so I could convince my friends that I do something other than play video games. (I don't)
I really liked the timed running achievements in PoP. Never would have thought to time how quickly I could get from point A to point B in an action game like that.
Achievements are never really very important, but hearing the little bloop and seeing a number go up is pretty fun. I miss it sometimes, having switched back to mostly PC gaming.
Seriously, fuck that drop rate.
I've taken this as a message from my 360 that I should be fighting crime.
Currently for completions I've got
Halo 3
Halo ODST
TMNT-Reshelled
Banjo Kazooie
Banjo Tooie
Worms (the first one)
Nothing really impressive. The only one I'm really proud of is Halo 3, as I got all of the bonus 750g (so the game has 79 achievements total with 1750g.
I was actually recently working on Dead Space, only having 4 achievements left for that one.
I'll probably never get the Drum Trainer ones for Rock Band 2, because between my surround sound and my LCD tv, the audio/video lag is just awful.
Can I just link this, I guess?

Anyway, I hate people that feel like achievements should just be handed to them, but I'm not an elitist at the same time.
The way I see it, achievements should be able to be used as measurements of time. For example, seeing you beat the campaign of Halo 3 is much different than seeing that you got all the skulls, which is much different than seeing you got all the Lone Wolves achievements.
The each represent a general level of time involvement.
Pokemon Safari - Sneasel, Pawniard, ????
As for achievements I'm actually proud of.... I beat Bloody Palace BEFORE being Dante Must Die Mode, even before collecting all skills for both Nero and Dante (granted, I had the more useful ones done). I beat it as Nero and by beating it before DMD mode, it proves I didn't use the super suit or whatever :P
That reminds me, I am so close to 100% Banjo-Kazooie, but I need to know whether that glitch which deleted notes in-game still exists. I got the game at the start of the year, but I'm 4 notes short in Click Clock Wood. I'm hoping I'm just blind and not unlucky.
Oh, god Tick Tock woods drove me nuts, I a good 2 hours looking for 4 notes specifically. Of course, they ended up being the first season (spring) and just around a corner that I never really glanced at. I ended up using a note guide at some point, which was actually kind of helpful since the notes always come in chunk of 3s or 4s or 5s.
Pokemon Safari - Sneasel, Pawniard, ????
Avatar 1000/1000, and Sonic 3 200/200
I'll go after achievements, but I wouldn't call myself an achievement whore. Hell I only have about 5700.

Just remember, when using a note guide, don't assume you've already gotten those because you remember doing it, or because it would have been too hard to miss.
If you have to, literally go through it step by step to find them.

Really really wanna 1000/1000 EDF2017 but the last weapon drop just does not seem to be happening.
Beating Omega 5 was pretty cool, as was Catlevania : SotN.
I've managed to fully complete quite a few, but so many still allude me. Not a fan of massive grind-fests, especially if they are MP-centric. I can't stomach all those ranked games.
Not got any really awesome Achievements for a while, the best recently have been in The Beatles : Rock Band.

a) Watching the opening cutscene
b) Pressing Y to use the compass
c) Pressing LT to talk to Elika.
Then there are collection achievements like the flags in Assassin's Creed. If the game actually told you where the flags were that you acquired, then it would be doable. But the moment you grab one without a checklist, then it's all over. That, and having to listen to an annoying speech every time you load up the game to do some free roaming...not fun.

I'm sitting on 155 weapons in EDF 2017, but I've only finished Easy so far. I actually got my Zexrs 13 hours in and my Lysander Z 14 hours in, so I really have no excuse for not going all the way. At this point it's just a matter of persevering and finishing all the difficulties. I have everything I need to grind out the remaining weapons if need be.
I've completed the most difficult/pain in the ass achievs for Onechanbara. One day I'll grind through Hard, Violent, and Berserk difficulty.
DW6:E is one I could probably finish tonight if I wanted to. All I have left is finishing a single battle with 37 officers that I have yet to touch.
In Mass Effect, I'm in the middle of my insanity playthrough. I think I stopped right before a battle with a certain biotic. It actually isn't that difficult, just tedious since so many enemies are spamming immunity. After that, I just need to grind to 60 and then spam abilities for the remaining achievs. Thankfully I have a few months before that needs to be done.
i think some of them were put in for being awesome, like getting 5 rolls from one car crash, which i got for speeding through times square and hitting a car at a weird angle
i got the acheivement in mid air, and then landed almost in central park
When my Gamerscore became a number not divisible by five, some small apparently obsessive-compulsive part of me started raging.

And QLT, I know what you're talking about, Civ Rev does a similar thing, and I still need to get one more 9g achievement to even my score out again.
