I went there three years ago, and really its better to stay outside of louisville at a hilton garden inn and drive like the three miles down the road i believe it was. What venue are you going to?
Hyatt Place on Hurstbourne is a pretty decent hotel. I stayed there my last night in Louisville.
What kind of entertainment are you looking for? If you're looking to bar-hop, Bardstown Road is a great spot for it on the weekends. Cherokee park and the Waterfront Park are both really nice if you're into that. The Comedy Caravan is a nice place to catch a show.

I would say thats a good idea.
We are going to a place called Uncle Pleasant's. It's an over 21 place, that is featuring a band she really wants to see. Sonata Arctica.

Something during the day is more of what we want.
Get there, check into hotel, concert time, go back to hotel, wake up, check out of hotel, then BLANK until about 5 when we want to leave. So bars are out of the question. A good local place to eat would be something to do, or maybe a museum?

Mark's BBQ place on Bardstown road is pretty nice. There are also lots of little interesting shops there if you're feeling that.
There are lots of private galleries in town http://www.firstfridaytrolleyhop.com/ you don't have to worry about the trolley schedule. You can go in them at any time. This just gives you a rough idea of where they are. Frankfort avenue also has a nice collection of art galleries. In my opinion, they're much more fun and diverse than the museums.
That topic was hijacked into a hot browns discussion.
Which didn't answer anything for me and I figured if I tried again I could get better responses.
Which I am thanks to Derrick and NargorothRiP.
np. Bardstown Road, as indicated from the previous thread before Hot Brown derailment, has a ton of great places to visit, eat and drink at. I'd say you'll enjoy yourself more there then you would downtown.
Someone already linked to the previous Louisville thread. But my recommendations as a Louisville resident remain the same. Bardstown road sucks for parking and traffic during peak hours around dinner time on the weekends so be prepared for walking and parking meters.
Also, a random note about getting to Louisville, there's construction going on with both I-65 and I-264 (the Watterson) and the Watterson construction takes place at night and on the weekends. So if you're going to be using those highways I'd suggest padding your departure times to account for traffic.
I'll try and offer some ideas that have not yet been mentioned. Bardstown Road is often a place to find a lot of things to do but parking can be a problem most weekend evenings and such.
Places to eat:
The Come Back Inn - Restaurant/Bar. There was talk of Kentucky Hot Browns. This place does an Italian take on Hot Browns that is pretty amazing.
Lynn's Paradise Cafe: This is a place that I take all my friends who visit from out of town at least once. You can order anything at anytime and they still take actual reservations, not just call ahead seating. It's American/Home cooking mostly. There's also a bar so you can try that Mint Julip if you must. I love the Meatloaf and the Matador Omelet. This place is sort of crazy, like a restaurant with ADHD.
Kashmir: This is right on Bardstown, across from the small mid city mall. If you like Indian food, this is one of the best places to get it. Very hole in the wall but very delicious. I recommend the Chicken Tikka Masala. Only drawback is that there aren't free refills on Coke etc. Tea, yes. Coke, no.
Ramsi's Cafe on the World: Also on Bardstown and this place is a cool mix of food from all over.
Cafe 360: Open 24/7 and is kind of a college hang out. I never really got interested in going but it's open all the time and it's "cool" I suppose. It's also on Bardstown.
Impellizzeri's Pizza: Home of the 12 pound pizza. Not a bad joint and again there's a bar. There are two factions of this family owned business in Louisville that sort of hate each other, or so the story goes.
Captain Pepper Jack's: This just recently opened I think. Interesting Mediterranean foods and some standard burger/fries as well. There's a small bar but I haven't tried it. The service is a bit slow but the food is great if you like that sort of thing. The Kibbi burger is amazing. Sirloin + Veal + Spices = delicious. It's on Taylorsville which easily accesses Bardstown.
The Home Made Pie and Ice Cream Kitchen: OK so this one is not terribly "cool" or anything but if you want some cake, pie or ice cream. This is pretty much the place to get some. They added a Deli recently but it's not all that exciting. It's on Bardstown but before it gets difficult to park so it's convenient I suppose. It's also underneath a Dance Studio. So dependent on when you visit there's a constant jumping and occasional crashing, which is mildly amusing.
Places to buy things:
Basically just walking down Bardstown from Taylorsville/Trevellian on towards the city will give you a bunch of shopping options. Assuming you prefer things of a more "nerdy" persuasion I have a few places I've found interesting.
Ultra Pop: I first thought this would be sort of more Anime/Manga/Comic oriented and they do have some of that but really it's just a strange smattering of random things that it's hard to really define.
Great Escapes: I suppose a pretty standard comic book shop that also has some music for sale.
Book and Music Exchange: There are a few locations around Louisville but again there's one on Bardstown. It does have a decent selection of old school games and systems for sale if you're into that. Otherwise it's just a really big used book/video/music store.
The Mall St. Matthews is a pretty standard mall that's outside of the city on I-265. There's an Orange Julius/DQ.
Mid City Mall can be accessed from Bardstown Road and has a standard Chinese Buffet and a small movie theatre that sometimes does cool midnight shows of stuff like Blade Runner.
Hope that helps.

Maybe someday, they'll see a hero's just a man. Who knows he's free.

Where is the construction at exactly? Like which exit?

It's just across the river and it has a VERY nice waterfront view of the city on the outside patio.

Also I think there's a twitter page for the "Revive 65" project that is the main traffic issue in Louisville at the present time.
