Can you hook up a keyboard and mouse for any game, like can you play modern warfare with a keyboard and mouse?

I don't own a ps3, but i imagine that the game would have to support those options in order to use them. I.e. a game that wasn't designed to have a mouse and keyboard input wouldn't accept them.

Yup, Unreal Tourney III can be played with a keyboard and mouse. You'll have to do some testing on that, since that's the only game I know of that supports it.

I think games probably never will support mouse+keyboard. The idea with a console is to sit back in your couch and play. M+K wouldn't allow that sort of relaxing approach and, more importantly, would start insane amounts of flame wars between the players using M+K and those who don't (and alienate the rest).

I would love to play shooters cross-platform and more efficiently on my PS3, but it will probably never happen.

I would not buy UT3 with the intention of using a mouse/keyboard on it. There is a well documented problem with the game's support that I ran into. While the PS3 has absolutely no problem recognizing the M/K, the game seems to be hit or miss. I would sit there unplugging and reconnecting the usb mouse/keyboard to the ports. Sometimes after about 20 minutes, it would finally recognize them both. Sometimes only one device would be recognized. There didn't seem to be any pattern to the ports or order things were plugged in...it would just eventually randomly work.

Also bear in mind there is a server option to prevent mouse/keyboard players from joining the game. I don't know how often that's enabled but I guarantee if I was playing with a controller I would lock out mouse/keyboards.

SplitFish came out with some hardware that is supposed to map the right analog stick to a mouse. I haven't tried the version that's supposed to support the PS3. Back when the PS3 first came out I did try the PS2 version with an PS2/USB adapter while playing Resistance, which totally didn't work at all.
