So just got a PS3 today and I'm working on setting it up. Upon starting the system it goes through all the set date and time stuff, well the controller that came with it won't work with the D-pad and I can't seem to get X or O to select or cancel anything.
At the bottom of the menu it says hit X to confirm or edit date and time but the X symbol is grey, is this a controller problem or a system problem?

Did you connect it with the USB cable after starting it up?
Yes sir it charged too. I've tried the reset on the controller and restarting the system. The same problem persists. It's both the D pad and all shape buttons i've found out that don't work.
Called up the store and they're gonna trade it out.
Bluetooth uses the 2.4 GHz range, so there could be a lot of other things causing interference. Microwave ovens, cordless phones in the 2.4 GHz spectrum or some garage door openers can also create problems. I had a lot of problems with my wireless network before I ditched my 2.4 GHz cordless phone for a 5.8 GHz set.
Instead of starting a new topic I just wanted to ask the folks that know PS3 controllers - has anyone had a problem with the Trigger buttons (L2, R2) becoming hypersensitive? The slightest tap of the L2 button registers that I'm holding it down. I think it was a lot of Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (Sprint - L2) and Grand Theft Auto IV (Breaks - smashing L2), but almost exactly one year after buying it, the Dualshock's gone bad. $55/year for a controller is not a reasonable expense for me. Is there a way to make it last longer or a store with a lifetime warranty (thoughts on Best Buy)?
Isn't there a 2 year warranty on consumer electronics? Or was it 3 years. There's some sort of law up here on the subject. It probably won't apply to the US but there might be something similar, google it. Many laws concerning these things are the same worldwide, because all electronics are made in Malaysia anyways.
[EDIT] Laws from mah hood : 6 months warranty according to law, no questions asked. 2.5 years more but you have to prove it was broken due to regular wear and not you spazzing out on it.

I don't have a receipt (well, I think I bought it with a Debit card, maybe I do). I guess I can't just take it back to Target and claim to have bought the controller from them... But perhaps if I can find a transaction which states I bought the controller, I can just bring it up and say "It's broken"? How does this work? I've returned defective products before, but this seems to be a bit different.

Like against the ogre in RE5. Half the time, you push the buttons right and fast but the controller doesn't register it.
