so this game called torchlight is out for PC, and IT IS ONLY $20!
the demo is on steam and can be found
HERE
torchlight is one of those "indie" titles that are all the rage, but it looks and plays better than most games ever made
it's a diablo-style clicky game, but with an art style somewhere between WoW and dungeon runners (if anyone ever played that)
it is SUPER fun/addictive, and you can get it (most easily) from steam!
STORY/INTRO
Word of Ember blazed across the land, and the town of Torchlight flared to life.
Ember is the essence of magic and the keystone of alchemy; it lures the restless with promises of power and riches. Miners burrowed deep beneath the dirt streets of Torchlight, discovering veins of the ore richer than any found in living memory- but they were not the first to covet these mines. The miners broke through into the buried past, a dangerous labyrinth of caverns and ruined civilizations, twisted creatures and the bones of those who came before. Evil bubbles up from the depths and threatens to overrun this town as it has so many others. The heart of a villain has infused the Ember, and his darkness seeps through the veins. To survive, the townspeople must break the cycle of destruction; they need a champion who can destroy the evil at its root. Removing the source of the rot may purify the Ember, but it is a long and perilous journey. The champion must battle through rock and fire, through lost cities and ancient tombs, into the palace of the villain himself.
The adventure is set in the mining settlement of Torchlight, a boomtown founded on the discovery of rich veins of Ember – a rare and mysterious ore with the power to enchant or corrupt all that it contacts. This corruptive power may have dire consequences however, and players set out into the nearby mountains and depths below to discover the full extent of Ember’s influence on the civilizations that have come before.
Players will choose from among three character classes, and venture from the safety of the town of Torchlight into randomly generated dungeon levels, with a huge variety of creepy monsters, endless variations of loot to find, and quests to complete. The endless randomization ensures a long-lived gameplay experience.
KEY FEATURES
Randomization – Our level layouts are randomly created, so each adventure is unique. Monsters, treasures, puzzles, and items are also different each time you embark on an adventure.
Easy, approachable interface – Torchlight is designed to be easy to play right from the beginning. The intuitive interface gives players easy access to a rich and varied world.
Retirement System – Once characters are sufficiently leveled up, they can “retire” and bestow specific benefits and perks to new characters.
Pets – Players will choose a pet to accompany them. Pets can level up along with the player, and will help in battle, carry items, and perform a variety of helpful services.
Character Classes – Players will create and customize a character and choose an animal companion. Through cosmetic choices, skill path decisions, and the treasures they acquire, each character will be custom-tailored and different.
Fishing – Players can take a break from the high-energy pace of adventuring to visit one of the fishing holes and relax and see what they can catch. Fish have interesting benefits for the player and pet, and other rewards can also be discovered.
Editor – Runic Games is embracing our modding community by providing an editor so our players can create and design their own content.
CLASSES
Destroyer: SMASH SMASH SMASH
Alchemist: I CAST MAGIC MISSILE AT THE DARKNESS
Vanquisher: RANGED DAMAGE; BECAUSE SKIMPY CLOTHES DON'T PROTECT MUCH
FUCK YOU, I DON'T WANT THIS GAME
you're the one missing out, buddy (p.s. please don't swear at me)
meanwhile we all get to have fun!
seriously, look at this crap and change your mind already
SWEET PETS
to start with you can choose a dog or a cat
but you can change it into other things by feeding it fish you catch in the fishing minigame!
most fish change it into monsters temporarily, but there are rare ones that change it permanently
your pet attacks, tanks, and can be taught spells (mine can currently summon zombies and hurl fireballs)!
you can even load its inventory up with unwanted loot, and then send it back to town to sell it while you keep on killing things!
SEXY GRAPHICS
somehow the game is only 400MB! how the hell they it has nice visuals is beyond me
dungeons are all randomised/fun, and look something like this
and just for the heck of it here is my alchemist in mismatched armor and his strange pet
NO MULTIPLAYER LOL
Thats right, it's only a single player game!
at first it sounded like it was going to BECOME multiplayer, but apparently that has changed
this game will remain single player, with a SEPARATE set-in-torchlight MMO being released within a year or two
but torchlight is fucking awesome regardless!

i don't know why
(she also has a dog that can summon skeletons)
story is meh and i am bad as hell at not clicking the ground RIGHT NEXT TO A BOSS
but quite fun
Everytime I read the title of this game I thought it was a point and click adventure game. Like Myst.
But nooooooooo its a Diablo-clone which is always a automatic buy from me no matter what. When I got Fate four years ago I played it for almost a day straight when I had duty one time.
if you hold shift while you fire/cast from a distance, you'll stay in one spot so you don't charge into boss attacks
irritatingly there is no real compilation of these little 'hints' anywhere
so occasionally when it shows one during loading it's like FUCK, SERIOUSLY?
to be honest i haven't read a single bit of the story!
i just like making things explode with my pretty chain lighting spell

Critical Failures - Havenhold Campaign • August St. Cloud (Human Ranger)
They have three trees.
The first one looks to be a true caster tree, with focus on the stereotypical caster weapons and some direct and AOE spells.
The middle tree ("Lore" i think) smacks of a summoning set.
And the last tree appears to be very much a Battle-mage type build with skills attached to martial and melee weapons and spells/abilities that are very close-range.
It seems a lot of people are playing Alchemists.

Too bad I don't seem to have video game time lately, but oh well.
It was mainly so she wouldn't by herself anything before xmas/birthday but I played it off as "we need to save money"
if I come home with Dragon Age and she's still without the new kingdom hearts I will have to find a way to make my couch more comfortable.
I will give the demo a spin tonight
Uh-oh I accidentally deleted my signature. Uh-oh!!

Right now you can enchant low level plain old green items like 3000 times and make them better than any set/named item in the game. it doesn't add any level restrictions, and you can pass things from easy to very hard characters via the shared stash.
I started with a summon spec alchemist and got to like level 40 and died (fu hardcore mode). I now have a level 16 vanquisher who's getting maxed out dual weild/ranged damage/crit specialization.
-Mikal-
ever tried to make a potion?
shit's hard, son
can't just swing a hammer at it and hope for the best
you gotta use reagents and shit
well you have to use the RIGHT ones. not just ANY blacks can pair up to make more.
-Mikal-
but uh
I never played diablo so
next you're going to say you've never played a super mario bros game
I've tried everything. Every folder separately, every file separately, nothing. The potion merchant doesn't sell them.
