MOTW 11-4-09: Happy Festivus to all

Secret Six #15 was a good story for those of us who don't know about Deadshot's history, and it seemed a lot better than Ostrander's Detective Comics fill-in stuff a few years back. Calafiore has some nice art as well:
And Cinderella: From Fabletown with Love was a very good start, and seem to take place after Fables #75-76, in that area. It's a good story worth picking up in singles since the trade for War & Pieces (where this story jumps off from) has been available for months.
The gist of the story is that relics from Fable worlds are being trafficked into our world, and Beast gets Cindy to put a stop to it. And we see some of Cindy's informants in this book, who we haven't seen before:
I just like when they mention how the more popular their stories are the more powerful they are in our world.
Last page of Reborn was pretty Holy Shit for me, and for some reason I didn't see it coming despite the now fairly obvious foreshadowing. UCSM was all-around solid, and the AoNO iHerc preview one-shot had some great Spider-man/Herc moments.
Finally I decided on a whim to pick up the hardcover collection of that 5 issue Sherlock Holmes miniseries from Dynamite and it's a very nice package. Along with the mini you get the script book for issue 1 and the Devil's Foot short story from Sir Author Conan Doyle himself.

My MOTW is the fact that IDW released a three page preview of Transformers #1, the first in the new ongoing that will start November 18th.
Unfortunately, it has Major Fucking Spoilers, and I'm not too fond of the art style, but I'm pleased they're actually showing something, and that they're even bothering with an ongoing. http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=23587
I liked Great Ten #1, but maybe it's just because I've been starving for these characters since 52. I feel like they're going to want to steer it towards some mainstream DCU cameos for it to get attention.
I really love the way Hitch draws Latveria, and Brubaker's writing kinda makes me wish he had done the Fantastic Four run with Hitch, but did anyone else think
the Red Skull inhabiting Roger's body was kind of a retread? Well not exactly because it was a clone last time, but still.

USM #4 has this really really good scene between MJ and Peter (I really dig Lafuente's art but he's drawing MJ too much like Gert or "fat girl with glass"):
I just like that scene with Peter and Johnny and the gun fingers, they wild and crazy guys!
I get the feeling Bendis is focusing his attention on USM again instead of his Avenger books.
I like the USM cast members all now have looks that are pretty distinct from their mainstream counterparts. It signifies that the book isn't just about a teenage version of Spider-Man anymore.
Peter Parker, you told that girl you would like to marry her. You told her that you loved her. And now instead of going out with the hot redhead, you are going out with Gwen Stacy who eats with her mouth open.

Sort yourself out.
Isn't that the definition of a highschool romance?

After seeing a late-night movie about two drunk co-eds and a pizza delivery boy, I think I've come upon a very creative solution to this problem.

No! Peter Parker and Mary Jane's love is pure! PURE! And if they trample all over it in 616 then they should at least let us keep the teenage equivalent in the Ultimate Universe, god damn it!

What does Peter getting a job delivering pizza have to do with anything? Oh...wait. You want Gwen and MJ to become friends again adn bond over a pizza. That makes more sense.
I really, really hate peter's hair in that. Holy shit what a bad hair cut.
He went to his barber and said, "Give me the Bart Allen."
And then his barber shot him with a freeze gun and beat him to death.
...ouch... bad form.
great top of page though.

Man I thought I was the only one who didn't like the new art. To be more specific, it's those god damn faces...and Peter's hair. Holy crap, Peter's hair...

It's even worse than Bagley's first few books. I liked it when he got a haircut around #30.
Impulse bought Batman Confidential #36, and it's been my favourite book this week. I've never heard of the writer (Royal McGraw) or the artist (Marcos Marz), but this was a fun story involving Batman and the Blackhawks. And some nice cheescake of Zinda Blake, which to be honest is why I bought book in the first place.
This was a great week with a lot of good books and awesome moments, especially in Brother Voodoo and Savage Dragon. But the best was Absolution #3:
The Technocrat, a Forge-wannabe villain, spends the issue blackmailing the hero and monologue-ing about how l33t he is. And then this happens:
Just because I always want to see Superman fry Luthor's head with eye beams or Joker take a batarang to the throat every time they start giving a speech.
That's because right now, Peter is a douche. His hair reflects his life choices, once he gets back together with MJ he will get it cut and look like less of a douche. An awesome girlfriend improves personal grooming. FACT.
True, but I'd rather be single and wait a while to see if MJ changes her mind than go out with a girl who sprays food across the table. That is just not attractive at all. Plus I never liked Gwen, I wish that she'd have stayed dead.

I thought the art in USM was serviceable in the first issue (despite the fact that I hate the anime/manga style) but it seems to be getting sloppier and sloppier as the issues progress.

I like his art, his angular style stands out, especially on his Exiles work. And he's a monthly artist.

The Assault on New Olympus one-shot was probably my moment of the week. Herc fighting Spider-Man was pretty great.
Also last page of Necrosha was nice
My favorite part is that this story has boiled down to a battle of the minds: Reed Richards vs Doctor Doom.
(I know, I know. I should have seen it coming!)

Except for Peter's hair. Jesus it's terrible

Bart Allens hair cut looked less ridiculous than this. But to be fair Bart Allen also had completely different proportions.
The point is Peter looks like a douche. Such a douche
