THE PHALLAM@STER
A MrBlarney Production
with assistance from cj iwakura

Based off the IDOLM@STER game series by Namco-Bandai

Genre: Traditional (Village vs. Mafia), Expanded (Additional Sub-Game Mechanics), Audience Participation

In the world of pop idols, competition is fierce. With so many idols competing for market space, it's very difficult to make a name for oneself in the industry. The difficulty of getting exposure and recognition means that some of the most important places to make a mark are in auditions and competitions. Among these competitions is the newly-created PHALLAM@STER competition. A multi-stage western-styled competition with lots of potential exposure, this competition could mean a big break for the idol that wins the title. Of course, with so much to gain from winning, there are those out there that will resort to underhanded tactics to try and get an advantage on the rest. Fortunately, the managers and fans will each have a say in who ends up on the top of the rest. Who will win the competition? Will it be an idol managed by a hard-working and honest producer that is voted to the top? Or will another idol get to the top due to dubious means?

Game Overview
Players in this game take the role of producers for prospective idols entered in the PHALLAM@STER competition. While most producers are honest, there are a few in the competition who are determined to win and are willing to resort to underhanded tactics to eliminate their competitors. It just wouldn’t be right to allow such people to win, and so it’s your job to show off the power of honest work by making sure that none of them take the competition.

Honest Producer Win Condition: Eliminate all dishonest producers so that an idol managed by an honest producer wins the competition.
Dishonest Producer Win Condition: Eliminate all honest producers so that one of the idols in your group wins the competition.

Idol Stats
Idols should be original characters, but you may draw upon characters in existing works for inspiration. Each idol has four stats: Dance, Vocal, Visual (Appearance), and Character (Personality).

20 points may be distributed between the four stats, with a minimum of 1 point in each stat. There is no maximum stat limit. Once allocated, these statistics are permanently set. Each day, one point may be added to any single stat.

An additional flexible pool of 5 Appeal points can be allocated among the four stats in any distribution. Every day, these points are reset and may be reallocated in any fashion.

Competition
Every day, the popularity of each idol is judged in competition. All possible pairs of idols are compared on their four stats values. If one idol leads in more statistics than another idol, then that idol receives five popularity points (PP) while the other receives none. If the two idols tie in the number of leading statistics, then each idol receives two PP. After all points are calculated, the proportion of PP each idol has obtained is recorded as a percentage. The idols with the lowest percentages are entered into a special vote where one idol must be voted out of the competition. The idols with the highest percentages get immunity, and cannot be eliminated from the competition in any fashion. Popularity points earned through competition are reset each day.

If there are eleven or more idols remaining, the bottom five are subject to the special vote, while the top two get protection. If there are eight to ten idols remaining, the bottom four are entered into the special vote and only the top idol has protection. When there are six or seven idols remaining, the bottom three are at risk to the special vote, while the top idol maintains immunity. When there are five or fewer idols, then there is no more special vote, and no immunity is provided. However, popularity is still tabulated to determine the winning idol at game end.

Competition Example
Let’s say that we have four idols, A, B, C, and D, whose stats are distributed as follows: A has Dance-6, Vocal-7, Visual-8, Character-4; B has Dance-7, Vocal-7, Visual-7, Character-5; C has Dance-5, Vocal-7, Visual-7, Character-6; D has Dance-6, Vocal-6, Visual-7, Character-6.

There are six different possible matchups: A-B, A-C, A-D, B-C, B-D, and C-D. For the A-B matchup, idol A leads idol B in the Visual category, idol B leads idol A in the Dance and Character categories, and both idols have the same Vocal stat. Since B leads two stats while A leads only one, idol B will earn 5 PP from the A-B matchup and A will earn 0 PP. In matchup A-C, idol A earns 5 PP, in matchup A-D, idol A earns 5 PP, and in matchup B-C, idol C earns 5 PP.

In matchup B-D, idol B leads idol D in Dance and Vocal, while idol D leads idol B in Visual and Character. Since each idol leads in two categories, both idol B and idol D will earn 2 PP. For matchup C-D, each idol leads one category, with ties in the remaining two, giving idol C and idol D 2 PP each. The total popularity point tally for the four idols for the competition would be the sum over all matchups: idol A has 10 PP, idol B and C have 7 PP each, and idol D has 4 PP.

Audience Participation / Bonus Points
With audience participation, idols may receive bonus points with fan support. Any non-player may support an idol by sending the host a PM with a !vote in bold dodgerblue for which idol they wish to support. Each vote made gives that idol a 1 PP bonus for that day's competition, up to a total of 10 PP per day. The idol that receives the most support each day gains a permanent 1 PP boost to their popularity. Players are not allowed to make this vote, even after they have been eliminated.

Players are, however, encouraged to campaign for votes for their idols in the thread. In addition to bonus points earned by private votes, players may also claim bonus points through original writing, art, music, or video. Posting profile or background information about their idol will earn a 1 PP bonus. Other campaign-focused text posts will earn 1 PP. Original art of an idol will earn 3 PP. Music will earn 3 PP, video will earn 5 PP. Points received may change according to perceived effort and quality. For music and video, produced work does not need to be of or from the idol - it may be music and video of players and non-players. See the next section for details. Eliminated players and non-players are allowed to help players with campaign materials by sending them such items via PM, but players are the only ones who can post materials. Communication between forum members is allowed for the production of campaign materials, but no game strategy talk is allowed otherwise. A maximum of 12 PP may be earned through campaign materials each day. Multiple submissions of the same type will each be counted individually. (For example, two pieces of art can earn 6 PP.) Half the points earned via campaign are carried over to the following day, rounded up; these do not count against the points that may be earned the following day. (For example, if an idol earns 5 PP one day through campaign materials, 3 PP are carried over to the following day and an additional 12 PP may be earned through new campaign materials.)

Campaign Guidelines
Profile information should include items such as the following: Name, Age, Height, Weight, Physical Description, Birthday, Blood Type, Three Sizes, Hobbies, Likes, Dislikes. Background information should include personality information, motivations, history, and habits. Artwork should be original and of the idol being campaigned.

Guidelines for music and video are much less restrictive than that for art, if only for the fact that it's a bit difficult to find actual pop idols to sing and dance. Music and video works submitted for campaign need not be of or from the idol being campaigned, but should still be original work created by forum members. Music works include things like song covers and singing. Video works include things such as music videos or dance videos. Original music is still welcomed - in those cases, lyrics or vocals are not necessary. Music and video works should exceed one minute in length.

It is worth repeating that players do not have to create campaign materials by themselves. Other forum members (including eliminated players) and non-members are allowed to create materials for players still in the game. Collaboration is allowed, as long as talk of the game and game strategy are not made in communications. It is also worth repeating that the amount of points earned may change according to perceived effort and quality. While I will be relatively liberal with accepting campaign works for points, exploiting the system will not be rewarded. Use your best judgment and be reasonable.

Idol Example
Name: Akira Kanamura
Age: 17
Height: 163cm / 5' 4"
Weight: 47 kg / 104 lb
Physical Description: Slim, athletic build. Short brown hair, normally tied in a ponytail.
Birthday: August 3
Blood Type: O
Three-Sizes: 80-57-81 / 31-22-32
Hobbies: Baseball, running.
Likes: Contests, competition.
Dislikes: Waiting for others.
Background: The athletic Akira Kanamura seems like a rather unlikely person to become an idol. The main influence for her to take this path lies with her older brother, currently a college student and member of its baseball team. As she was growing up, Akira took quite closely to her brother, taking after his love for sports and developing an energetic, though impulsive, personality. When her brother joked that Akira’s energy would be put to good use as a pop idol, she decided on a whim to go to a tryout to test her luck. To her surprise, she was picked up by a production agency and now she finds herself as a potential new star in the pop idol industry.

Voting
There are two different votes for this game. The first vote is the producers' vote, which acts like the traditional vote in Phalla games. Every player may make a !vote in bold red indicating the person they wish to see eliminated from the competition. Players whose idols currently have immunity cannot receive any votes. The person who receives the most votes during each game day will be eliminated, as will the idol they manage.

The second vote is the audience vote, which is a special bonus vote based around the competition results. The four or five idols with the lowest popularities after each competition are entered into this special vote. Every person, whether they are a player in the game or not, and including eliminated players, may make one !vote in bold yellow for one of these idols privately by sending the host a PM. The idol who receives the most votes during the game day will be eliminated, as will the player managing them. This vote will occur every day after the first until there are five or fewer idols remaining.

Vote closes and all actions are due at 8PM PST / 11PM EST / 4AM UTC. Any actions or votes made before the hour (x:59) will count, while actions or votes made on the hour or later (x:00) will not count. In the case of a tie for either vote, the tie will be broken in favor of the player managing the idol with the highest popularity (or randomly if there are multiple leading idols and votes are split between their managing players).

Summary of General Activity
Players who are still in the game will participate in the producers' vote and post campaign materials for their idols in the game thread. Via PM to the host, they may make votes for the audience vote and assign their idols' stats for competitions.

Eliminated players may make votes for the audience vote via PM to the host. Eliminated players may also send campaign materials via PM to non-eliminated players.

Non-players may make votes for both fan support and the audience vote via PM to the host. Non-players may also send campaign materials via PM to non-eliminated players.

Information
At no point will information about an idol's stat distribution will be made public. Narration results will list whether or not each idol’s producer was clean (village) or dirty (mafia).

Signing Up
Sign up for this game by posting "!sign up - <Idol Name>" using an image color below of your choice. Idols should be original characters. Each image color may only be chosen once: first come, first served. Improper formatting and edited posts will not be counted. Once you have selected an idol, send me via PM your idol’s starting stats (20 points among Dance, Vocal, Visual, and Character, and not including the Appeal points) to verify your sign-up.

Inactivity
As always, it is expected that players will try to make at least two posts and vote each day, but it is suggested that an effort to be more active than this be made. If inactivity is sensed, a warning will be sent out; if the warning is not heeded, the player in question will be replaced or eliminated from the game.

General Rules
Standard Phalla rules apply: no sharing of host-provided PMs via screenshots and direct quotation. However, information may be shared indirectly, such as through rephrasing. No anonymous contact is allowed. All messages must be traceable to a player in the game. Play nice.

If any players create 'proboards' for private communication, please send a link for it to the host.

While there are things for non-players to do during this game, non-players are still prohibited from posting in the game thread once the game has commenced and are restricted from contacting others still in the game except to provide materials for fan support purposes. Contact between non-players should similarly be limited. Eliminated players are also subject to these general rules. Players who are still in the game should not contact any non-players or any players who have been eliminated from the game except for fan support purposes (i.e. no strategy talks).

Questions and Answers

Ask questions and clarifications in bold orange. Answered questions will be collected in this space.
Q: Is there a cap on the maximum value of each statistic?
A: There is no maximum cap.

Q: Is there any restriction on nationality for idols?
A: There is no restriction on nationality, though it is preferred for thematic reasons that you create an idol of Japanese or Japanese-mixed ancestry. Otherwise I would have made an American Idol / America's Got Talent Phalla instead...

Q: Can a non-player only give fan support to one person a day or such?
A: Non-players can only make one fan support vote per day. However, they can provide campaign materials to multiple players if they wish.

(If there are 12 players signed up by Tuesday, November 10, 12 AM PST / 3 AM EST / 8 AM UTC, then the game will start then, with a shortened Day 1.) Any Campaign materials posted during Day 0 will count in full toward bonus points for Day 1. This game is expected to run for 5 to 7 game days. Jesus Blarney, you really did it.

    Clarification:
There's a min for each stat. Is there a max?

Is there any restriction on nationality for idols? I only ask because of the Japanese name resources included in the OP.

Perhaps I should rephrase that, then. You can be as creative as you want when creating an idol for this game, uniqueness is rather encouraged in fact. The only real limits that I'm putting forth is that the managed idol be of Japanese or Japanese-mixed ancestry and be female, due to the theme of the game. Anything else goes, pretty much, and even the 'limits' can be bent or broken if there's a good enough reason / story behind it. So don't feel limited when you've got almost complete freedom here.

Well, at this rate, there won't be enough players to really make for a compelling game anyways.

It seems like there's some reluctance to sign up because of the theme or because of the bonus point mechanics. I do apologize somewhat for the theme; the idea came into my head while doing the Dr. Lucky Phalla, and being the 'best worst idea', I felt somewhat compelled to follow through. Certainly it is a bit of a fringe thing, but this is just the way I thought of to do the theme justice. I would also like to say that the campaign mechanics are entirely optional - you don't have to commit yourself to producing any additional materials and can easily play this game straightforwardly. There is no obligation at all to produce extra content, not even profiles or background information.

But then again, I might be overthinking things. There's still plenty of time left in the sign-up period, so there's still a possibility that there are players still lurking in the shadows to sign up.

This is a game that would be worth some cross forum advertising if that is allowable. I'd be excited to see what kind of participation could be had from the AC or SE

The theme sounds.... interesting . This one sounds like I'd have more fun cheering and such from the sidelines. But I do want to see this go, so if, once weekend-itis ends for a bit, you're still suffering from a dearth of players, I wouldn't mind signing up. People are allowed to recruit forum members who aren't CF regulars, that's no problem at all! Of course, use your best judgment and don't be a nuisance when doing so.

This one sounds like I'd have more fun cheering and such from the sidelines.

Yeah, this kind of sentiment bothers me a little bit. If you're cheering from the sidelines, all you're doing is observing, making your fan votes, and helping with campaign materials. Non-players aren't allowed to post in the game thread once the game commences, you know? Then it's up to the players to try to rally the support of the audience to them for bonuses. They're the ones who are really going to get involved.

Does it have to be crazy Japanese? I was going to break the mould and do exclusively early 2000's British Rock covers, starting with Dreaming of You by the Coral, sung as if being stung by bees.

Campaign materials need not be Japan-centric, really. I'd like to encourage artistic freedom as much as possible, so I'm not going to put many limits on what will be allowed/counted. The only things I'm putting guidelines on are the character creation, and even then, they can be broken with good reason.

    To be totally fair

Finding out the Cornet actually comes from somewhere only happened in like the last two hours

    Previously I was oblivious
