Passenger Window Smashed: Now What to do?

So smashed window, nobody took anything because I think they smashed one guys window took his stuff, then smashed mine and someone saw them. Anyways I have to call in the police report during business hours tomorrow, and then I was gonna call my insurance. Anyone know does insurance cover this usually, yes/no? I'm sure it depends on the plan.

Let me know if you've had to deal with this before.

Typically yes. Like you said though, it all depends on the plan. If it's just the window it won't be too expensive though. Might be worth asking if it'll effect your rates and just doing it yourself.

As long as you don't have the most budget of budget insurance out there, yeah it's covered. Most likely it won't affect your rates, at worst you might see a slight increase when the policy comes around to its annual renewal as they may claim you're in a more "at risk" area, but probably not. Definitely get a police report, the insurance company will want a copy of it.

Your deductible is likely more than the cost to replace the window.

Yeah, it's probably going to cost slightly under your deductible to get it replaced. Safelite Auto Glass will give you an online quote, and come to your house to fix it. I know they do front windshields, to they probably do sides as well if that's what you need.

But heck, you might as well check with your insurance company and see if you're covered.

To give you some idea of cost here, this happened to my roommate's early-this-decade Honda Accord about three months ago. New windshield + installation was less than 300. I will be astonished if your deductible is less than that.

    Unless you have glass insurance.

    You should have glass insurance.

You should have *$0 deductible* glass insurance.

Well, this happened to me twice... in underground parking...
The first time it was just the glass broken. The second, they stole stuff. Insurance covered the glass both times, no increase in premiums. However, the items stolen were less than my deductible, so those weren't covered (they're covered by my Condo policy, not the auto policy, actually).

I don't believe it - I'm on my THIRD PS3, and my FIRST XBOX360. What the heck?

Good point, my renters insurance covers items in my car. Neat-o.

Some insurance will pay 100% for windshield replacement since it's a serious safety issue to be driving around with a cracked or broken windshield.

    State Farm does, for one.
