Because I need somewhere to talk about this stuff and the other thread was locked.
Let's all welcome our resident Job Guy, JoeUser, who is insanely helpful!
Let's say BOO to EA who has recently laid off 1500 people.
Let's talk about how we love, hate or tolerate our jobs.
Let's talk about finding work, where to find it, how to prepare for interviews, resumes, and more!
Annnnnnnd: go.
T Daysleeper: Remember how I sent out that hard copy resume/cover letter? I got an interview! ...But they hadn't yet received the hard copy. Maybe it's the thought that counts.
I've been pretty worried for a while about finding a job in film once I graduate, but last week I met a bunch of dudes who either will give us jobs when we finish, or will get us in touch with people who will. I'm pretty happy!
I love my job, I get paid relatively well, and I get to travel from time to time and stay at really fancy hotels with car services.
Also, I pretty much set my own hours and get to plan out my own projects.
what is this job of yours?
I'm a systems engineer with a government contractor. It's a loose term, on any given day I'm a project lead, a programmer, business analyst, network admin, help desk engineer and technical writer.
Oh, and I have interns, which prime time television suggests makes me super awesome like House or the black woman on Grey's Anatomy.
Temp working at a law firm. It's so-so...pay kinda sucks, but I can get my rent in on time and afford food. Still looking for something a little more long-term and more profitable, of course. This humanities degree is working out great...
though I do get to watch the ice skaters which can be terribly amusing from time to time
Find me a job where you work
well the other two girls I work with are currently hunting down new employment so if you like sitting around occassionally appraising/buying gold then we might have openings somewhere in the next few months

I actually have experience in gold appraisal kinda!
Do you know of anywhere else in the mall that needs help?

Go in to try and get my background check again tomorrow, they closed an hour earlier then I was told. Mann.
government jobs are pretty awesome. get them if you can. working for the man woo woo
These things are both true.
The $32 million five year proposal I was working on came back the other day and we got it. It was fantastic. The CEO gave the proposal lead a bottle of champagne and we all enjoyed a drink or three at like 10:30 in the morning.

You should see if they are hiring any more.
Hook a brother up
Or next friday, I forget.

Almost every aspect of it is enjoyable except the location.
And the fact that I have bad hearing to begin with and the thick indian accents aren't helping.
we also talk about other random shit and clown upon each other

If it was me, I would be feeling like there was no end in sight now.
No one that I know of
I barely work 5 days in a row.
I talk to my boss literally once a month.

But it is a pretty good job, most of the time.
I discovered today that the French Foreign Legion doesn't pay as well as you'd think.
you know what our top question is?
"Do you buy gold?"
We push the boundaries all the time which is super awesome, and creates more work and lots of headaches.
Sometimes I'll put in 60+ hour weeks though. That shit sucks.
"Nope, only silver"
But you do get citizenship in whatever name you signed up under, no questions asked.
If I ever end up hugely in debt to the point where I can't see a way out.
I am -definitely- joining the French Foreign Legion. The man's way out.
You guys made Jaws Unleashed, right?
the klatchian foreign legion is where it's at
Spain also has a foreign legion.
It's even less pleasant.
