It was a documentary I saw a couple years ago (same time as In The Shadow of the Moon) that covered a village somewhere in the middle east which used to burn kerosene/oil lamps. They saved money by pooling their resources to pay for someone to get trained on a solar generator repair, have one installed, and to power LED lights. SO not only are they saving money, but they are also able to have light longer through the night without the smell.
