hello h/a
I spend about eight hours a day doing shit in indesign and I would like to cut that back if at all possible, so I'm looking for ways to better automate tedious shit I keep having to do manually. it's fun!
this week's project is learning how to strip text from a story and place it in an object, which is then anchored within the story. specifically: I have lists of items followed by short paragraphs of text, which I need to style with a grey tint in the background. currently I'm having to fit the story and then place the tints manually, but that's imprecise, time-consuming, and leads to more work if I have to add / delete text later on.
there's a solution
here, but a) it's in javascript, and I need an applescript solution to fit into an existing script, and b) it doesn't actually work when I run it — some tints appear normally, but the rest are all over the shop. I'm reasonably sure the object style I'm using for my tints isn't at fault, because I can manually anchor the objects myself and they work fine.
does this even make sense? I'm not sure if there's better terminology I should be using, or even a different approach to fixing this problem.
any help would be fantastic!
love, baron
