So today i went into gamestop to trade in arkham asylum before it is worth about $5... and to see if i can get further towards Modern Warfare 2 which i want but cant afford (being married costs money!)
so gamestop is having one of their sales where they take basically any game for the ps3/wii/360 and the more you trade the more you get, topping off at an extra 40% for 6 games or more.
seeing as i had $57 worth of trade, adding an edge card would help me on the used title, and it would get me a year of game informer.
i remembered that magazine. the halfway decent one where if you can get over the fact that it pushes whatever gamestop wants to sell you there are some good articles.
but things are different now.
first of all, have you seen this months cover feature?
its for a wii game.
its for "epic mickey" which is some title that is a "darker side of mickey mouse"
really?
so other than that its the same, right? well, no not really. i guess they want to compete with real competent gaming websites, so now there are some articles about movie games, something about keeping the storyline of a game straight... and some other sort of crap.
they even took out the classic game informer feature at the end of the magazine...
if it werent FREE with the edge card, i would never buy this thing.
the last version was more for gamers. this version is for... f*cking everyone. like a wii.
which i do not own.
and there is a reason for that.
i dont get it.
not at all.

Yes, really, and if you took a moment to look at what it was you might understand why some people are excited. Unless you just want the cover to be Madden 2049, bro.
Limed for truth.

Do you have trouble "surfing" the "world wide web" too, old-timer? :P
It totally is, actually.
I guess Game Informer's no longer a hardcore magazine, huh?
Also, yeah, fuck stuff that's for everyone, like the Wii. We're all part of an exclusive elite club of gamers and only the true hardcore are allowed into the club.

Their review scores are horrible, but the actual written reviews aren't really that bad.
Some interesting articles in there too.

My complaint is their new redesign made half the features in the magazine unreadable or indistinguishable from other articles or ads. Poor design I say

In other words, your opinions are bad and you should feel bad.
Actually I was 6, I haven't updated my age in the profile blurb in quite awhile.
But my point still stands

I didn't join Nintendo Power until I got a thing saying I could get a free copy of Dragon Warrior with a subscription. I think it was late in the first year.
I was always jealous of a friend of mine who had the first issue.

A 6 year old me was convinced that I could have done a better cover shot using a polaroid camera and some play-doh from my kindergarten class.

I haven't seen a game informer in ages.
I just remember when they tried to sell subscriptions at Funcoland feeling like they were like 2 pages that weren't just ads.
Ah Funcoland. I learned a long long time ago to never use retail game trade ins.

No Fight and Heal?
No Nevar Forget Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door?
I've seen it all folks.
It was actually a Wii bitch thread in disguise.
We're just talking about other things now.

I think mom still has a nintendo fun club mag somewhere.
IIRC, the Dragon Warrior offer turned out to be their biggest success. At least, that's what the (5? 10?) year issue said.
Ah, video game "journalism".
It literally determined most of my taste in gaming.
After playing Dragon Warrior my uncle lent me his copy of Final Fantasy and that was that.

But Game Informer does suck, just not for any of the reasons this poster feels.
Also, Epic Mickey looks uber fucking cool.
Fucking Funcoland. Reserved FFVII there and they didn't have enough copies to fill the reservations. Literally went like 5 miles to the mall where there was an EB and picked one up there. They had plenty of extras. Ironically I think both chains became Gamestop together.
Seriously, that's just a weird name.

It'll probably be cooler than the final title though, things always are (Dolphin, Revolution, Katana).
