So today i went into gamestop to trade in arkham asylum before it is worth about $5... and to see if i can get further towards Modern Warfare 2 which i want but cant afford (being married costs money!)

so gamestop is having one of their sales where they take basically any game for the ps3/wii/360 and the more you trade the more you get, topping off at an extra 40% for 6 games or more.

seeing as i had $57 worth of trade, adding an edge card would help me on the used title, and it would get me a year of game informer.

i remembered that magazine. the halfway decent one where if you can get over the fact that it pushes whatever gamestop wants to sell you there are some good articles.

but things are different now.
first of all, have you seen this months cover feature?
its for a wii game.

its for "epic mickey" which is some title that is a "darker side of mickey mouse"
really?

so other than that its the same, right? well, no not really. i guess they want to compete with real competent gaming websites, so now there are some articles about movie games, something about keeping the storyline of a game straight... and some other sort of crap.

they even took out the classic game informer feature at the end of the magazine...

if it werent FREE with the edge card, i would never buy this thing.
the last version was more for gamers. this version is for... f*cking everyone. like a wii.
which i do not own.
and there is a reason for that.
i dont get it.
not at all.

Yes, really, and if you took a moment to look at what it was you might understand why some people are excited. Unless you just want the cover to be Madden 2049, bro.

I guess Game Informer's no longer a hardcore magazine, huh?

My complaint is their new redesign made half the features in the magazine unreadable or indistinguishable from other articles or ads. Poor design I say

I have a love hate relationship with that first issue. It was a shitload larger and more polished than the Fun Club News issues, but the cover-art was an incredibly craptastic rendering of Mario made out of clay.

A 6 year old me was convinced that I could have done a better cover shot using a polaroid camera and some play-doh from my kindergarten class.

    "GI-Jeremy wrote:

Lisa and I both knew that our Paper Mario scores were going to cause controversy. Yes, we know that many people out there will love it. We also know that it is a well-made game. However, it also WILL NOT appeal to many people - I would safely say that more people will dislike it than like it. Why? Like we said in the review, it's a very kiddie game - it's target audience is clearly young gamers - I would say 10 and under. For that reason, we had to score it low. Remember, we aren't scoring games strictly on our personal opinions, we're also scoring them based on how much we think THE GAMING PUBLIC will like them. We've all played games that we personally disliked and scored them well because we've known that most people will like them, and we've also scored games low that we love, because most people won't enjoy them.

For example, I really like the bizarre frog golf game Ribbit King, and I gave it a 7, because it's just not for everyone. Paper Mario 2 also scored low because it's just not for everyone. If you think it's a 10 in your book, it's a ten in your book, and that doesn't change if we disagree. We're here to guide you on what games to pick up, but ultimately your personal opinion is what will make you buy a game or not.

    I hope this helps."

Fucking Funcoland. Reserved FFVII there and they didn't have enough copies to fill the reservations. Literally went like 5 miles to the mall where there was an EB and picked one up there. They had plenty of extras. Ironically I think both chains became Gamestop together.
