Waiting for the reviews on this, Rogue Warrior did not look like a good game at all (aside from the plentiful amounts of cursing, which was more hilarious than an indication of a good game). I mean, it could turn out great, but it could also turn out awful.
Yeah, their recent track record isn't impressive, and that means I'm going to wait for some reviews and opinions before I place my order. However, everything I've seen and read is mouth watering and I'm definitely holding on to the rest of this gift card with this game in mind.
I believe they actually talked about those past games and why we should expect Aliens vs. Predator to be so much better. It sounded like those past projects were stressful, there were situations and circumstances the development team did not want, and the impression I got was that they weren't projects the team really didn't want to work on in the first place. Aliens vs. Predator, on the other hand, has been the complete opposite.

Is this going to have a single-player campaign? If so, is it going to be for all three races like the previous games?
Yes and yes.
I'm definitely picking this up for multiplayer, though. It looks amazing, and will be a good change from all the modern shooters. Survival mode is already looking like it may be my favorite. Three friends and me pitted against unending waves of xenomorphs in eerily dark environments? Oh God yes please.

In Rebellion's defense (if I'm remembering this correctly), Rogue Warrior was passed off on them from another team that the publisher took it away from because it was not going anywhere. I think they had for an extremely short time, 3 or 4 months, and then they shoved it out the door.
The sad thing is that many publishers still don't understand the intrinsic value of brand recognition. Sure you may recoup some of your development capital by pushing out a half finished crappy game, but your paying for it by scaring people away from future games by that studio.
I think the reason while Valve and Blizzard are so successful is that 1) they release good stuff and 2) they have a track record of releasing good stuff and consumers buy their games without reservation.
Look, you people really shouldn't need to wait for reviews on this game. Of course it looks mouthwateringly awesome, because it will be. Sure their track record is low, with every game that's not AVP 'cause it would take an act of Satan to fuck up an AvP game.
I would pre-order it right now, but it's a Barnes & Noble gift card and have you ever tried dealing with that customer service mess? They use Gamestop, so you have to call them and of course they NEVER send the cancellation request to Barnes & Noble. Then you have to go through over a month of back and forth to get anything done because Gamestop fails to send the cancellation request another three or four fucking times. Barnes & Noble finally gets the request and cancels your order, but somehow only refunds you 2/3rds of the amount! So then you have to call them up and demand to know what the fuck happened! Then they say it'll take another three to five business days before that's sorted out!
So no, man! I'm not going to pre-order just yet! I'm going to wait to be absolutely fucking certain!
(This is the second time I've gone through this. The gift card not being refunded back the full amount is new this time. I really need to figure out just what the fuck I want to order before I order it so I don't change my God damned mind.)

Hey man not my fault you use B&N gift card for a video game.
Go read a book.
It was a Christmas gift. And why buy books when I can dull my mind with them teletube entertainment thingamajigs? Lots of games this first quarter and not enough money, but thank goodness for gift cards.
It works well if you place an order you actually want. If you want to change something, though, Gamestop actively sabotages the whole process it seems. They'll cancel it in their system, but they repeatedly fail to send the request to Barnes & Noble. The B&N people are actually quite pleasant to deal with, on the other hand.

You linked to a Survivor mode hands-on article? I was expecting something about DLC. Are you referring to the map pack? Someone here previously mentioned that it's free for all new copies or something.
In any case, that article basically convinced me to buy the game immediately. I was pretty pumped seeing the video feature for the mode, but reading impressions of it has essentially sealed the deal. Now hopefully I'll get all my money refunded back soon and I can order this and Bad Company 2.

Oh see I've kept on a voluntary video/impressions blackout so I just read a footnote somebody made saying that the maps were pay DLC. If it's free then sweet no biggie. Can't reach IGN at work anyways so guess I'll have to wait and see.
Anybody playing the AVP 2000 classic? Looks like it belongs on a iPhone, lol. Still, I can't wait for them to add multiplayer. Playing on Gamespy's Mplayer with a 56k modem sucked 10 years ago.

Reviews aint worth shit. Go pre-order.
What exactly is the benefit to pre-ordering this game? They haven't dropped the price at all from I've seen.
pretty bogus that theyre only shipping with two survivor maps, and the other two are release day DLC. i mean thats half the damn maps, cmon now.
Oh, they're the survivor maps? I'm fine with that, since survival modes always get old fast and 360 people just play them for the achievements anyways.

Well with Steam I know you get 3 "unique" skins for pre-ordering (being a PC game I'm sure they won't be unique for long).
I pre-ordered, but it wasn't because of any of the "bonuses" I just have hopes based on the past AvP games that this one will be good.
I hope we get a survival horror Alien game at some point. Like you have to make your way through a randomly generated ship while being stalked by one alien. With no fancy schmancy guns or armor.
It just doesn't really give us any new info at all
The marines have guns! And as long as they're aware of their surroundings, they may survive!
The predator relies on stealth! If he doesn't have his cloak, he's vulnerable!
The alien has to get in close because he has no technology! Also he crawls through vents!
Yes, that is what an AvP game is, thank you website
*shrug*
You're right, the preview article does confirm, yup it's an AvP game.
Keep in mind however the preview is on a console specific website ... there are a ton of console loyalists that never played the original on the PC. AvP is going to be abit of a new entity in console land, lots of people either didn't play the original due to their age or not having a PC.
So "obvious" things to you, may not be obvious to people new to the series.
Alright, pre-order placed for the Xbox 360 version. Come February I better be shooting some aliens with the rest of you. I'm really looking forward to that Survivor mode.
Edit: I'm watching the first ten minutes of the marine campaign and... wow. This is... wow! Very atmospheric!

Has there been any mention of playing a facehugger in multiplayer. My favorite thing in avp2 was the life cycle.
Meeeee tooooooo
I didn't even mind how lopsided the gameplay was, it was fucking amazing hiding behind a corner and pouncing when a marine with a mic came around it
OHMIGODAAAHHHHHHHHHHHRgGFGA
I remember the was this one server that only used that one map with the apc and the hive. It was set up so that there was a queen deep in the hive that the marines had to kill and the facehuggers couldn't leave the hive. So that made for some epic ambushes. 4 marines walk under a small bridge and a whole team of facehuggers go on a face raping spree.

HOWEVER, I will say that my heart aches now that we've reached almost mandatory release day pay DLC.

If the pictures of the new game weren't up there, I might confuse it with a preview of the older games
There's really nothing new in this game that I can tell just by reading this preview, other than a graphical enhancement
Not that that's a bad thing
Well, Rebellion has said they are taking all of the good things from AVP, making them better and adding more stuff. Which is groovy.
