Fun times. My brother was arrested for DUI and then placed on an ICE hold pending deportation after his sentencing for his DUI. He's in jail until it all goes through.
The jail has a thing where you can put money into an inmate's account so he can buy his own clothes and toiletries and whatnot. I'm not sure how legal this is. He had money on him (20 bucks) when he got arrested. That was automatically placed into said account and used.
my mom put money into his account so he can buy things while in jail. However this was lost. Twice. After calling them about it and hounding them for several days, they put the money in there. However they did this too late for him to use it. I am told he has no toiletries, clean clothes, reading materials, etc for another week (two weeks total, he's been using them for a week already).
I'm having a hard time finding out what rights he has in jail. I can find generic rights easily enough but my mother's going crazy because she's claiming the administration is saying he doesn't get some rights because he's on the ICE hold instead of genpop jail.
He's also not exercising. He gets yard time but apparently he's afraid to go out there. I think this is more of a nonissue. It's his first time in jail, he thinks everyone is a murderer.
just trying to make sure that he's getting everything he's supposed to get. I'm pretty sure my mom isn't giving me the whole story, I'll see him tomorrow so I'll see what's going on myself.
this is Pinellas County, Florida

The jail lost the money?
Here's the deal, they COs don't really give a shit about the inmates. It took them 8 hours to release me after bond had been posted (never mind the fucking 9+ hours in booking). I was unable to make a phone call because of their shit ass system and the only way anyone was able to get in touch with me was with my mom calling over a dozen times demanding to speak with me. No one in there cares about you, its really depressing. The only thing you can do is continue to bug he shit out of the COs until they fix your problem. Oh, and there isn't a library or anything to read in jail. It's a really fucking boring place.
I'm pretty sure he gets clean clothes on a somewhat regular basis and they must provide basic toiletries. Like I said, I was only in there for a night, but I still got the whole "welcome to jail" kit. The only thing anyone asked for when they heard I made bail was my envelope (which has postage already paid).
edit: Polk county is a terrible, terrible place
we also talk about other random shit and clown upon each other
