The question I want answered is can I still head shot fools behind walls with my engineer drill. Loved busting through walls like the Kool-aid man and kill a guy with my drill. First time that ever happened in Bad Company when I was "Breaching" the control point and I drilled the guy behind it by accident I fell in love with this method of attack. Who needs Knives I got Black and Decker!
After playing the beta I still have no idea how people play these kind of games on a console. Even gamepad aside the incredible lack of options versus a similiar PC game makes the console version incredibly irratating. No choice in servers, no idea what your ping is, can't see what other squads are on the field, limited comms, and other little annoyances.
As much as I like the game, if it only came out on the consoles I wouldn't buy it for those reasons.
But if you don't have a comp to run it, or you hate to have to tweak anything, then I guess you go with the console version.
Whoa, what? Limited comms are back for Bad Company 2? That was one of my biggest complaints about the first game. You could only communicate with your squad (you couldn't choose your squad, either) and not the entire team. That was something the community was pretty vocal about, if I remember correctly. The developers even had a post about "looking into it".
That may very well push me over to the PC side this time around, although I'm still worried how my computer will handle this, plus couch and big screen gaming versus my shitty chair and small monitor is a consideration, too.

I am mostly tempted to get this for pc as then if comms are an issue, its quite easy to run skype or vent or w/e. Also your computer, plug it in to your television, bluetooth mouse and keys.

My TV has an overscan issue I can't seem to correct when I plug my computer into it, so that's a no go. But as far as my decision on which platform to get it on, after playing Bad Company again today I'm definitely leaning toward PC. The lack of team chat was still annoying, but it was the general controls that pushed me over the edge. After playing so much Modern Warfare 2, where the controls feel more comfortable and fluid, Bad Company in comparison feels like everything is moving through molasses and that I could use a few extra fingers.
I just really hope I can run it well on PC, or I can find a job soon so I can order a bitchin' new computer.
Edit: There, I bought it with a BN gift card. You guys better get it for PC, too, because I can't easily cancel this order if I change my mind! 32 player matches over 24 players! And we can have full team chat over squad chat only! Do it!

It's one of those things that makes sense until it's implemented. Sure - only being able to speak to your squad makes sense in trying to improve squad teamwork. But overall team coordination is lost in the process. I mean, in something like MAG, it's a godsend. You don't have 127 mics potentially blaring shitty music at you, but Battlefield is significantly smaller scale than that.
Some of us were playing Battlefield 2 last night. I think we were close to filling a 6 man squad before I had to bail. Maybe it will happen again soon.
If you haven't installed it or played recently, there are some things to keep in mind:
The booster packs (Armored Fury and Euro Force) are now included with 1.5 for free. Special Forces expansion is not free or included. Install SF before patching to 1.41 and 1.5. They also added widescreen support. It does not apply to the HUD or GUI, so don't be alarmed if your minimap is oval.
If you are installing from disc, you need patch
1.41 and then patch 1.5. They are big, so get them in advance. Steam should include the patches, but you will likely still need to do the next step.
Download and run
PBSetup and get your PunkBuster client up to date for BF2.
If you are using UAC, then you need to run the BF2 executable with Admin rights. If you installed from disc, find the bf2.exe, right-click and choose properties. On the Compatibility tab, check the last box for Admin Privileges. If you have Special Forces or other mods installed, find those exe's and do the same. If you installed from Steam, I think you have to grant Steam Admin privileges. I can't be sure because I don't have that version.
Get
Ventrilo and join PA Forums' vent server. This also needs to be run with Admin rights, or you will lose the ability to transmit when playing BF2.
Test to make sure you can stay in a server for about 5 minutes without being kicked by Punkbuster. If you get kicked, troubleshoot from there. Personally, I can't run the disc version through Steam as a third party app or I get kicked by PB.
A few with the Steam version were not able to see the ground, sort of like wallhacks from the old CS days. If this happens, try disabling AntiAliasing and restart the game.
If you hate the intro movies as much as I do, then browse into the BF2 directory/mods/*/movies folder. Rename the *.bik files to *.bak or something. You can leave the menu videos if you want, but I prefer to kill them all. There's a movies folder for each mod, including bf2 and xpack (which is SF, if you have it installed.)
If BC2 handles like 1943, it will be my favorite game ever. The one thing that worries me is that I heard destroying a building with a gold crate inside will also destroy the crate, which sounds super cheap.

They also said important buildings can be set so you can't completely collapse them. Hopefully this was unintended and they fix it.
That explosion is the C4, and the guy waited for the enemies to go in to disarm the charge before he blew the C4. The actual charge went off a few seconds later which completely destroyed the structure.

Yeah this has been happening to me and I have the box version. Is that why it is happening? Sometimes I would monkey around with the settings or restart the game and it would miraculously fix itself. Could never figure out what was making it happen or unhappen. Do you just turn off AA, restart, and then turn AA back on and it should be okay?

Okay, some stuff of the blog:
-PC beta from January 28 to February 25
-32 players, one map (Port Valdez, a snowy map that is "vehicle focused") and one game mode (Rush)
-Beta may be available on Steam
-Beta keys available for those who pre-order the game, and some will be available through "alternate channels"
Some other, non beta stuff
-no mod tools (fuuuuuuuuuck)
-no public server files (fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck)
I'm still not quite sure which version to pre-order, but now I'm leaning back toward the Xbox 360. My CPU and GPU are starting to lag behind (I don't meet the recommended requirements) and I can't upgrade them at the moment. There will probably be much more players on consoles, anyway. The 360 version is on the best seller tab on Gamestop's front page.
We should get a list going. Who is getting it for what?

I guess just go with which controller you like best since (I believe) the first Bad Company was pretty much the same on both consoles. However, I imagine that most here will be picking up the 360 version so if you go that way you might have more people to play with
I'll probably be getting the PC version since I am average at best with dual analog, but cna be pretty damn good with kb+mouse. Not to mention I can hook my computer up to my 50" tv and play it that way if I really want to lounge on the couch and play.

I'm pretty sure my choice comes down to how optimized the PC version is. I guess I'll find out soon
The only thing they promised was "dedicated servers".
And of course, this means PC users get only that. No mod tools, no unranked or LAN dedicated servers. Makes their boasting about MW2 seem pretty fucking smarmy.
edit: No wait, we also got one very blurry picture! Thanks DICE!

The blurry picture is pretty clearly 3D. And isn't this how they did servers for BF2? You had to rent them from authorized server companies, then a few months latter they had the ability to use unranked servers which no one actually used

Yes, its the same exact server model they used for BF2 and 2142. BF2 supported mods later on, but they were never officially supported with 2142, so this "no mods" stance really isn't unexpected at all. It sucks for mod communities like Project Reality and such, but in all honesty multiplayer game modding is a dying art. The market is over-saturated with good titles, and the player base is too fragmented between the platforms to warrant companies investing significant time on SDKs and Development tools.
As long as the game is optimized for the PC, and gives me that "Battlefield" feeling I crave, I'm in 8-)
I just received a gift card for Christmas, and I don't know what to spend it on. I'm definitely thinking this game, the limited edition, but the question is PC or 360? I played the first one on the 360, I still have the PA Battlefield profile, but it sounds like a number of us here are now interested in picking it up on the computer. So which version are you all planning to purchase?
I am worried about my system specs a little, though. I have a C2D E6600, 4GB DDR2 memory, and the 8800 GTX. DICE recommends this, however:
You should be fine, the E6600 and 8800gtx are still pretty sweet. If not, you can get another 8800gtx used on a forum for like $70ish (if you have an sli motherboard) and have performance similar to a GTX280 (other than the quadcore, which may effect frames during buildings falling and such).

I'm typically Medic or Engineer, but this place seems to have no short supply of either. Maybe I'll go with Recon for a change of pace.
I decided to read through the class lists again, and I noticed that Assault can get a Shotgun/underslung as well as ammo packs, which appeals to me, so I might give that a go as well.
If BC2 handles like 1943, it will be my favorite game ever. The one thing that worries me is that I heard destroying a building with a gold crate inside will also destroy the crate, which sounds super cheap.
Yeah, watching one of the dev walkthroughs it appears that you can take a crate, if you're an attacker, in one of three ways. Put the charge on the crate, damage the crate with your weapons, or drop the building onto the crate.
So, I'd be surprised if they don't have that be part of the gameplay. So, as a defender, I guess you need to not let the attackers put too many holes into the buildings holding the crates.
