A question on car tires, trading in snow tires specifically

I need snow tires, and I've got snow tires that were on my Kia Rio (now gone). I now have a Kia Spectra.

The tires that were on my Rio are size P175 70R13. The tires that are currently on my Spectra are size 195 60R15. Can I use my Rio tires (the P175 70R13s) on my Spectra? Will a shop take them off the Rio rims - btw, I already checked and the Rio rims don't fit on my Spectra - and put them on some Spectra rims?

No they will not fit. the hole in the Rio's tires is 13" across and the ones on the Spectra are 15" across.

OK, that's a bit disappointing. Here is my secondary question:

What would be the best manner in which to convert (and by convert I mean trade in/sell the Rio tires) these snow tires for the Rio into snow tires for the Spectra? Do places like Costco or Firestone take trade ins? I've tried to sell a few things on CL, but I never get a response.

You're going to end up buying new tires.

No place will take your old tires and 'trade them in'. Used tires are used tires, and aren't exactly a valuable commodity.

If the tires aren't that old and still have a substantial amount of tread left, you may be able to sell them on craigslist.

Closest thing you may be able to do is find a place that re-treads tires, but even then you probably wont get jack squat for them at a business.

I have no idea how much snow tires cost so I don't know if it's worth it but you may be able to get a set of cheapo 15" wheels that fit your new car and have the snow tires mounted on them. This way you'll be able to change the tires yourself between seasons.

That's what I plan to do. Discount tires appears to have rims for $51 apiece and snow tires for $83 apiece, and a $14 mounting fee. The price they quoted was $356.70, and then I have to put the fucking things on the car myself. Ugh.

If you're planning on putting on a separate set of rims each season, make sure you buy a torque wrench for the lug nuts. If you warp your rotors you won't save yourself any money over having a shop mount them.
