So I am actually taking the time at try to level in GW as fast as i can (because we all know PvE in GW is shit) and it just occurred to me...what do you get out of PvPing at 20? anything? Besiades respect if you are a good team? God willing if your good enough to go into any of the major tournys and win money. But is that it?
I thought the point of Guild Wars was the PvE. I've particularly liked how Nightfall ties into the Prophecies lore well, and the storyline isn't half bad either.
I mean, I never played Factions. But I do know you get to bop Abbadon one.
When PvPing, you gain Faction for killing opponents and for winning rounds. Faction is used for unlocking skills and items. The faction you gain for winning depends on what type of PvP you're doing (Heroes' Ascent gives more than the arenas, GvG gives the most). In GvG, when you win, your guild's ladder standing increases, so you're matched against tougher opponents. If your standing is high enough at the end of the season, you go to the play offs, which eventually leads to the world tournament.
Beyond that, you play for fun. Guild Wars PvP is probably the best I've found in an RPG. You play for the same reason you play Starcraft, or Counterstrike- it's fun to do.
I'm not sure why you're playing the PvE though. You can start a level 20 PvP character right from the beginning. I assume then that you mean you're going for skill unlocks, in which case you probably would have been better served buying a PvP Edition of the game.
Also, if you're playing/own Factions then you can do PvP in the Kurzick/Luxon specific areas to get their faction in addition to the normal Balthazar faction for general PvP. That kind can be turned in for amber or jadeite, depending on which side you fight for. Useful if you're trying to get that faction's armor for your PvE character, or if you want to sell the stuff off to make some cash.
Daily Automated Tournaments
This is the first big change coming up, most likely in late January. Instead of having to spend hours playing lots of matches to climb the GvG ladder, it will all come down to how your guild does in actual tournament play.
Automated tournaments mean we will be able to schedule and run hundreds, if not thousands, of tournaments at all levels every year. Each of these tournaments will provide participants the opportunity for fame and glory, in-game prizes, and opportunities to participate in global championships.
We will schedule automated tournaments to run two or three times a day starting at beneficial times for players in all times zones. In addition, these tournaments will be able to handle any number of participants, automatically determine match start times (and countdown times until the next round), announce pairings, and report results of each event for publication on our web site.
Free play GvG matches will still exist in their current form BUT the ELO rating on them will be greatly reduced. Guilds can enter free play matches for fun and practice, but for all real purposes, these matches will have little effect on each guild's overall ladder rating or ranking.
One important change you should all be aware of is that you will HAVE to be a member of a guild for 30 days before your account will be allowed to enter an automated tournament for that guild. Just as we required long term membership in a guild for our previous tournaments, it will again be required for the automated tournaments. This means that guests will NOT be allowed for tournament play (thus, the end of smurf and tank guilds)! I recommend creating or joining the guild you want to compete in NOW so you will be eligible for the first automated tournaments when they start in early 2007.
Tournament Ladder to Reset One Last Time
Yes, you read that correct. At the start of 2007, we will reset the tournament ladder, for the very last time. As previously discussed, the main purpose of the ladder and the ELO system was to provide mathematical strength measurements of competitors and their history.
While the ladder will still be around, and players can view the competitive history of each guild, the focus will shift to how well guilds do in individual tournaments as opposed to grinding the ladder.
1v1 Tournament Ladder and Championship Series
This is probably the biggest expansion of all. Given the introduction of Hero Battles with the release of Guild Wars Nightfall, it only makes sense for us to offer this as an additional format for competitive play.
Starting in early 2007, alongside the 2007 Guild Wars GvG World Championship series, we will run a similar series for 1v1 Hero Battles (1 player and 3 Heroes vs. 1 player and 3 Heroes).
This new format will get the same support that GvG has, including its own tournament ladder, automated tournaments, and a world championship event.
And with the advent of this system, we will also track individual account statistics! This means we will be able to call out individual accomplishments as well as accomplishments of competitive guilds.
Details! We want the details!
Those will be coming soon. The rules and prize structure for the 2007 Guild Wars World Championship series (for GvG and 1v1) will be coming out in the next few weeks.
Our programming team and designers are working hard on these competitive system updates and, as they get completed, we will let you know the specifics.
While they are doing that, we will also be working on all sorts of additional competitive play support such as expanding and improving the Xunlai Tournament House, and looking at additional ways of tracking and presenting information for players and fans alike.
The history of competitive Guild Wars has been exciting. Now we look forward to a future that will take the excitement we have all built together and ratchet it up several more notches.

You may as well make a PvP character, rather than use your PvE character to PvP. It's not like it's any faster to acquire skills through PvE, anymore.
Also, the PA guild was rockin' the Hall of Heroes about 30 minutes ago:
HoH is only 6 people now (including your two heroes), since when? Or were you guys just feeling too good to accept two additional players?
6v6 for a few months now, the 2 hero limit is new though.
Anyway is there alot of active people in guild?
In another guild now but only a few arent completely braindead.
We aren't that active still. We haven't had nearly enough people on to GvG in a while, but you can often find one or two people to do something with.
Not sure what the fate of the guild will be but we're trying to find a good alliance to join.
That'd be nice. What about the guild that is still in our alliance? IDS or whatever they're called. I never hear shit about or from them.
Also, if any of you guys are online and you see me just let me know and I'd be more than willing to do some PvP of some sort with ya. You may have to coach me but it's all good.
Man, I need to try out some PVP. But I don't have many of the pvp-popular skill unlocks, which makes it hard when asked to bring a specific build. Like last night, when I would've joined but Soul Engy needed a Rampage as One thumper... from what I know of that build, it's got a few skills I don't have unlocked yet.
I can do an SF ele, though! Go me! :P
Also, to the OP: GW PVE is quite good, dunno where you heard otherwise. It's at least as good as standalone single-player RPGs. But that's for another thread.

Hey Harsh, how often do you play? Like, around what times? Because I see you on every once in awhile and I'd like to get together with you some more and do some PvE and some PvP. I usually work from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central with weekends off, but any other time you might find me online. I don't really have a set time because some days I don't play but if you, or anyone else for that matter, want to get something set up let me know.

More of an action RPG
As for skills and unlocks it's a good idea to do RA and always have 7-10k of faction saved up just so you can unlock a skill bar as and when necessary.
Of course, a lot of that is an inherent problem of being in a small guild, it kinda forces you to be a jack of all trades when necessary. Rather than letting you focus on one or two characters and bringing them out as and when they're needed.

My schedule varies, but generally weekday late nights Eastern plus afternoon/evenings weekends.
As soon as I get some nice pics of the [PA] cape for posterity and make sure my alt account has its leadership, I'm going to start bugging KCHS officers for an invite.

Yeah, I've heard that, and also heard about running the Zaishen challenge once a day or so to build up easy faction.

wow, i cant believe you guys are still alive
wow, i cant believe you guys are playing that crap
The first free weekend before release was the best. There were sooooo many of us in vent laughing. Good times.
Then release came and it wasn't as good.
Release was awesome. There were tons of people in KCHS. We had so many people we had to open an extra guild. And then we started rocking Halls of Heroes every night and it was still awesome. Some of the best times were after release.
We were all shit at the time, granted, but I miss skill charms. I miss skill trading. I miss the ninth skill slot. I miss not having to unlock anything. I miss the days when the PvE campaign was a fun little diversion rather than the meat of the game. I anticipate the day when whoever decided to remove all the above gets his stupid fucking face ripped off. What a cunt.

Mumbly (Guild leader at the time) accidentally demoted himself.
Hilarity ensued.
And there's no prompt.
And I'm retarded.

Then again thats not that hard to do these days.
Also the other guild in our alliance IDS is inactive and has been for like 4 months or something...
