In New Zealand, bear and beer are homophones, which I find delightful.

I love people who say orange "ah-range."
    Also, "yooman" for human,
    "mah-ral" for moral,
    and "wooder" for water.

It is a mahral imperative to provide clean wooder for every yooman.

    I have New York/Jersey envy.

I believe meh-lay or may-lay are the closer to 'real' ways to say that word, but yeah it's really one of those where we just bastardize it anyway so who cares.

Mee-lee is just wrong. Shame on you.

i had a roommate who insisted on saying it "mee lee". it made me want to punch him in the face every time he said it.

...which i guess is a form of melee. huh.

A friend of mine would say skim-i-tar, min-i-nar, and tel-i-lort during D&D sessions. The last one was mostly him goofing around, but the first two he really thought they were pronounced that way.

    Damn you all!

how far into that game are you anyways?

I've never played it and only know about any of it from your LP, so i have no clue how long it is

I'm in the mid game; past the difficult intro period and expanding from a stable base, but not yet with the advanced alien research to enter the end game stretch.

    Greatest game of all time.

That Earthling cruiser is probably fucked if the Spaathi player is halfway decent.

    Certainly at that range.

Fishman; make a thread like you did with X-Com with Star Control 2. You don't have to include anyone because we all know the flagship is the only one that ends up in battle after the first month of gametime passes, but you should write captain's logs for the entire journey.

And then I should read them and that will get me through the days.

Don't tempt me. It's possible I love Star Control 2 more than UFO, if that's possible.

Plus I have the source code sitting right here on my machine. I could edit the captains name lists to generate random forumers as captains...

    OH GOD YES DO THIS

I WOULD HAVE SO MUCH SEX WITH YOU

Fishman, where did you get the source, and can you actually compile and run it?

Toys for Bob released the 3DO SC2 source a few years back.

The Ur-Quan Masters project is the sourceforge project to update the source to modern systems. They've got working executables updating the code to current machines and all the source.

I've got a working install and a copy of the source from a couple years back, but I haven't got the latest version or actually ever tried compiling and running the source on my own machine. I've never really had reason to muck about in the code myself, as I never really wanted to do anything to it before.

"Wooder" is one of those identifying "you are from South Philadelphia" things in my mind. Also, John McCain says Warshington. So now maybe it's popular? I mean, because he is a trendsetter while still remaining a maverick. Yes.
