a couple of hours ago, my phone screen went blank save for the little silver apple icon you normally see when booting up.

strange I thought.. hit the home button, nothing.

Tried rebooting... alot. Nothing.

Tried plugging it in. Nothing.

Tried poping out the sim card then poping it back in. Nothing.

I've tried everything I can think of save restoring it, which I can't do till I get home from work.

So any ideas in the mean time? Right now that stupid silver apple is mocking me. telling me I'm stupid and that's why nobody will ever love me.

    Did you jailbreak it?

Best guess at the moment if you can't restore it is to let it die and hope when you charge it back up it works.

Let it die and see if the same thing is happening once it loses power and you power it back on. If so, it's a long shot, but hold power+home button and if it'll reset, as soon as it does, let go of the power button but keep hitting home. That should put it in recovery mode, where, if it is jailbroken and corrupted beyond belief, you'll be able to restore it.

    If not, 1-800-APL-CARE !

If you hook it up to your PC, you should have a "restore / backup" option. Try that. Contact customer support if that fails.

*edit* Yes I know you want something to do before then, but this is pretty much your best option. There's not much else you can do in the meantime.

Bring it to the Apple Store.

I live in canada, the closest apple store is in Toronto :( 8 hour plane ride away /sadness

however, I'm home now and the restore seems to be working!

    Thanks for all the help

(btw, yes it was jailbroken, wonder if that's why it stopped working)

There no apple stores in BC? (assuming you're where your location says you are)

I know there's one in Alberta (Edmonton, to be specific), I was there a few weeks ago.

    But yay for working phone!

There is an Apple Store in Vancouver, but that is icky ferry ride away (which often seems longer than an 8 hour flight!)

One could always hop onto a seaplane headed downtown.

Sounds like your restore is working anyway though, so hooray for a moot point
