Yo momma so fat she needs a computer

Well... MY mom and dad need a computer for basic stuff. I dad needs it to get online and print out his patient list and my mom needs it to for e-mails and documents. Oh, it has to be pre-built cause they need it like tomorrow cause the old PC is a piece of junk.

Here is what I made up from Dell and tell me if it's good for them.

PROCESSOR - AMD Athlonâ„¢ 64 3200+

OPERATING SYSTEM - Genuine Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

UPGRADE TO WINDOWS VISTA - Express Upgrade to Windows Vista Home Premium from XP Media Center Edition (only $10)

MEMORY - 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz- 2DIMMs

HARD DRIVE - 80GB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cacheâ„¢

OPTICAL DRIVE - 16X DVD-ROM Drive (imma put in DVD burner in myself)

MONITOR - 15 inch E156FP Analog Flat Panel

VIDEO CARD - NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE Integrated Graphics GPU (ewww, but they won't be gaming)

SOUND Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio

$584

That sounds good for that price? I was trying to cut out all the gutter trash they don't need ($150 for something that tells you how to plug the PC together... what!?). You think there's any other PC companies out there than can pretty much match this PC for less?

The price is low and they sound like they need a pretty basic machine. You could probably even cut the RAM to 512mb to help with cost even more since they don't sound like they'll do much with the machine.

I'd only do this if you're gonna be around to babysit it to make sure they don't load it up with spyware/other shit they don't need. The extra ram will help keep the bitching down.

    That what I was thinking

EDIT - funny, cause that's why I added the extra memory cause you know it will be full of bullshit soon. She says she NEEDS to use IE 7, actually she said, "I need it to have Windows XP 7" and there was a pause of me trying to figure out what the hell she was talking about. The site my dad needs to go to to get his patients list only allows IE access (I hate sites like this). As long as the use IE only for that, they should be fine I guess. The old PC never had spyware, but with a new computer they might get adventurous.

Oh hell no. You don't want to run Vista with only 512MB of RAM.

Oh about that, I'm surprised they are just giving this shit away basically. The $10 is for the shipping.

Looks like momma gonna have to let me hold that CD

Seems like a good deal mang, and suitable for what use they'll get out of it. I know every forumer will come in here and suggest something else (or mutter about how cheaper it would be to put it together yourself), but I think you've already made a near-perfect choice.

I'd be worried about HD space, maybe go with 100 or 120gigs just to be safe. Also, show them what and what not to click on, because older people usually can't tell if it is a windows popup suggesting to download this cool free and powerfull antivirius program or if it is just a spam pop up.

Also install AVG, Windows Defender and Spybot - Search & Destroy as soon as you get the machine. You probably know this, but it's still better to be prepared than not.
