Smalles x86 computer?

I have some software that I wrote; it's java. I also have a USB Bar code scanner. I'm looking for a small x86 computer. A netbook works great, something smaller would be more ideal.

WinXP is preferred, but can also get it working on linux. Don't think the drivers work under MacOS.

Requirements would be: x86 (any platform actually would work that could run java and has bar code scanner drivers).
Hardware: USB port
Network: needs "mobile"/cell internet (AT&T, Verzion, etc).. Normal wireless won't work since we can't guarantee wifi will be available in all locations.

So far we've tested netbooks and tablets, both work well; something smaller and more compact would be better though.

you should look at single board computers... these are typically used for embedded systems (which seems to be what you're building)... smallest that will run win xp that i've seen is about 4"x3"

    something like this:

I've seen those. Do they have any "pre-built" ones? Looks like a fun hobby, but imagine it'd take a bit of time to get one cased up and fully working.
