I've got an older mac I want to donate, but I want to wipe out all user info first. I know I can always pop in the Tiger disc and wipe the drive and reinstall, but I don't want to wait for reinstalling updates and apps and such, and I'd like to donate this as close to usable as possible. I'll keep searching the web, but in the meantime, any ideas?
I eventually found some super complicated instructions that involved hooking the drive up to another mac (which I don't have) and running some commands from the terminal. I guess I could boot into single user mode, mount the drive and run them, but I'll just save some time and wipe the disk and reinstall and just shut it off before the initial boot so that who ever gets it, gets the welcome spiel.
Most of the organizations that accept used computers will do their own format and software install anyway, so just give it a good thorough format for peace of mind and kick it to the curb.
