The Official "Infinite Space" thread - Arm torpedoes......FIRE!
Brainiac 8Don't call me Shirley...Registered Userregular
Infinite Space is the new upcoming DS Space Opera/Spaceship building sim by Sega/Platinum games, creators of Madworld and Bayonetta.
Infinite Space is a science fiction role-playing video game that allows the player to design and control a spaceship. The player can customize the ship with over 150 different design models, along with over 150 possible crewmembers. After designing a ship, the player can explore an expansive game world with a story spanning two galaxies. Characters seen in the game will be displayed in 2D, while ships, exploration, and battles will all be in 3D.
The player navigates the ship using the Nintendo DS touchscreen by first choosing a destination, then engaging the engines to move towards that destination. Spaceship battles occur in real-time, with attacks utilizing a "command gauge" feature. As the command gauge builds up, the player can use it to perform attacks against an enemy ship. The rate at which the command gauge fills depends on the crew of the ship, so a more skilled crew will increase the capabilities of a ship. When the player boards an enemy ship, the player takes control of their character to fight through the ship.
In the game, multiplayer is available for two-player spaceship battles over local Wi-Fi.
Infinite Space was stated to be based on the novel Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke. The plot is divided into two main storylines: One follows the life of a young crewman named Yuri who works to become a spaceship captain, and the other focuses on "very high-level, philosophical science fiction stuff." Through the course of the story, the player will discover humanity's role in the universe.
Huge RPG, epic Space Opera story, Spaceship building with the same deep detail that you usually find in an Armored Core or Gran Turismo, hire your crew, space battles, WIFI space battles, ship take overs....there is too much awesome to not care about this game! :x
Holy crap, it has real-time space battles? I was already excited over the early footage of this game, but this just moved to instabuy as long as it doesn't get trashed in reviews for controls.

You guys keep saying DSi. Are you saying the DSlite isn't compatible?
Also-
Any idea how 'big' the boarding battles are? Are the ship interiors potentially like an rpg dungeon level? Will there be space hulks floating in the void that will serve the same purpose? How free roaming will it be? Can I just blast off into space and happen upon crap, or will play be more linear?
The premise is just ripe with unanswered possibilities.

A couple of months back Nintendo Power had a really good article on the game and an interview with one of the guys at Nude Maker.
I wish I still had the magazine to transcribe the info, but one thing it said was that you could collect blueprints for new ship classes and types, and you can improvise on the blueprints if you want to use specialized parts and such. You don't have to follow the blueprints it seems.
When you take over a ship, it seems to be very classic RPG feeling as you fight through the ship.

This is exactly what I was hoping for. Via Wikipedia secondhand Famitsu:
Several other reviewers were similarly "overwhelmed" by the "vastness of the setting," which one found "simply staggering."
Design my own ships? I'd buy a straight port of this if it came to the Wii. As it is, I think the game entirely justifies getting a new DS.

Yup, this is very much worth a DS all on its own.
I read one preview that talked about this possibly being the largest game they ever put into a DS card, and how smooth it works considering how much data there is.
They had me at Real Time Space Battles.
I may not be able to stop myself from saying my orders out loud during battles. :P
I've been watching this game since I heard about it last year. It looks really good, but I'm going to wait till I read some reviews (and hear some impressions from you guys) before I order it.
Will definately keep an eye on this one. A game where you can build your own ship, recruit your own crew, and even do boarding actions has been a dream game of mine for years.
I wish I could fuck this shit out of this game, bust a nut inside of it, do some coke, peace out, get free tickets to Maury, get called out on national TV by the game, do a paternity test, find out I am the father and take home my own personalized copy of this game. However, I cannot find my DS.

Oh my fucking God, this.
I don't even have a DS, and I want it - why can't something this cool come out in high-def on 360/PS3?

Because everyone knows the DS is where it's at. :P

The DS is really making me hope someone in an office somewhere, goes "Hey, why don't we just port our 2d DS game that sold a truckload onto the Wii?"
I mean, hell. Capcom's sniffing this right now with the Phoenix Wright port for Wiiware.
How costly can it be to graduate a handheld game? I seriously want this boundary broken. It could be like theater release movies going to dvd. Only, uh, in reverse.
Anyway. March? Yeah, I think I can hustle the scratch for a DS by March. This game's gonna be like a good book.
So, yay, this comes out in like 14 days. Pre-ordered it like 6 months ago, can't wait. Although, Amazon still has it listed as coming out on March 31st.

I am basically likely to buy everything they do.
This does look amazing, though.

EDIT: S.S. Big Shot has a real nice ring to it, especially if there's any kind of Bounty Hunting system in place.
Yea, they'll be tasting my wrath, oh they will. :x

And all that on a DS title. This is the kinda stuff I was wanting from Earth and Beyond and I'm getting it from a DS title. Mind = Blown.

Oh man, Fragile comes out in February here, so I'll have to weigh it against AvP. I'll be getting the Wii Shiren for sure.

Going to get it even if it doesn't, because I love me some spaceships
It is not a DSi exclusive, so no worries.
There is apparently multiplayer in the form of 2 player spaceship battles over local wifi, according to wikipedia.
And I too am eagerly awaiting this game. It will arrive on my doorstep roughly a week after Strange Journey. Both during exams. What great timing.
