MOTW 1/27/10: Mind Your Language

GL #50 was hella disappointing. But Batman & Robin #7 was hella good, although to be honest there is really nothing that meant the book needed to be delayed a month due to BN. Cameron Stewart has some great artwork in this, and Morrison is having fun with Batman being in London with all the yobs, yeah?
Yes, that third panel has the word balloons wrong. Editors do nothing

my motw is easily IDW's Last Stand of the Wreckers
Overlord is goddammed insane, and Nick Roche, the awesome artist/writer, put in a nice sight gag for people who hated two certain things from Revenge of the Fallen
for reference, Decepticons attack an Autobot run prison named Garrus 9, and Fortress Maximus was the warden

Munch, my word is truth. It has the American Revolution and Ms. Liberty in it. Written by a brit!
And rounding out the week, Guardians #22, again the best book Marvel makes each month. It does have some formulaic things, but with good writers formulaic plots are fine because you are able to add character depth. And also because Rocket Raccoon:
In order to stop the Church of Truth from forcing the pregnancy of the Fault blob thing, pilots Knowhere into the Church's planet. That's right, a Raccoon now knows how to pilot the severed head of a Celestial.
And Magus is actually alive and the dead guys are actually alive, Cosmo be praised!
And JSA #35 was a fun issue, if the issues will be like this I won't trade wait for it. Mr. Terrific steals the issue. And pages like this:

Man, I was really frustrated with that word balloon mismatch, probably because I didn't realize what was going on at first, thought the balloons were legit, and tried to make sense of it. Here are two things that flashed through my head in the moments it took me to realize the error:
- Batwoman is from a parallel universe. In her universe, she is the new Batman.
- This is a virtual reality situation; everything that's going on is in Dick's head. He was injured in an explosion, and is now in a hospital or some such, dreaming about this/having it fed into his mind by a VR machine (I guess this scenario is kinda similar to Philip K. Dick's "Ubik")
I guess you can draw a lot of conclusions about me as a person, or, alternatively, about comics in general, from the fact that I thought those two were the likeliest explanations for the middle panel there.
Man I cannot wait for the trade of this. This looks awesome as hell.
Dan Hipp drew a Frankenstein thing, with him looking like young Taxi Driver-esque Robert DeNiro. And now I see Undead Robert DeNiro when I look at Frankencastle. It is awesome,
I wish I had more room for more floppies, I kind of want to read Frankencastle right the hell now, but I'm cutting back to indie-ish titles only for floppies.
And Punisher War Journal did kind of have Punisher in a Venom suit. I think it was a nano active suit or something, but it really looked like a symbiote. He wore it while fighting one of the aliens from Hulk's war party during World War Hulk, I think. Read it in the bookstore.
Frankencastle is now the best punisher story ever told
I honestly think no one should ever go back to gritty realistic Punisher. We had a pretty perfect run of that. I am all for 100 issues of Frankencastle. Followed maybe by Spaceisher.

I have a feeling Frank will be back to normal within a year or two, probably a lot less than that.
Yeah, it ends soon:
PUNISHER # 16
The Story: “FRANKEN-CASTLE,” PART 6 Somewhere on the Demonplanes of black Limbo, two men, two monsters, struggle to murder one another. Frank Castle has taken a pledge to protect the citizens of Monster Metropolis and the only way to fulfill his oath -- murder the hell out of Robert Hellsgaard. But in order to defeat the monster hunter Frank will have to die. Again. The Legion of Monsters are defeated and diminished. Frank’s cobbled body is failing him. The bad guys don’t stand a chance. A swift kick, a jagged bone sticking through your shin -- enter the conclusion of Franken-Castle! Parental Advisory …$2.99
In Stores: Apr 28, 2010
So it will be one trade. I would love for them keep Frankencastle around, but I never expected more than one trade out of the idea.
I would like to see Remender continue his non-realistic Punisher stuff though. Gritty, aging Punisher can stay in Max.

Honestly, this Punisher works a lot better in the Marvel Universe then the other one does.

The same story has Frank using a gun that shoots knives.

The best part was when Overlord first showed up and the rest of the Decepticons collectively crapped themselves.

Especially this scene:
That is one rockin' splash page right there.
Also, I bet the big bad is
If I hear that it's any good, now that Robinson seems to be turning away from serious stories, I may pick it up.
Because I really do want to read about a JLA with Dr. Light, Congorilla, and Starfire on the roster, but only if it isn't terrible.

That's awesome. I assume that's Bendis still? I haven't been paying attention for like 6 months now.
