Finally playing through Braid...

It's quite possible to be impenetrable and well-written, which Braid's plot isn't.
That's at least the nice part about Braid, and really the only reason I jumped in on it semi-blindly: Even taking the story and pretensiousness out of the equation, it's still an ingenious puzzle game that does a lot of clever things and never overstays its welcome. Despite my general defense of Braid and Blow, I normally roll my eyes at Games-as-Art games, because most of the ones I'd run across read pretty well as design documents but play absolutely terrible as actual games.
I only started following Braid a few weeks before its XBLA release, and was pleasantly surprised to find I really loved the entire package. If I had paid attention to the crazy amounts of hype beforehand, or came late to the party, I probably would have thought a lot less of it. (Part of why I don't pay attention to the hype train anymore.)
I remember many occasions when I was stuck on a single puzzle piece for the better part of an hour, trying slight variations on everything I do, when all of the sudden everything clicks into place. And then I thought "My god, this is fucking brilliant. Is this all I had to do?"
I actually have forgotten some of the solutions by now, so I'm thinking I'll try to play it through again soon. And I haven't gotten all the stars before, so I guess that's up next too.
