New Thread Here!BETA ODDITIES, TIPS & TRICKS
Do you see a "-" where latency should be in your server browser?
find your BFBC2Game.exe, right click > properties > compatibility > run as administrator. This should fix the issue, and apparently you won't have to go through this bs for the retail version. General consensus seems to be that these pings are lying to you. Maybe just white lies, though. Better than nothing?
Can't add friends?
Try making sure both you and the friendee are both on the main-menu lobby when you're trying this out. If nothing shows up in the friend-request thing on the right, try logging out and then back in.
Can't delete friends?
Apparently if you add enough friends through the in-game friends list to have to use a scrollbar, the friends list is rendered useless! You will not be able to join friends in games, and worse still you will not be able to remove friends to get back to a list size that works. UNLESS YOU USE THIS WORKAROUND:
go to leaderboards > friends leaderboards and you can remove them from there.
Looking for dudes to play with? Here are a bunch of ways to get in touch:
PC Steam GroupJOIN THIS & ADD EVERYONE. EA's friend list is [STRIKE]still shit[/STRIKE] pretty much functional, but steam is still better
Penny Arcade: Bad Company 2Xbox 360

PS3 Stuff!
Antiwhippy
And maybe you! I might have added you to the wrong list already, just let me know if this is the case.
PC EA Account Things
Important info! It appears that in order to properly add an EA friend, both you and the friendee must be on the main page of the game, not in a game. Send the requests or whatever, then the other guy looks at the requests counter on the right side. It should go up to 1 and you can click on it to see and accept that request. If it doesn't go show up in there then just log out and log back in and it may be there. This seems to have worked for us, anyways.

The Rundown:
The cross-platform (that means PC, too!) sequel to the awesome, console only Bad Company 1. It's got itself a big fancy campaign and a plethora of multiplayer game-modes. If you've never played a battlefield game, then picture DoD:S but with present day weaponry and vehicles(!), and also like 100x the scale. Oh yeah, and destructible buildings. That is every bit as awesome in practice as it sounds on paper.
PC System Requirements!
It's been said that the Beta does not scale well, relying almost exclusively on the CPU, so if you're getting shit performance then you don't necessarily need to start worrying just yet. The full release should be better optimized.

Single Player? In my Battlefield?
Goddamn right:
The sequel to DICE's first ever single-player game, Bad Company 2 puts you back in control of Preston, one of four self-involved US soldiers who adopt an idiosyncratic approach to warfare. The first game saw them on the hunt for gold in a warzone, Three Kings-style, and while DICE is curiously reluctant to talk about the story in Bad Company 2, Gustavsson and Troedsson agree that it's a bit less tongue-in-cheek. "I would say that the guys have had their honeymoon," Gustavsson offers. "They were out there in the middle of a war, everything going on, not so much focused on the war, didn't have to worry about it; more worrying about court martial and missing out on the gold. But those times are gone and now life is turning more serious and they have to face what they're up to."
Also we now know that the first campaign mission takes place in WWII.
Game modes!
In the Beta/Demo, you get Squad Rush. Players choose to join either the Attacking team or the Defending team, and spawn in their respective bases. Attackers try to set up demolition charges on a set of crates in the Defending team's base. For each Attacker killed, the team loses one life, or "ticket." If the Attacking team's tickets run out, game over. If they manage to detonate the crates, a new Defending team base opens up, and the process repeats itself until three bases have been destroyed and the Attackers win.
DICE has also hinted at two special game modes that involve two teams of four people battling it out over something or somesuch. They refuse to give details but hopefully it'll be really awesome.
Kits. What are they?
Kits are your basic starting loadout. They come in four customizable flavors:
Assault
You know what this is. You got an assault rifle with your choice of two types of grenade launchers or an underslung shotgun. You unlock new primary weapons, like a shotgun proper, as you rank up. You also have your standard pistol sidearm. You will also unlock weapon upgrades as you progress, gaining the ability to outfit your weapons with scopes and silencers and all kinds of fun stuff.
You also carry around deployable ammo packs which keep your teammates slinging lead like the badasses they are.
Medic
You have a sizeable machine gun and sidearm, as well as a set of handy defibrillators that you can use to revive downed comrades. Indispensable when the heat amps up with you and your squad frantically defending the charge you just set from enemies pouring in on all sides.
You also have medpacks, which revive the health of teammates near it. Health regenerates automatically when you spend enough time without taking damage, but the process is slow and unreliable in the heat of battle. Tossing out a medpack will keep your friends fighting fit for at least a little while longer
Engineer
You have an SMG or assault rifle and pistol as well, but you have a few intergral gadgets. First is a rocket launcher. Everyone knows what to do with this. Shoot large metal vehicles and make them go boom. This weapon is every vehicle operator's nightmare when combined with a special Sniper-class gadget.
You also have a welding tool. Pretty simple. you use it to fix up vehicles and weapon emplacements. Absolutely vital for any good team player, this tool can be the difference between victory and defeat when the only thing that stands between the enemy and your precious crates is a single raggedy tank.
Recon
DON'T BE A FUCKING RECON THAT SITS ON A ROCK TWO FEET FROM SPAWN, GET YOUR GHILLIE ASS UP THERE AND LAY DOWN SOME COVER FOR YOUR SQUAD. With this class, you will earn the ire of every single maggot on the opposing team who stands still for too long. With your ghillie suit, you blend in much more effectively than any other class, but the lack of a prone option prevents you from being too invisible. Great for flanking and taking out vital targets, like operators of weapon emplacements or UAV choppers. You also have a couple neat items. First is a trio of C4 charges. These are great for opening up alternate routes into defended areas, for taking out tanks from behind, or for the creation of the eternal fan favority, the Jihad Jeep. Put three of those puppies on a vehicle, hurtle towards an enemy entrenchment, jump off, and flip the switch. Kaboom. Second is a motion sensor. Throw this on the ground and enemies within a certain radius will light up for your entire team. Beautiful

I should really start playing with you guys. Playing with random pubbies is really starting to get on my nerves.

Try spamming jump while you are falling? Jump in the PC version while falling will make you use a parachute.

I love playing against teams full of people playing "sniper warz". Keep up the good work!
It is a bit annoying when it happens...and it happens a LOT. They should put a limit on the number snipers per game in my opinion.

They lose games, people. They lose games.
If MW2 tells me anything, it's that people care more about their K-D score than anything else.
Pub games in any objective based FPS are usually a losing proposition. Most people aren't generally interested in working together as a group towards some kind of objective it seems.
That said, personally I'm seeing fewer snipers and more attacking these days, although that might just be me. Medic usage on the other hand tends to go between two extremes of no medics anywhere, and entire medic squads cardiac arresting themselves around the map in a series of leapfrogging electric zaps.
I wish I could sidle up and shoot a corpse in the face point blank to prevent it from getting res'd.
We had their entire team pushed back so far they couldn't even come down the hill without getting completely raped. It was glorious.
The best and worst thing about pubs is that they never seem to realize that if they're getting brutalized the thing to do is to regroup and then head out in squads that can effectively deal with the other team's threats. They always opt for throwing themselves in the fray again and again after each spawn.
I would say "usually" is the operative word, here. By and large most of these players in the (PC) Beta are pre-orders, who have had some BF experience already and know better. I've had a handful of sniper war games, but they either never get out of the gate, or lose their objectives so quickly it's over before it begins.
I agree, hence the reason I put "usually". Natural selection tends to make short work of the sniper teams. It's only frustrating if you actually end up on one of them, but even then I'm usually able to join up with a decent squad somewhere and help drag all the Ghillie suits to victory (or at least a good try at it).
Shame I'm decent at it, although I prefer Engineer these days.
That was a knife-only round (for me). The attackers didn't get past the first set of MCOMS.

For those who don't like screenshots. Watch in 720p.
I prefer engineer as well, although I'm finding it really difficult to nail tanks these days. Most people don't have the tracking dart (myself included), and if they're repairing it takes a hefty length of time to take one down on your own.
I love hunkering down in that pit in the first area of the map, tagging armor and just firing them straight up into the air after locking on, and watching as the hit indicator pops up on my screen.
I love how you have a total of like 36 kills, but only 23 kills :P
I have been trying to figure out just what the hell is up with that. It happens in every single match I play. What the hell does each statistic mean?
Nothing wrong with a couple of good snipers on the team. Especially when the attackers have a shit ton of them or assault classes hiding in trees and trying to blast folks from afar.
Any word on whether or not we have game types like the one in 1943?

There should prolly be a list for that Live-y thing on the Micro-Box or whatever.
And Sony.
Right?
As for Sniper, I try to do more than just sit in a spot and camp. I call out enemy positions and whenever possible, slap some C4 on enemy vehicles.
I'll go around with my Saiga, infiltrating areas, throwing motion sensors in front of my squad and allow them to ambush a spot effectively, then I go hide and start spotting people using the mortar strike's binoculars.
