OK.
I was running about 15 miles a week and my left ankle started to act up. Kept running on it for a week or two until multiple co-workers started to comment that I was limping. I had no swelling, though, at all.
So early december I stop running on it. Lay off of it over christmas and it felt better, but not 100% so went to doctor.
After another month (January) of no running, it still feels better, but not 100% so he sends me to physical therepy. Therepist puts me on exercises at home and at hospital, which I'm doing. Some days I feel nothing, others a small twinge so it's getting better, just not 100% Getting re-evalued March 1.
So.
-Has anyone had a sprained ankle take 3 months or more to rectify? Also, FYI, it's on the inside of my foot, not the outside, so I hear those take longer to heal. Plus I'm 35.
-Are there any dietary/suppliment changes I could make to speed tendon healing? Heard a few things about whey protein? Anything else worked for someone?
-What other stretches would help? I'm doing what the physical therepist told me to do, but heard, say, vigourously massaging the site of the pain for a minute may help?
-Good shoe reccommendations for when I run again? Already have a pair for arch support.
Just getting frustrated because it's taking so damn long to heal so any advice beyond RICE and follow drs. orders would be welcome.
-I owe nothing to Women's Lib.

I couldn't find anything to speed up my ankle recovery, really. Hot soaking it helped with the pain. I wish I had better things to tell you though, drove me nuts having to baby it for that long too. It's important to do just that though, re injuring it will only make it twice as bad. Do your PT exercises, (mine helped a lot) eat good food with protein etc. Be strong!
That's where I'm at now. Thanks, though.
I'd pay for one of those pro-football PAs, though. I know athletes just heal faster, but you know those guys deal with this all the time and know *exactly* what you have to do and eat to heal ASAP.

Holy crap.
What I had researched was that Class 1s take about a few weeks, Class 2s take a month or 3, while Class 3s, where you can barely walk, take 4-6 months, but a year??

because doc told me today i'd be good in a month or so
but is there a chance it could take way way longer
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
Last year, while jogging I (like a f**king retard) stepped on a cement edge and rolled my left ankle. "Sh*t, f**k, sh*t, f**k!!!" I thought to myself. But, I kept running for another mile.
And, because I refused to rest or allow that injury to stall my workouts, it took over 3 months to fully heal. Plus, my foot tried to compensate for the injury and I then hurt my achilles tendon.
I stopped running for a few weeks, bought new shoes, and stretched more often.
Now, last Monday at wrestling I heard a disgusting "pop" and realized that I had just sprained my right ankle.
This time, I've stayed off of it, used ice a lot, and tried to keep it elevated. It's coming along, but for some reason my achilles tendon still hurts. It won't allow me to run or jump and it's difficult to raise up on my toes.
It's frustrating, because I want to run a half marathon in May.
Anyway. Just remember R.I.C.E. and you should be fine.
they're expensive but their shoes are fantastic, especially if you have narrow feet which tend to be more prone to ankle injuries
Yeah...mine was pretty bad though. I was carrying a basket of laundry down the stairs, thus was unable to see exactly where the bottom step was and stepped off the second-to-last one thinking I was at the bottom. My full weight came down on my left ankle and I heard/felt it and my toes go CRUNCH. It took a minute or so of me lying on the floor silently screaming until the agony wore off, then I limped to a phone and called my dad to take me to the ER. I couldn't walk for the first week, but surprisingly it only took two weeks for it to heal enough that I didn't need to use crutches, which was good because I hated those things.
Yours might not take that long to heal, though, depending on how bad it was. I have pictures of my foot with a huge swelling on it 2 hours after the incident, and later on my entire foot was so swollen it barely looked like a foot, and eventually three of my toes turned black/blue from the bruising. My ankle/foot are still slightly swollen in places and don't match my other ankle/foot, and the range of motion is limited. Uh, so be careful when carrying laundry baskets down the stairs, is the moral of this story.
I'm hitting the 3 month mark in about 2 weeks and it's 98% there. First doctor told me her's took about 3 as well.
I don't know if it's a friggin' coincidence, but it made me reevaluate my health in general so I decided to quit caffene and sodas about a week ago. Doc said mine may have been bone brusing/impact injury and I've heard that cokes can fuck with your bones and since my last one, it's felt noticably better.

I'll be at the 2 week mark next Monday and I'm already almost able to run and jump. By the third week, I bet I'll be upwards of 70-80% healed. I love being in [relatively] good shape.
i sprained/tore my MCL a while back
my knee still isn't as good as my right but that's because i've been real lazy with the physical rehab and i was REAL stupid when i actually did it. I basically ignored it. did not adhere to RICE at all
i'd say from the injury to being basically as good as before you're looking at 6 months for a sprained knee
depending heavily on how you take care of it and everything
any opinion on that?
Good for keeping the swelling down during the first 2-4 days. Not really useful after the swelling goes down.
