I thought SC 1.15 removed the physical cd check, I'm fully updated to 1.16whatever, but BW keeps demanding that the cd be in the drive to run.

That aside, something totally whacked out with the resolution/aspect ratio, cuts off 90% of the command bar at the bottom rendering the game rather unplayable.

I read at some point that you'd have to copy some file from the disc in order to remove the disc check. You could also register your cd key on battle.net and download the game from there.
    Hum, ok, thanks.
I'll try downloading the client then.

edit: yea, no, not at that speed. Thanks, saw the fix, and a couple other relevant articles.

Yeah, but the most important thing is that lurkers were fun to watch. Same thing for reavers - their scarabs have like a 95% chance to bug out but they were also exciting to watch.

    -

For those of us starting and ending each day logging into battle.net and then sighing deeply as there is still no SC2 beta icon to be found. :P

This is what he's talking about for copying files from the disk. Got it from the Blizzard support site

    - patch 1.15.2
    Feature Changes

    - StarCraft and StarCraft: BroodWar no longer require the CD while playing the game. To play without the CD, please follow the following instructions:

    Windows Users:
    - Make sure you have "Hide extensions for known types" unchecked. To do this please use the following steps:
    - Click Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Windows Explorer
    - Click on Tools -> Folder options (Windows Vista users may have to press the Alt key to see the tools option at the top of the window)
    - Click on the View Tab In the list, look for the "Hide extensions for known file types" option, and make sure that it is unchecked.
    - Click OK to save the changes.
    - Now you will need to copy some files from the Game CDs

    - If you own only StarCraft, copy "INSTALL.EXE" from the StarCraft CD to your StarCraft folder and rename it to "StarCraft.mpq".

    - If you own StarCraft: Brood War, copy "INSTALL.EXE" from the StarCraft: Brood War CD to your StarCraft folder and rename it to "BroodWar.mpq". If you wish to play the StarCraft original missions then please copy and rename the install file from the original StarCraft CD as well, as listed directly above.

    Mac users:
    - If you own only StarCraft, copy "StarCraft Archive" from the StarCraft CD to your StarCraft/StarCraft Files/ folder.
    - If you own StarCraft: Brood War, copy "Brood War Archive" from the StarCraft: Brood War CD to your StarCraft/StarCraft Files/ folder. If you wish to play the StarCraft original missions then please copy the Starcraft Archive file from the original StarCraft CD as well, as listed directly above.

It'd be neat if the zerg got a cliff-scaling unit; it seems weird that they don't have one and might be an issue on some maps.

Like, something that burrows into the side of the cliff from the ground and emerges on top.

    Zerg has mutas.

Mutas seem like they're far and away the most cost effective air unit right now. So easy to crush someone who doesn't defend perfectly, even without muta stacking.

And the worms looks pretty baller as well.

Nydus worms are scary. Yeah, you know that small one hex that you don't have vision of in your main, bam there's a worm there now and 20 roaches in your base.

The only good thing about not getting in despite signing up right away is that watching streams of people playing has let me see that a lot of people still really suck. I was pretty convinced everyone would be super gosu and it wouldn't even be fun as I got steamrolled every game.

But I think I could beat some of the people I've watched playing.

how can anyone seriously think that a game with four races that are only balanced because they are all functionally IDENTICAL is superior to a game with three races, all of which play completely differently to one another yet are completely balanced too.

    Man what.

The races in WC3 are way different.

Even if they were the same, the heroes are way different, and they're the most important part of the game.

If you didn't like it that's fine, but it wasn't a bad game and there's no sense in misrepresenting things.

Its biggest problem was that the strategies kind of stagnated after a while, compared to SC.

the only way in which warcraft objectively had Starcraft beat was the variety of custom maps, and that was only because the editor was much more powerful, and because of DotA.

in every other way, Starcraft was superior.

I never said Warcraft 3 was terrible.

Just that I have a hard time believing the two came from the same development team.

Warcraft 3 was mediocre and a good bit of fun for the singleplayer campaign alone, but its multiplayer fell flat on its face.

    I don't understand what you're getting at.
What are you getting at? They are talking about beta invites, and the number of people involved. You seem to be talking about the game itself? I'm not really sure.

Yeah, I was talking about number of invites (not sure how he got I was talking about the gameplay). What my point was that letting more people in got more people playing the beta/finding problems instead of people going the illegal route and playing on emulated servers not run by blizzard.

Also too much healing (every race has ridiculous healing), convoluted armor system + damage (SC keeps it simple for the most part and works much better). War3 also has a problem where a lot of the time one army gets steam rolled and the other barely lost anything. Not to mention an army with no hero is nigh useless.

EDIT: Rebuilding is pretty much out too. In team games for Starcraft, you could get nearly killed, rebuild and come back with a vengeance. War3 this takes waaay too long and never really happens.

Well those were kind of the root of the strategy problems.

Once I actually get this game, I'm gonna be god awful. The last RTS I played at all was rise of nations. That game had a button to repeat your production queue infinitely. I would just set rally points in my opponents base and crank out an economy large enough to be able to never stop making units.

I can't wait to be unable to micro my way out of a paper bag.

    I wonder how many opted-in.

And I've never seen more than 3000 people online so far.

So I think people need to stop whining about not getting in.

Even in a sing song manner

    edit: I swallowed my gum

they learned from war3 original. Only 5k people invited in (without allowing others to invite) led to waaay more people playing on emulated servers. War3 frozen throne, hundreds of thousands let in, many migrated from emulated servers.
And TFT was shit to War3's acceptable mediocrity.

And I was saying that for all those testers they still put out a bad game. Whereas the smaller tester base produced the superior game.

    Coincidence!?

not to mention blizzard were giant pussies and kept changing the game every fucking patch in the early goings because of vocal whiners. It'd be like I forgot how to play each time they released a new patch and I hadn't played in a little bit. I mean, how many times, for example, are you gonna buff, then nerf, then buff again Mark of Fire (or whatever blood mage's flame pillar is called)? It seemed like it was changed each patch depending on the level of bitching.
