The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
There's an app for that.

So I finally caught up to the rest of the world in phone technology and have an iPhone now instead of a cheapy little flipopen phone on a prepaid plan.
I got the standard free apps like Google and Facebook and Wikipedia and Yelp and Flixter and iPity. So what are some good free or cheap apps?
Zen Bound was one of the first apps I purchased. It is a really cool puzzle game that really makes use of the touch screen, and is definitely something I would recommend.
Here's a video from super early on that will give you an idea how it works
Bookworm and unblockme are the best iPhone games. I use yelp and aroundme to find food places. And star walk is a pretty nifty astrology app that you can hold up the the night sky and it shows you constallations and is neato
If you've got a media PC hooked up to a television, TouchMouse is so useful. Connect to your wifi and you can use your iPhone as a mouse and keyboard on your PC. Add in a wake-on-lan app like Awake, and you don't have to leave the couch to go from powered down to streaming Hulu.
SimpleNote is excellent note taking software. Groceries is great for doin' your groceries. Both cost a few dollars, but are worth it.
Thirding Plants vs. Zombies as the best $3 I've spent on a game.
If you're even in a circumstance where you're like "Damn, who performs this song" while in a restaurant or whatever, some folks prefer Shazam, but I like Sound Hound, tends to ID songs faster and has a few more interesting features.
Galcon Labs is a fun Risk-like game where you hop from planet to planet with your spaceships trying to take over the galaxy, playing against AI or online opponents. Sally's Spa is fun, as is Adult Swim's Vending Machine Champ.
Ramp Champ is the best, both gameplay-wise and visually, IconFactory puts a lot of love into the aesthetics of their apps.
The This American Life app is great and costs 3 dollars. unlimited streaming of the ENTIRE TAL catalog, links to buy the episodes for permanent download (99 cents each), videos of the tv series.

basically iPhone scrabble. you can only play against another person at a time, but i've enjoyed destroying people with my superior intellect 8-)

Don't buy Bejeweled, it has productivity sucking powers, especially if you have friends on Facebook who play
Must beat high scores
oh, and Hookchamp
Hookchamp is fucking awesome
Rachel and I are considering getting iPhones instead of the Droid if just for the apps!
Space Invaders: Infinity Gene is basically a SHUMP version of Rez. You can play to your own songs too, with dynamically generated levels.
Swords & Poker is surprisingly fun.
Minisquadron is good.
NetNewsWire has an RSS app, if you use it on your desktop then you can sync read status and flagged items between both. It's neat.
Of course none of this matters because you'll just be playing Plants vs. Zombies all the time anyway.
it's a bit cheaper than if we went to Verizon and got droids for the two of us
so, who knows?
hahahaha
Also if you do any tooting on the Twitter, Tweetie is the best and well worth the couple bucks.
A bunch of us SE folk have Words With Friends, which is basically Scrabble with Push Notifications to tell you when it's your turn.
Word Ace is also fun, it's like Scrabble and Poker had a baby.
Flight Control and Harbor Master are both fun games.
If you're even in a circumstance where you're like "Damn, who performs this song" while in a restaurant or whatever, some folks prefer Shazam, but I like Sound Hound, tends to ID songs faster and has a few more interesting features.
Kindle is great for reading, as is Instapaper.
