If Ron Wilson breaks up the Staal-Crosby-Iginla line again I'm going to personally hunt him down. It's only been shown in the 1st and 3rd game now that that line should stay the fuck together, but no, he changes it during the USA game and we lose.

Just saw a replay of the speed skating disqualification. The skater is PISSED (rightfully so). Bob Costas: "I hope they have some version of witness protection for the coach."

I think the coach needs to seek political asylum in Canada.

Uh Ron Wilson is coach of Team USA. I think you mean Mike Babcock.

Where's mah curling bitches?! You can't get me hooked on curling and then not show me CAN-RUS!

Edit: Also, really, CTV website? You're showing curling AND figure skating simultaneously on Sportsnet?

Japanese advertising will never get not-weird.

After the hype of these two favorites it'd be funny if they both fell (ed figure skating)

So . . . should we be happy about Luongo's performance or worry that he still let in two goals on barely 20+ shots?

How are the Russians in goal?

2 goals where his defense really let him down. He was pretty solid, otherwise. I'm not too concerned. Marty just... wasn't fitting. He looked off.

Nabokov and Bryzgalov are two of the best in the game. I think goal tending is basically a wash between Canada and Russia. Our defencemen and over all forward depth is probably better, but the Russians have more game-breakers.

Russia's defense is a weak link (KHL politics or something?). Of course, Canada's isn't great with the bizarre inclusion of Niedermeyer and Pronger.

The Canadian Figure Skater whose mother died shortly after arriving in Canada has just placed herself in medal contention after her short program. She broke down into tears after her skate today. Needless to say, she is the crowd favourite.

I don't like how they've set 3 skaters up as the medal winners after half the competition. They did the same thing in men's, where there's a huge gap between 3 and 4. I mean maybe its legit, even in figure skating, but it seems awful convenient.

The scoring system this time around is arcane and mysterious, but the results seem pretty fair for the most part. I'm no expert, but I was guessing scores tonight and I got within 3 points of their final score on all but 2 skaters shown.
The only score of the competition that I've seriously disagreed with was Johnny Weir's long program. I think he got screwed.

I feel bad for Kazuhiro Kokubo. The entire government of Japan and press seems to fucking hate him for just wearing baggy clothing getting off his flight to Vancouver. I sorta wish he got a gold in the half pipe event as a fuck you to all the haters.

edit: or better yet, get USA citizenship and join the USA team.

Canadian female figure skater breaks down into tears after her skate and the camera shows a man in the audience standing and crying. This man is identified as her father by the announce team and the camera cuts to him a few times for his reaction. You feel doubly sad to see this woman who lost her mother suddenly, and her newly widower father as tears stream down their faces. Later, at the top of the NBC late night show, we're told that man wasn't her father, and a quick apology for the confusion. Oh well, better luck next time, NBC...

I've made the call to include in the timeline the results of the three athletes from Uzbekistan. You might recall them as the country NBC snipped out of the Parade of Nations.

Two of them competed today; one, Oleg Shamaev, came in 77th in the men's giant slalom (but finished, which is more than can be said for the 20 people Whistler ate), and the other, Anastasia Gimazetdinova, claimed the 24th and final qualification spot in the ladies' free skate. The third is a women's slalom skier; she's yet to compete.

28 were eaten today; the grand total of victims has risen to 159.
