I need a new one. I know little about them. What should I look for?

The repair man said go with Whirlpool, kitchen aid or jennair and look for 5 year warranty or greater on compressor. Anything else I need to know?

I'm real happy that my freezer has a giant drawer, which lets me access stuff a bit easier then when I had one that had fixed shelves. Mine still has a swing door, but the freezer compartment is largely occupied by a large vinyl/plastic coated metal basket that slides out. 2 big drawers might even be better.

    I had a bottom-freezer and loved it.

Since it's a big drawer, stuff gets tossed in there a little more and a little disorganized, but its great when the fridge is higher.

Make sure it will fit. The trend in the last 10 years has been to make the fridges bigger and bigger, so don't forget to measure the size of the hole your old one occupied to make sure the new one will fit.

    very good point.

also, get the width of all doorways you will have to move the thing through.

when I got my new fridge, It fit just fine where the old fridge was .... had to take the door off the hinges to get it in though
