We recently picked up a nice tv and a PS3. Now it's time to find out some gaming goodness for it. Looking for some suggestions and must haves. We enjoy RPG's and strategy games. FPS's are ok...but nothing fantastic. Cute and fun games can be good as well. I have some questions about a few games as well...
Dragon Origins? I have read some mixed stuff about it...how does it compare? All the different intros...do they really bring something new to the game?
White Knight Chronicles. The georama stuff...is it a key component like it was in Dark Cloud? How is the online play for it...is the story worth a single player run through? Combat?
Dante's Inferno? Upgraded and more gory version of GoW? I played through the first GoW...is the 3rd one worth it?
Uncharted 2?
That game where you are the teenager and you get super powers and you decide what to do from there...that any good?
Final Fantasy XIII? We really enjoyed 7, 8 and 10 the most...never played 11 or 12. 10-2 was...er...disappointing.
Little Big Planet?
I hate going to the stores and seeing some games, and then sit here at the computer and not recall which ones I was interested in. Good RPG's would be a huge hit with us. Or strategy games.
I know that there is a thread for a few games that I have mentioned, but I can look at the first post and feel just fine not reading the rest of the hundreds of posts as they will likely contain all kinds of game spoilers (sometimes you have to be a little wary about even the first post). If I remember more titles or something, I will add them in.
Edit: Bioshock? Isn't that available on the PS3? I haven't pc games in years and don't own a 360. Wii and DS has been our biggest past time for the last several years.

FFXIII is fun so far, from the 11 hours I've put in.
Heavy Rain is at least worth a rent.
Infamous, the Uncharted series, and the Ratchet & Clank series are all quality.
inFamous
Demon's Souls
Uncharted 1 & 2
Ratchet & Clank (All 3)
LittleBigPlanet
Heavy Rain
As for the others...
Dragon Age is best on the computer, but playable on the console.
My fiancee got Dante's Inferno because she loves those types of games. She only played it for about 3 days before getting so pissed that she refuses to touch it now. Apparently she did not like it very much.
FFXIII... I'm enjoying it so far. Check your brain at the door though, the story takes forever to start making sense, and even when it does you just realize that all your characters are stupid. The fun combat and beautiful graphics are reason enough to pick it up, thankfully.
If you like handling fps games with a joypad then Bioshock is a fun game.
I have a love/hate relationship with MGS 4, when it gets to the action bits its a fun game but the endless cut scenes and having to reinstall the chapters every time gets annoying.
I keep hearing good things about Heavy Rain so you may want to check that out.
Oblivion and Fallout 3 are both great rpg's. (i've only played them on the pc though)

I've got a spare copy of Portal, if anyone wants it message me.
GeoRama isn't as mandatory in the game as it is in Dark Cloud, but it's there and it's pretty well implemented. Without working on your GeoRama, you'll be missing on about 5% of the game's content, but it's the only way to get the best gear for your character.

Trophies are Sony's equivalent of achievements on the 360. Essentially you get a trophy for doing something in a game, for example say you manage to beat a boss you'd get say a bronze trophy. But if you say managed to defeat a boss without losing any health then you'd get a silver or gold trophy. It varies from game to game, it's mostly an e-peen thing. Although some games reward you, for example Uncharted (iirc) rewards you if you get certain trophies. Like getting special items etc in the game.
For example, here are my trophies.
EDIT: Lets see, other stuff.. hmm..
Playstation Home is to be avoided at all costs, it was thought up when marketing types thought this Second Life thing was good but ended out turning into a haven of nutters.
The Playstation Store is where you can download demos, videos, buy games etc.
You can stream music, video etc to your ps3 via a upnp server. For example windows media player has a built in upnp server so you can stream to your ps3. Alternatively you can copy music, video, pictures to your ps3. (this can be done via usb flash drive, external hard drive etc)
Also, I don't know of your technical proficiency but make sure to connect your ps3 to your tv via HDMI and set the output resolution to 1080p. (assuming your tv is capable of 1080p)

I've got a spare copy of Portal, if anyone wants it message me.
Most of the exclusives have been covered above (Ratchet and Clank is especially awesome) but since you don't have a 360, here's some good multiplat games.
Batman: Arkham Asylum
Fallout 3
The Orange Box
Dead Space
Every game I own (bar FF13, because I haven't played it yet) I would recommend.
Also, who is it we're supposed to summon every time one of these threads shows up?

Dragon Age: Origins is good if you enjoy Bioware RPGs. If you've played Baldur's Gate 1 or 2, Planescape: Torment, Neverwinter Nights 1 or 2, etc. it feels very much like those games.
I personally really didn't like White Knight Chronicles, it felt rather shallow to me. Note that I loved Dark Cloud 2.
Bayonetta is great.
Plus there are awesome games on it like Flow, Fat Princess, and Mega Man.
Fallout 3: RPG / FPS hybrid (but you can avoid playing a FPS type game if you choose)
BioShock: RPG / FPS hybrid (magic and guns and research upgrades)
Borderlands: Diablo with guns. So very many guns.
MAG: Probably my first true FPS and currently having a blast with the PA Merch-type-folk
Other than the games already recommended I'd add Rock Band to the list. The better-half and I have logged many a hour playing with our plastic guitars.
I'm tossing a strong vote in for Valkyria Chronicles by the way. It's a PS3 exclusive and just a beautiful game that hit strongly on story, gameplay, music, art, voice acting - everything.
Yes...I plugged a lan cable in to it and we are running HDMI, full 1080p. Our new tv really rocks...quite the change from our old tube tv.
Pausing the action sounds interesting...makes them sound far more promising. I loved Baldurs Gate 1 and Planescape Torment. Never played much of the others mentioned though.
Demon's Souls
Metal Gear Solid 4
Little Big Planet
Final Fantasy XIII
Those are the only things I can FULLY recommend. I could recommend more, but there would almost always be a catch of some kind. For example: Fallout 3 is an amazing fucking game, which I recommend at every oppurtunity, but it has alot of issues on the PS3 so I can't truthfully give it the recommendation it would deserve on another system.
Also, the PSN has a shitload of good, cheap "arcade" games available, but they are pretty heavily reliant on personal taste, so I'll just say that I like the Pixeljunk series.
Also, download the Just Cause 2 demo, if you have the internet. The full game comes out in a couple weeks and the PS3 version will have native video capture and Youtube upload.
Check it out; seriously, the demo is more fun than the Crackdown demo combined with a unicorn.
It takes like two hours max for the important story stuff to be explained. Even if you completely skip the log you should understand what's going on after chapter 2 is finished.
heavy rain
valkyria chronicles
ff 13
uncharted 1/2
demons souls
also bayonetta and dragon age are both great, but i have them on 360 and pc, so i cant speak for how they are on ps3
You'll also get bombarded with nods to Valkyria Chronicles, and I'll agree with it -- if you like SRPGs, it's really inventive and engrossing.
And you said you're not a big fan of FF X-2, so you might not necessarily like the entirety of FF XIII, but apparently it's an eye-bleedingly gorgeous game, so if you like the milieu and want something that'll flex your new TV—turn on, tune in, drop out.
...maybe not Deadlocked until you get through the others. Still a good game, but it's absolutely the least of the Ratchet and Clanks.
XIII is more of a FFX mixed with VI. IMHO.
As for third party stuff, I can absolutely say that BioShock and BioShock 2 on PS3 are infinitely better than not playing BioShock at all (indeed, the PS3 version of the first game has New Game+ and a new harder difficulty level). Fallout 3 is also excellent, but the Broken Steel expansion (which raises the level cap) and The Pitt are buggy as HELL. Point Lookout (the best of the DLC) worked fine for me, though.
Dragon Age is also excellent, but the combat isn't as user-friendly on a console as it should be.
If you like JRPGs, I'm also having a great time with Eternal Sonata lately. I don't know if there's a demo, but if you find a cheap copy I suggest snapping it up.
Short version for exclusives:
InFamous - a normal guy who gets super powers and decides what to do with 'em. EXCELLENT platformer. Try the demo.
Siren: Blood Curse - the best survival horror on an HD console. Try the demo, but know it doesn't begin to showcase what makes Siren an incredible game.
Valkyria Chronicles - try the demo.
Uncharted 2 - a bar-raiser in every aspect save originality. There's a demo.

I am looking to pick up Heavy Rain pretty soon. so ya get that.
I'm not an authority on it - I've played the demo and read a dozen or so reviews - but the consensus seems to be that it's a shameless God of War clone that never manages to be quite as good as God of War.
Based on the review that have hit since the embargo on GoWIII reviews lifted, God of War III is a mind-boggling absolute must-play game. Given that it's published by Sony, it should also be ten bucks cheaper than Dante's Inferno.
I mean sure there's other stuff but really, let's not kid ourselves here...Valkyria Chronicles
Valkyria Chronicles
3DS FC: 5343-7720-0490
Man THEPAIN73, you're right but one is a game everyone knows to buy and another's an unhyped JRPG that's been unloved by SEGA that isn't Skies of Arcadia
You know what I mean?
We loved Skies of Arcadia. Played the GC version...so this valkyria stuff looks interesting...
Vyse and Aika are in VC
Just an FYI.
3DS FC: 5343-7720-0490
And I'd say Little Big Planet. Gorgeous game, and if friends come over, it is a great party game.
Flower, PixelJunk Shooter and PixelJunk Eden are my favourite PSN games.
LittleBigPlanet has a lot of positives by the imprecise controls annoy me a lot.
Uncharted 1 & 2 are both great and enjoyable, but IMO they don't necessarily have much replay value.
Valkyria Chronicles is good, but there are aspects that make it more like a scripted puzzle than a pure strategy game. (Eg. Half way through a battle something happens and destroys you. You then get through on the second attempt cause you know it's gonna happen)
InFamous and Ratchet and Clank are both enormous fun.
Oh
Well then
Yes. Two hours of pressing X, because at that point there are also zero combat options as well. The beginning of the game is horribly boring until the combat opens up.
So... Differing opinions.
Uncharted 2, Demon's Souls, and FFXIII sound like they would be good for you.
Uh, maybe you have bad taste or low standards or something.
FFXIII doesn't grow balls until 7 hours in.
The fact that it was $20 bucks didn't hurt either.
OH YEAH
Get Madden Arcade.
It's super fun.
