I thought that was obvious from that THQ interview

It's just better for those executives to not speak a fucking word to 'journalists' because they're [strike]retards[/strike]silly geese posting DAWN OF WAR 3 ANNOUNCED : FOLLOWING COHO MODEL on the frontpage of their websites.

That said though I hope DoW 3 won't be considered as a F2P option in the future anymore.

I agree, I had to put everyone in terminator armor to beat that, just so they wouldn't be permaknockdowned when I wanted to retreat...

It was pathetic, One an entire squad got taken out with a single hit, but then they popped back up because they had a skill to allow them to insta-revive from time to time. And they got re-deaded again before the attack even finished, before their stand back up animation even had a chance to finish. Another time I activated rosarius and the tank literally bulldozed and blasted my force commander the entire time it was on. I was fucking invincible and couldn't pull off a single action, command or attack because I was being swamped so hard and getting repeatedly knocked down over and over and over again.

Okay, I've reached The Last Stand, and the optional missions that give terminator armour. Are they as ridiculously hard as I'm reading? I wouldn't mind beating them to be a completionist, but I'm not one to punish myself unnecessarily either..

The one with the avatar is easy because you can cheese its AI so bad. Take the right most path and stay on the stairs, go hit it with something it'll walk up to the stairs, maybe attack once and then walk slowly back. Even the support that shows up to help it ignores you 90% of the time.

Be aware, it's a nightmare to do if you don't cheese it, though. You're gonna need anti-vehicle weapons, a force commander preferably with something like rally or force shield, and definitely the rosarius. Also, as good as Dreadnaught is, you probably need him way back, or don't bother taking him at all, because he retreats like ass and rosarius doesn't cover him.

The warboss can be a pain, but artillery can help to take out the support. Rally and healkits will probably help you the most here, as well as some good armor for your tankers.

I'll try cheesing the Avatar mission first then. If I can get away with that, I'll have 2 squads in terminator armour for the warboss level. Probably Tarkus and Thaddeus. Not sure if it would be worth putting Avitus in a set.

    Game ending spoilers:
As I understand it the force commander himself has to reach a certain level of corruption to unlock the "gabe kills you" ending. If the commander is very corrupt but everyone else is not, that ending will trigger. It would probably trigger if you had one or two corrupt people. If enough are corrupt, you go all out baddy ending where you join the black legion or whatever.

I honestly didn't know about that.
I did a corrupt run-through, but everyone was corrupt. Gabriel swore to hunt me down or w/e but that was it. Guess I'm gonna have to check youtube for the other ending

I say I've got money put away for a gaming PC for the first time in ten years, then my school fucks up my Stafford Loan. I'm a goddamn contracted military student, I don't need this shit. So much for the computer. I have a week to get a private loan while my appeal takes two weeks. Otherwise, I'm dumping all my cash into tuition.

Is there no emergency book/tution fund that the school has available when something like this happens? There is one where I work... then again, it's a community college :P

I am an alumni working on a different degree, as well as the Air Force ROTC. I've only been pursuing this for three years and they think I'm taking too long. (They have one degree mixed with the other.) And who's ever heard of a military student completing a Computer Engineering degree in three years? I'm lucky to be doing it in five!

Edit: No, they're aware. And they say they don't give a shit whether your a military student or basket weaver. 60 credits then GTFO

Watching the clips for the plot twist in Chaos Rising, I'm reminded that the dialogue and writing is actually a lot better than Starcraft 2. Sure it's all stereotypes and cliches, but it fits with the characters.

Granted DoW2 on its own didn't do too well for characterising them, but Chaos Rising did a much better job, and Starcraft 2 was just sort of "eh". I would've expected a lot more of a company with their resources, especially after 10 years. They gave it the presentation, but writing often failed to carry it through.

    New Ultramarines trailer.

    http://ultramarinesthemovie.com/trailer

Is it just me, or does it just look... not all that good?

I mean I might've accepted it if this was a work in progress and due in a year's time or so, but the trailer says 2010. Visually, the CGI looks more like the kind of stuff that you might have seen in game intros about 7-8 years ago. It doesn't even look as good as the DoW2 intro, heck, I'm not even sure it looks as good as the DoW1 intro.

Even that intro spaceship looked bad. I thought it looked like something out of Freespace 2, a collection of blocks with textures applied to it to try and simulate ship lights everywhere. Only these days Freespace 2 looks better than that because of the Source Code Project anyway.

I dunno, maybe it's an old build or something, but if this is something that's due to be released this year, it's already looking very dated, especially for a movie (which ordinarily, you'd expect to have higher production values than a game intro).

    EDIT:

No, I think the DoW1 intro does have better textures / models than this. And better lighting too.

Maybe they just haven't fully rendered it yet, but still, 2010.

Gears of War alone definitely looks a lot better than that, and that's rendered in real-time. And released four years ago.

Couldn't they have just used Studio Blur again? Were GW trying to save money on this or something?

What's stupid is they got someone who knows how to write awesome 40k stories to write it, they got phenomenal voice talent, then didn't give it to someone decent to animate. subedii had it right - they should have given it to Studio Blur.

Holy crap on a bucket, this man is right.

We've been so spoiled by how well Relic has treated 40K with DoW 1, 2 and soon to be Space Marine.

The film on the other hand looks like it has a slightly higher budget than some college graphics class.

    Edit:

I want to compare it to Fire Warrior's intro with Space Marines:

Well, the trailer seems more fluid but it feels like this one had more... I don't know, betterness to it.

They were pretty terrible actually. They should fire like they do in Blurs DoW intro. They're more like a big bore MP5. In Fire Warrior, they were slow firing mini missile launchers, which isn't what a bolter is.

Except for the part where their ammunition is a self-propelled .75cal round that is designed to explode after it penetrates it's target. So yeah it pretty much is an automatic grenade launcher.

Question, can you get the full purity ending while still having one corrupt squad?

I know that sounds counter intuitive, but I hear the ending is triggered by whether or not you attack Captain Diomedes and if you do all the redemption missions. Is that true?
