Apparently PC Gamer has an article on Retribution which reveals some new details. In the singleplayer mode each hero (at least in the Eldar campaign) has an alternative unit you can swap them for before a mission (the Warlock could be swapped for a Wraithlord, the Farseer for a Seer Council) and the article mentions an Ork Battlewagon as a boss. Additionally, in a Farseer vs Carnifex screenshot, there's a vehicle in the background which people have apparently identified as a Chimera transport.

The topic can be found here.

    Why do I bother. :P

Well at least the transport's been identified as a Chimera. You don't really notice the transport as much in the PC Gamer UK preview, the picture's a bit more zoomed in (and funnily enough, reversed).

Anyway, the layout of that US PC Gamer article is pretty different. They've got a couple of different pictures. Also, the UK article spanned about 4 pages and had a lot more text. What's odd is that some of the writing seems to be shared between the two. Weird.

I can also see why Evil Weevil presumed the Autarch is a female, since they only show the back. From the front it's pretty clearly a dude.

Whoops. Sorry about that. I haven't seen much activity in this thread, and didn't realize the information had been out as long as it has been.

IG (or IG/Inq, whatever), ork/smelldar campaign and no GFWL - they seem to be reading my wishlist for the expansion.

So IG are confirmed as a playable race in Retribution?

Nothing's been confirmed yet. It's been likely to be IG or Inquisition for a while, but they haven't made any official announcement just yet.

Whilst the release date is in March, IIRC they're supposed to be starting the beta either at the end of this year or beginning early next year. So I'm guessing they'll need to reveal the last race sometime soon.

    Who are the Inquisition?

The Inquisition works as it sounds mostly, individual agents (inquisitors) that root out heresy or specific threats to the Imperium that the other two branches cannot take on. It's a branch of operatives who work outside the normal Imperium law to tackle special threats.

There are three agencies of the inquisition, each working against a threat to the imperium:

Ordo Xenos, specializing in dealing with aliens.
Ordo Hereticus, specializing in dealing with heretics and humans gone bad,
Ordo Malleus, specializing in dealing with demons.

Well also, the Autarch has eyeliner just like the Farseer and Banshee Exarch. You might say, "Well so does the WSE" but he actually doesn't.

Of course I could be wrong and the Autarch is still a male, but it's just my opinion. :P

More people would lurk it if it wasn't so terrible

Everytime I take a peek about 50% is 'here's my made up tau army list for dow2 you don't give a shit about', 40% is paranoid mod intervention and about 10% is relevant.

Aw, shame we didn't get Death Jesters. At least the Warlock looks good.

Shouldn't the farseer at least get a different face though? I mean, it's just Idranel with brunette hair, it can't be that hard to model a new face.

Oh looks like there's a multiplayer profile of the Autarch as well

    http://community.dawnofwar2.com/blog-post/multiplayer-unit-profile-eldar-autarch
With the versatility of being called in anywhere your forces are, the Autarch can be just what you need to swing the outcome of a critical battle in your favor. Once the battle is won, use Skyleap to return the Autarch to the global ability bar to be called on at a reduced cost, and with another volley of grenades to announce its arrival.
Interesting. Getting some Airborne doctrine vibes here. Is there any cost associated with keeping the autarch on the battlefield, Croak?

Finally gotten around to playing this damn game and it's starting to piss me off.

I'm trying to close this freaking gates. Every time I try to close it I get swarm by a billion fucking tyranids. Not the small ones, but instead I get attack by a million ravenours and big fuckers and whatever the fuck.

It's fucking annoying. How the fuck you suppose to beat this?

You can actually retreat from closing the gate and let the Imperial guard take the heat. They take a lot of punishment before they die.

You do not have to "root" yourself at the defensive position, you can retreat back and forth. The Carnifex and Ravenours stop coming after a while, or at least less frequently.

It might be advisable to take a missile launcher on the mission for those Carnifexes.

Also, to either side of the gate there are garrisonable buildings, which you can use to hold out.

Basically at certain points whilst you're activating the gate, Carnifexes will be sent. Feel free to leave it be for the time being to tackle them, and then start again. Once you've finished them all off, more won't be coming.

IIRC Cyrus' det-packs do well against Carnifexes as well.

    This game...

Sometimes it's a lot of fun where I'm actually using pretty clever tactics to reach my objectives.

Other times, it's damn near impossible and he only way I can beat it is by cheesing the hell out of the A.I.

For example, the Avatar fight was me spending a freaking hour kiting his dumb as shit A.I. with a single scout squad. Only because I can't reach my other squads to revive them because they were being stand on by like 30 warlocks. The warlocks one hit kills everything they touch and/or shoot.

    The second hardest difficulty.

Second hardest is really more of a "co-op" difficulty level. That said the game really shines when you set it there and have a team mate to work through it with. At two squads each, you tend to make full use of individual squad abilities where you wouldn't before (and tended to just blob them at targets), the gameplay almost becomes like an action RTS.

The Avatar fight however, is still pure cheese.

Clever... tactics? This game has those? You pretty much just use your guys' stuff and roll forward at a responsible pace.

You're spot on about those warlocks and other instant kill enemies, though. Not so much challenging as just ridiculous.

I manage to kill 3 fire prism tanks by kiting them over a bridge and using a remote detonator. I thought that was a pretty clever tactic. Sadly, those same fire prism tank manage to swarm and kill all my units except my scouts. Honestly, if this game didn't have the scout then I wouldn't bother playing it as much as I am.

They should just rename this game 'Dawn of War II: Scout is all you need. The other marines are just bait".

This is going to sound crass, but are you reading the item descriptions and equipping accordingly? If you're trying to take on 3 prism tanks with chainswords and bolter guns, then that might be why you're having so much trouble.

If you've got some power weapons in the mix as well as rosarius and/or a chapter banner for force commander, then it's hard to say what the problem is. I had my dreadnaught die a bunch of times at the Avatar, but I think he was the only squad.

OF course I'm using the right weapons on the fire prism tank, but here's something I learn about fire prism tanks.

1.) They're ridiculously fast. Nothing stops them because they just run over the environment.

2.) They're ridiculously powerful. If I'm not constantly moving my squads around, then one blast will kill 2/3s of a squad.

3.) Killing 1 at a time isn't hard. But 3 at a time? Yeah..good fucking luck. Especially if they're being escorted by warlocks and banshees that can jump 2/3 across the screen and instantly kill my guy with the rocket launcher.

4.) Once they aggro, they won't unaggro. They'll chase you through all seven layers of hell and up slaneesh many vaginas and dick holes to get your ass.

Granted, I'm playing on one of the more difficult difficulties. But I expected a challenge with reasonable solutions. Kiting the avatar back and forth for an hour isn't reasonable.

Bah, I might just start playing Chaos raising and see if they learned something.

Can't say I had any problems with fire prisms after the very first one you encounter, even on Primarch. The most frustrating thing about them was the fact that they'd sometimes chase you to a teleporter and repeatedly run everyone over to death :(
