I was laid off quite some time ago and had been collecting unemployment while looking for a new job.
As of two weeks ago I have one! Hooray! There was much rejoicing
Well... its an offer letter which I accepted. My start date will be around mid April.
Now... do you stop collecting unemployment when you accept a job, or when you start a job? I would assume the former, but I really couldn't find any information on it.
The unemployment folks might try to cut you off if they find out you have a job lined up. They tend to try and not pay people if they can. You'd best not let them now about anything until you've started working.
I'm pretty much certain you collect up until you start getting paid. Apart from anything, accepting a job offer doesn't actually mean you are employed. The company could still withdraw the offer between now and your start date.
But in any case, why not just call your benefits office and ask them?
Yeah I'd say when you start getting money from the job then you note on your Unemployment that you've found a job. I know when I fill out the questions every week that I have to tell them if I've made any money. If you say yes then you can cancel your Unemployment from then on.
In Michigan you can keep collecting until you actually get paid from your job, so essentially you'd get paid by unemployment while you're working until you actually get paid.

Does it make any difference that I am in North Carolina and will be moving out of state before the start date?
