So I've noticed that WMP on my desktop behaves incredibly slowly. There's sometimes a 3 second lag when I hit the 'next song' button on my keyboard, during which time the program seems frozen. This is on a desktop with 4 gigs of ram and a decent processor, compared to my laptop, which has 2 gigs and a 1.6 which experiences no lag whatsoever with WMP. Both are running version 11. The laptop has 7 and the desktop has vista, could that be the reason for the slowness?
Windows Media Player is poorly optimized. If the slowness bothers you I suggest finding another player.
I'm not even dissing it, because I end up using it quite a bit too, but your best bet in this case is trying something else. I like Winamp myself because it's small and low footprint.
For a minimalist music player, Foobar has become my favorite.
For a not-so-minimalist player with amazing options, Songbird. Its a little more... bulky than Foobar, but comes with fancy addons like one that automatically looks up the lyrics of the songs your listening too. That alone makes it hard for me to use anything else.
