Spent enough time there so far to star a weapon for Lightning and Fang, and was kind of disappointed that it didn't seem to make much difference.
I was hoping to stay at that point long enough to star at least one, maybe two weapons for everyone, and give myself a nice cushion of gil and CP in the process to make the rest of the game silly easy, but that doesn't appear to be possible.
I may just push on and finish the storyline and be done, I've got lots of other games to play.
Cid Raines? I've tried using Light/Snow/Hope and Light/Vanille/Fang but I always end up getting Light killed by his 5 or 6 hit combo he uses when he has wings. Should I even bother casting debuffs on him? How do you deal with him guarding all the time when you stagger him? I've died plenty of times to other bosses but it was usually because I made some mistake. This guy just seems cheap considering he can kill Lightning in one combo when she's at near max health.
When he is going to do his attack, switch to a Paradigm with a Sentinel. They will provoke Cid, and even if you don't get it off in time, merely having a Sentinel in the party reduces the amount of damage you take.
Other than that, just try to keep him in the air when he is staggered.
I'd say use Protect, but I see you aren't keen on using Hope.
Would Sazh be a good idea? At that point in the game Sazh is a much better Synergist, and I found that pretty useful in that fight.
Also yes, what he said.
I tried again with Snow, Hope, and Light and wound up killing him in 1 stagger before he even transformed into the winged version. I guess this fight could be really easy or really hard.
* Now for plot holes! Alright so, Seymour mentioned in Guadosalam that Yunalesca and Lord Zaon lived in Zanarkand 1000 years ago. But Zanarkand was destroyed 1000 years ago. Yu Yevon helped lead the ritual of converting the populace of Zanarkand to fayth in order to summon Dream Zanarkand and continuously create Sin. Now - why he created Sin hasn't been explained yet, but it could be assumed it was for the purpose of revenge against Bevelle, or maybe just ot protect Dream Zanarkand, or who knows. But then...
* ...If Yu Yevon used all of the remaining citizens of Zanarkand to create Sin, how were Yunalesca and Lord Zaon not included in this ritual? Moreover, if Sin was created 1000 years in the past, and Yunalesca defeated Sin 1000 years in the past, did she just defeat it right after it was created? Also, Yu Yevon was her father, so why would she destroy something he created right after he created it? Argh! My head! I hope it goes in to explaining this later. But I guess none of it really matters because...
You're definitely taking 1000 years too literally.
First, Sin was created to protect Yevon as he summoned Dream Zanarkand. This is definitely mentioned somewhere in the game.
Second, when you start to get into things that far in the past, people start to round off numbers. Chances are Zanarkand was destroyed 1013 years earlier and Yunalesca destroyed Sin 998 years earlier, or something similar.
Third, Yunalesca is Yevon's daughter. He needed someone to remain to explain what was going on. That she then came up with an entire religion about it was a bonus.
How long did 64 take you anyway? I didn't bother downgrading my weapons and I got 8 minutes out of the recommended 15. Which was the first try (well, first win. I did lose twice) so no watch.
I ended up using the same strategy on the Long Gui too, but mostly because I was lazy and just wanted to get the achievement and consider myself done. If you slow it, it seems to attack like once every 30 seconds, so every time it did I'd just switch to med/med/med, then go back to offense or buffing or whatever.
Wow you handled 64 a lot quicker than I did. I think I would consistently come in around 13 minutes or so for the second and subsequent tries. (Well, second try over and over again cause I would just quit and load instead of trudging all the way back to the Cei'th stone for the mission.) I had a lot of trouble staggering the fellow even with Lightning using Lionheart for quicker staggers. And the sumbich always seemed to through up Impenetrable Aura in between the stagger and the sweet, sweet follow up beat down. Jerk.
I would switch to med/med/med too on Long Gui, but for me it was the Ultima immediately after a Roar that would do me in. I just couldn't get the heals off in time to take the Ultima damage. I could get him down to 10% HP or so but he would go into Ultima-every-other-attack mode practically and I just couldn't handle it.
I'm in the process of getting the last Trap and I think I might get Master's Seal tonight. So, for Long Gui and 5 starring the missions should I use my gil to upgrade accessories? Or should I just star some Ultimate Weapons first?
Sounds like a lot of bad luck, honestly. I only got Ultima twice. And the final mission guy did put up the shield at bad times once or twice, it certainly wasn't during every stagger.
I got my ultimate weapons between 50-70 for the 3 characters I used. I'd save some money to upgrade a few accessories you'll need for those harder fights, like physical and magical damage reduction mainly.
Long Gui definitely benefits from from Ultimate weapons so you can just pour on the damage train. Most missions that should also help too. For me that last mission help using level 1 weapons however just to up the timer. YMMV on that front if Adus' and my experiences have anything to say about it. I found the Gold Watch to mighty handy for five-starring around five or so of the missions including the final Titan challenge and one where you fight two of those damn vampire-types that throw up the Impenetrable Aura and multicast like it's going out of style.
I also tend to be cosmically screwed as far as luck of the draw goes. While I did get lucky ad all hell and connect with Death on my first try vs. the Ochu in the Titan trials (I was stunned let me tell you) I've gotten all of two Traps in all of my Adamantoise farming. I used the second one to upgrade Fang's Shamanic Spear fully to break it down to get three more Traps. I fear I will have to do the same for Vanille's Belladona to get the remaining Traps I will need.
Fang: 3xPower Gloves and a Genji Glove
Vanille: 2xWeird (sp?) Glyphs and both Catalogs
Lightning: 1xPower Glove, 1xAurora Scarf (the one that gives you first strike), Survivalist Catalog and I think another Glyph.
I'm not really sold on the Auto buff items since they don't last that long.

Surfing around the internet I found ffcompandium.com, which has a great write-up explaining the entire story. It also combines elements from X-2 that were happening during the original X storyline.
Not too much to report I'm afraid. I've spent my time capturing 10 of each monster in the Thunder Plains, Macalania Forest, Calm Lands, Cavern of the Stolen Fayth, Mt. Gagazet and Zanarkand. CotSF was the longest ordeal - I swear that place must be stuffed with pottery, because I was being constantly barraged with worthless Magic Urns whilst hunting for elusive Tonberrys. I once ran into the same damn Urn 5 times in a row, and it didn't seem to want to go away before I finally got frustrated and just let it blow up on me.
I also decided to devote some attention to my casters. Using a couple Return Spheres and Black Magic Spheres, Rikku, Kimahri and Lulu all now know Ultima - yes, they learned Ultima before any of their -aga spells. I decided to take them back to the Yevon Dome to grind some sphere levels off the trio of robots that give tons of AP. I'm trying to get everyone to end of "their" piece of the Sphere Grid before I take on Yunalesca.
Probably will have a more significant update in the next few days.
Zero starred the entire lot of them, but then, considering it expected me to beat one rapetastic form in 2 minutes, I'm not exactly too bothered by that.

Orphan keeps on beating me up! Usually I can get him to about half health, but then he utilizes Opposite Extremes and gets Super Serious Business mode! Even in Solidarity I can't keep that onslaught back, and there is definetly no way I can play that defensively and match his healing.
Rush a stagger, debuff him, put in a bunch of commandos and win.
I was underleveled compared to a lot of people in these forums, with medium weapons and no fancy leveled accessories and I killed him damn quick with that plan.
If you can heal, debuff, tank, have one of the two great healers, and have two good ravagers (three ideally) with at least one great commando you can do it very fucking quickly.
So my xbox decided to log out of live last night after completing 2 of the last 3 missions. When I tried to reconnect it logged me out of my profile... Oh and it did this 90% though my first Long Gui fight (whom I killed in the face with highwind). yay 1 hour and 1 achievement wasted!

Am I suppose to just keep grinding around here with the hunts? I think I've done most of them. I went down into the tunnel with the machines also. I guess the path to the left is a extra boss but it kicked my ass, hard. :x

I'm contemplating picking up FF7 and FF8 on the PSN store - I own the discs so it seems kinda stupid to do so, but the thought of installing them on my PSP and playing on the go is very tempting.
How well do they play on the PSP? Are they widened to fit the screen? Is there any control issues? (I wouldn't think so since the two shoulder buttons missing from the PSP never did anything in the original games that I can recall.)
I'm leaning towards FF8 moreso than 7 simply because I've played 7 a hojillion times and I only ever played FF8 just once and didn't care for it. I thought maybe I'd give it another go and see if the past 10 or 11 years has changed my mind on the whole draw system.
Holy crap does the ending drag on, mind you.. par for the course with a FF game I guess.
Really? The ending is pretty short.
edit: And having just completed the game for a second time this morning, I have to say this is easily in my top 5 games of the series. It's definitely the best RPG I've played this generation (and also the only game this generation that I've finished twice)

Both games control just fine, and you can enlarge the screen, and widen it if you want (I personally kept it the same aspect ratio but had it a bit larger than the default).
I have personally bought both despite having working discs, and I plan to buy FF9, too. They play really well on the PSP, I think, and on that small of a screen both games even look good.
I own the disks for both, and bought both of them anyways, due to my disks starting to crap out. Honestly, you can't beat 10 dollars for classic games. I will also be buying 9 when it comes out.
Have they finally confirmed that 9 will release, or is this just speculation based on them releasing 7 and 8? Also, WHY no Vagrant Story or Parasite Eve!?!? Rrrargh!!!!

Good advice, this has gotten me closer than ever.
The only problem is that Dies Aeris or whatever it's called kills my leader even when she's max health, and this is with her three primary Crystarium sections maxed out.

I still have Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve 2 and Final Fantasy VII in their original cases which looks new still, along with an unopened box with a new PSone in it (got it for 10 bucks!) Might soon wrap that sucker up for that nostalgic feeling.
Terribly disappointed that they didnt make a Parasite Eve 3 for PS3 to be honest, in my opinion it feels and controls far better than Resident Evil ever did, the story is also a good deal more interesting than "G-VIRUS/T-VIRUS"
I really need to finish my retroplay of FFX. It has completely stolen my time. I ashamed to admit this, but I have God of War 3 and DA: Awakenings sitting on my shelf, unfinished, because of how much this damn game has sucked me in.
It seriously is one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I've had as of late. I really like the atmosphere of Spira and am finding the general storyline very engaging as I piece together more and more of it. Sure, the whole "lost technology being covered up by a controlling, hypocritic religion" angle has been done before, but FFX pulls it off really well. The combat is fast enough without being a blur and at no point have I felt out of control. The Sphere Grid has been an enjoyable way to develop my characters - I like how I can choose to keep my party with unique roles, or homogenize them. Top it off tons of items and tons of equipment customization options, and a slew of sidequests and ways to challenge your party, it's really hard to put the game down.
Actually, I take that back. I'm not ashamed to admit I'm playing this game in favor of must-buy PS3 titles, because I'm enjoying the shit out of it. I'm actually considering buying X-2 now, if you can believe it.
When the game first released, I was all like, 'Singing! Dress-up! Girls! Gross!' Now I'm a little older and feel that I have a better appreciation for the world and the characters and would probably enjoy it. It's selling for under $10 at the local Dimple Records so I'll probably snatch it up.
Crap, I think I'm close to 10 million gil and I still don't have a 6th Trap. I'm so tempted at this point to just grab one of the traps in my bags and upgrade/dismantle a Pandoran Spear.
