This game's lack of diverse character models is really starting to hurt it.
It's understandable, and you're certainly not alone. I'm just old enough that I spent much of my life playing games where every townsperson in a game was one of three sprites, almost every monster was a palette swap of one I'd already seen, every shopkeeper was the same exact guy, etc. I half expect one of the druids to say, "It's dangerous to go alone! Take this."
I'm old enough to have played such games as well. I'm OK with it for generic characters. But the Reverend and Leuwaarden (or however you spell his name) are not generic NPCs. They are (important) plot characters. They should not look generic.
You bitches. Quit making me regret buying it before it's even installed!
Is it really that bad?
Anyone who talks bad about The Witcher wants too much. Play it, enjoy it. Don't create expectations for a game which you know cannot be met. When developers say their city is alive, don't believe it. We don't have the ability to create AI that makes a city in a game feel alive. We don't even have good pathfinding methods as most methods require the use of nodes. Just play it and enjoy it rather then pushing expectations on it and becoming disappointed.
Don't worry Big Isy. There's no way I would commit myself to a Let's Play if I didn't think this game was something special. But Wotan is right. The game reuses character models a lot, which isn't surprising considering they only had six character artists, only one of whom had ever shipped a game before (according to MobyGames).
Yeah I went in expecting a decent game and I'm getting subpar, although that's mostly my systems fault I guess. It seems to be really buggy. The initial area is incredibly dark, even with the gamma turned up. Weirdly the gamma setting only seems to affect the characters. It's kind of funny seeing all the characters have a kind of aura about them.
Also, it just crashed after the first M-rated scene with Triss. No warning just a straight freeze during the save right after the conversation immediately after the bed-shaking. Good times!
edit: Had to reboot the computer because the game was so dark I increased the ingame gamma settings to make it a little brighter. That did next to nothing in game, the opening area where yoou first fight is nowhere near as bright and vivd as the LP video. And then when the game crashed and I exited to desktop, everything else was ridiculously bright. So basically, the ingame gamma settings work for everything except the game lol.
And now Steam is downloading the game again, only this time it's a couple hundred mbs. What the hell!?
edit2: Problem solved. I guess it was an update of sorts? The visuals seem to be normal now thank god. It's actually a pretty neat looking game.
Holy crap this game is deep. I don't think 've ever played a game that throws as much at you in the opening couple hours as this does. Didn't have as much a hard time with Morrowind.
haha, never actually thought about it that way. Makes sense. I played it about an hour just now. I love the quests! Getting the hang of the manual tracking of stuff and how certain combat styles are better for specific monsters. Also, opening village a random fat dude tells me I helped him in the past and he couldn't pay me. He's gives me 100 gold to pay off his debt for something I never did! Sweet.
Also also, Olo's quest is the best one I've done in any game for a considerable amount of time. I didn't expect that conversation nor that effect tbh. Hilarious. Cannot wait to get stuck in some more. Shame I'm relegated to the living room couch else I'd be up playing this til the early hours.
Woah. Narrative completely surprised me. I just reached the fight with (early spoilers)
the Beast. The run up toward it was incredible. I didn't see that coming at all. There was definitely something weird going on, but when Abigail explains it all at the end, it just fell into place and made complete sense.
I'm glad you're enjoying it. It's a kooky good game.
The cupcake installment was going to be called Pastry Pasties at one point, but after entering over a hundred and fifty coordinate pairs, usually multiple times to avoid "slips", I decided to A) change the name and 2) find a simpler way to handle this in the future. Meh. There's only one other dryad in the game, so it shouldn't be a huge problem.
I'm shocked. I thought I was doing a fantastic job hitting the quests, trying to get them all. Decided to watch your earlier footage just to see how we compared and man, I missed a ton. In fairness it is my first run through going in blind. The second I saw something in your vids different to mine I stopped watching. Don't take that as an insult, I think it's more a testament to how great the game is. 4am and I only just stopped playing.
Most of that time was spent working out how Geralt could bone Carmen. It's still a mystery.
There is a surprising amount to do, and you get side quests from strange places sometimes. And I don't mind that you stopped watching at all. It's better for you to experience it yourself. I just do these because not everybody can, and I think it's a game worth sharing.
You'll find out something about Carmen in Act III that will shed some light on that mystery.
Reached a bit of an impasse. I think I'm in actII, the one where you escape the sewers and have a couple suspects. Anyway, I've done all the quests including optional ones to as car as I can take them. All of them require more evidence or atleast 500 Orens. And the only wu of making more money is through dice poker, whch will take forever. I guess I just gotta grind it out?
A lot. I've done Yaevin's delivery quests completely and also helped Siegrie's men. I got the Tower tarot card from Vaska(?) and also completed the Drowner and drowned dead contracts. On;y the Echinops, Alghouls and ghoul contracts remain. I can't seem to find the last Echinops despite moving around the island at least three times and have absolutely no idea where to find the ghouls/alghouls. The cave in the swamp doesn't seem to have any. I literally have no idea what else there is I can do.
Oh and done the flower quests for lumberjack dwarf. Only thing I can think of is continue looking for that last echinops rootstock and figure out where in the hell ghouls hide. sneaky bitches.
I remember seeing some in thcaves on the road to Vizima but I have no idea how to go back to that area.
At least one echinops should respawn outside Gramps' cabin. But maybe that's only if you kill him. Also try running the road west of the swamp cave.
There's an area southeast of wyvern island where I think you can find alghouls at night.
What's Raymond's status?
Nothing outside Gramps' cabin and I killed him, found two Echinops on the road near the cave but I can't remember if it was west of the cave or north. As for Wyvern island, only just came across it so I could de well to check that area.
Oh, and Raymond wants money all of a sudden. So much for vengeance

That's the thing, can't investigate Raymond because I haveno money, well something like 24orens. He wants 400. And I can't get into the cemetary because Thaler wants me to prove his innocence.
ooooooh fuck.
I've still got to investigate Meis! He disappears at night and I guess my task was to follow him. God damn, I can't believe I forgot that!

Do they have any plot relevance at all or were they just a bunch of random enemies?

For example, I already have a negative opinion of those Druids simply because they all look like the Reverend from the last chapter.
This is rather unfair of me, but, you know, first impressions and all that.

Anyway, let's not dabble in the drug business. It never ends well.

Ghouls are in the Vizima cemetary/crypt. Also,
