Preserving an autograph on my Zune

Last night I got to see Mike Birbiglia live, and it was an awesome show. Afterwords, I was able to do the meet and greet and got him to sign the back of my zune hd, as seen below

I've been using a black silicon cover for a while, but I'm worried that after a while this will rub the autograph off (it was written in permanent marker). What can I put over it so that it's protected, but also won't take the ink off?

I pinky swear that we will not screw you.

my first thought would be get a screen protector for a cellphone and put it on there but I don't know if it'll stick right to the brushed aluminum.

second thought would be any kind of clear sticker.

third thought would be packing tape.

You could try a Full-Body invisibleShield. Applying one requires you to spray the Zune with this curing agent and I'm not sure if it's a solvent or will affect permanent marker or not, though.

This is interesting. I'm going to look into this a bit more, thanks!

Or you could just use clear nail polish over the sig. Test it out on something else to make sure it won't dissolve the permanent marker, though.

They make spray on clear coat. mask off any part of the back you dont want clear coated and BAM!

I had a painted leather jacket in my punk rock days, I cant tell you how much hell it saw, but the paint stayed good cause we clear coated it.

Why not just get a full body plastic clear case

    Thanks for the suggestions guys.

--Doc, that's actually a good idea, and fairly simple too. I think I'm going to test it on something tonight.

--Jokerman, also a good idea. Will also look into that.

--Trillian, I thought about getting a case like that, but what if something happened? I have no idea what could happen, and all kinds of worst cast scenarios are running through my head. I'm looking to protect it from Murphy, and if something like clear coat or polish is what it takes so be it. I'm not planning on ever getting rid of my zune, so putting something on it isn't really an issue.

Also, what the hell are your avatar / sig pictures about? Making me feel uncomfortable, and I love it.

you should spraypaint clear on top of it... i'd use a paint designed for metal, something like an automotive clear

but the best thing to do, honestly ,would be to get a replacement case for the zune (at least the back) and put your autographed one on a shelf somewhere - b/c no matter what, you'll eventually scratch/dent/lose/dunk in water, etc. a device that you keep in your pocket

This certainly seems like the simplest solution, and probably the best. Time to find out what it would cost. Thanks for the idea.

Maybe you could combine some of the solutions in here, you should be able to use your zune and not have to worry about it breaking. Maybe try the spray on clearcoat\clear spraypaint combined with a durable rugged case.

Or maybe you could get it laser engraved. If it's done right, it will be permenant and last a life time.

perhaps nsfw, but the worst parts are availble to the left and bottom of this post
