Substituting applesauce or fruit puree for vegetable oil in baking sounds delicious.
I'm not sure how many recipes I have that call for any sizeable amount of vegetable oil though, aside from a waffle recipe. Which this would be perfect for.
people metamoderating ITT. I guess if you think they need the help?
As a clarification, this doesn't mean you can't talk about certain topics. The "science thread" is locked, but if you find a really interesting science article and you want to talk about it, make a thread and talk about it. Just don't make it a "put all science things in here" thread.
Different topics get different threads. We're trying to break up how ugly this forum operates, not trying to prevent you from discussing what you want. It'd be nice not to have to rely on megathreads at all in due time.

some of those substitutions are kind of silly.
You can substitute dried mint for fresh!
or prepared mustard with dried mustard combined with the other ingredients in prepared mustard! I don't think it's a substitution if you're just making the thing from scratch.

if you put a marshmallow in the microwave first it gets HUGE and then it turns into A ROCK
n-no it doesnt? I melted marshmallows in the microwave because my wife wanted to try marshmallows in a milkshake. Made a sticky mess of the bowl they were in, but they melted.

You probably have to let it heat up a little in the microwave, then take it out and mix before it gets hard.
