What kind do you have now from your cable co? If it's a Motorola just buy the same one.
This is not the best advice, ISPs usually give you the cheapest option possible.
I would suggest the DOCSIS 3 Surfboard modem. It's a bit more but it work a lot better for a lot longer as ISPs upgrade. Comcast is already on DOCSIS 3 and is planning on rolling it out across the entire country. Read the reviews you should see an impovement with it.
I have one of those Docsis 2 Motorola modems that I got about 4 or 5 years back when first setting up Comcast cable internet here. Is there a chance I'd see a significant increase just changing to a new modem? I assume they'd have no problems increasing the general capacity of the system, but not bother telling anybody they could take advantage of it with better hardware.
I'd suggest calling your ISP first to find out what their policy is with customer owned modems.
I know the local ISP here can't add modems to it's database. You have to buy modems from registered retailers. Unfortunately, people who are buying Docsis 3 modems from the States have found themselves out of luck.

Sometimes I have the most horrible dreams. Or maybe they are real. Do dead men dream?

Problem solved. Thanks all.
