Rules and schedule in the spoiler.
Be aware that a practice session will be held on the normal Thursday race nights, give you a shakedown run for the upcoming race.
Rules
- No AWD
- Race shocks, Springs, Brakes, Anti-Sway bars are required.
- All races will start with a 2 lap, collision free race for qualifying, if more than 8 people show up, 2 lobbies will be created and each will run a qualifying race. The lobby leaders will start a party and compare lap times and the top 8 times will be put into a lobby while the remaining people can do what they want. This is a qualify or go home event.
- The race itself will have enough laps to do about 45 to 60 minutes of solid racing with 2 required pit stops. Have a scratch pad of paper near by and when you enter the pits, write down what lap it is on, if someone thinks another racer didn't do comply with the pit rule then bring it up to me, I'll find the laps the driver pitted on and verify it on the replay (which will be saved for EVERY race)
- Overly aggressive driving will be frowned upon, and if someone thinks they were taken out intentionally or the other driver was somewhere they shouldn't have been bring it up with me via PM and I'll look it over. Penalties could be anywhere from a couple points lost to forfeiting the race. You'll have a lot of laps (possibly 40+) to pass, so don't try to force it when it's not there.
- A first turn crash = auto-restart unless all the involved drivers say no. A first lap crash involving 3 or more cars = auto-restart unless all the involved drivers say no. Being spun anywhere but turn 1 =/= a crash, that's just bad luck. Being spun and smacking the wall, however, is a crash.
- Points will be 100 for 1st, 80 for 2nd, 60 for 3rd, 40 for 4th, 30 for 5th, 20 for 6th, 10 for 7th, and 0 for 8th.
- You are expected to run the same car for every race. Part of the fun of this is to tweak the tune from weak to weak for each track. If you want to do a permanent car change bring it up in the forums and we can discuss it as a group

Other Forza info no one ever reads:So, Forza 3 is out and you all know it's the best racing game
ever.
For the xbox that is.
I'm not going to waste a bunch of time filling out on game details, if you are ignorant of what Forza 3 is, you can go view this
fine thread. What I will waste time on is the meaty stuff: Tuning, Driving, Race Nights, and Upcoming DLC.
Previous threads:http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?t=104264http://forums.penny-arcade.com/showthread.php?t=91948Tuning:
Mostly an art, by far the toughest part of the game. The good news is you can get a pretty decent tune set up by filling out a spreadsheet. To get a really awesome car you'll have to invest time in it, but Feuerdog's tuning calc gives a decent baseline in a minimum amount of time:
http://forums.forzamotorsport.net/forums/ShowThread.aspx?PostID=3073197&wa=wsignin1.0
Things to keep in mind when tuning your car:
a) Are the tire temperatures even? Bring up the telemetry screen and scroll to the one that shows all four tires and the temperature bands. Get your tires nice and warmed up (in the 190 degree range) by doing a few laps and looking at the three bands. Is the inside edge within 5 degrees of the outside edge? If so, super. Your tires have great contact with the road and are doing their absolute best to keep you on it.
If the inside edge is hotter than the outside edge, you have too much negative camber. Reduce the camber by one or two points and go driving some more.
If the outside edge is hotter than the inside, do the opposite.
b) Does the back end swing out every time you leave a corner? This means you need more grip in the rear. It could also mean you need less grip in the front. This is a job your suspension and roll bars are intended to help with. By adjusting spring rates and roll bar tension, you can adjust the oversteer/understeer balance so the car remains relatively stable coming out of a corner. This may result in less overall grip, but should give you a more controllable vehicle. Basically:
If the back end swings out on you every single time, soften up the rear end. Or stiffen up the front end. For roll bars, increment by 3-5 points. For springs, increment by about 50 points. Only adjust one end of the car at a time.. do the rear, see how the car feels, and on your next adjustment do the front. Adding downforce to the rear can help with this too. Increment in 10lb segments.
If the front end starts shrieking on every corner and you slide off the track, you need more grip in the front. Same as before, just the opposite: stiffen the rear, soften the front, or add downforce to the front.
Some cars refuse to settle down. This is most often true with extremely powerful vehicles with a lot of torque. Sometimes the only cure for oversteer is less throttle.
That should address the most significant problems. I'll flesh the section out as discussion takes place in the thread.
Race Nights:
I usually run a weekly race night over on the Arcadians forum. It takes place every Thursday at 9pm eastern. The basic idea is to take a limited set of cars, tune them to the best of your ability, and show up for races to compete against everyone else.
Race restrictions typically get posted between Friday and Monday. Links to the restrictions will be posted in the thread. Party invites all go out at 9pm sharp, it's first come first serve. No whining if you can't make it in.
Also, please spend the funbux to get the Nurburgring GP track. This is a seriously awesome race track, and I try to drive on it as often as I can. If it's on the list of race tracks for the week and you don't have it.. tough luck.
DLC:
We just had some DLC come out, most of the cars were snoozers. The SHO Taurus is pretty cool, but is not the free car of the pack.
The really awesome DLC will hit this summer: The Jalopnik Summer Car Pack. This is a pretty neat list of rides:
1. 1970 Chevrolet El Camino 454 Super Sport
2. 1983 Volvo 242 Group A Homologated
3. 1982 DeLorean DMC-12
4. 1992 Ford Escort RS Cosworth
5. 1982 Lancia 037 Stradale
6. 1973 BMW 2002 Turbo
7. 1971 De Tomaso Pantera
8. 1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500
9. 1977 Saab 99 Turbo
10. 1990 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evo II
11. 1984 BMW M635CSi
12. 1971 AMC Javelin AMX
13. 1992 GMC Syclone
14. 1988 Mitsubishi Starion ESI-R
15. 1986 Dodge Shelby Omni GLHS
No release date on this one yet, hopefully it's soon.

The upcoming car pack is a pretty big let down in comparison. Think it'll be the first I skip out on.

I've been also meaning to get to work on putting out stuff for the storefront, but I've been strapped for inspiration. Sadly, the thing for me that has sold the most, is a simple blue Michigan licence plate.
Which is perfect, because I'm never on the road... no sense needing them.
Steam: Kemlo
I'm going to tune one to top out at 141.622kph.
Otherwise, it's kind of pointless.
its the one where you're in a forest, on a narrow road covered in chalk or paint notes
It's a pretty technical track, has some really painful corners. But some really awesome straights.
I seem to recall doing a race like this in Forza 2, with a similar grid. The F40 looked the best on paper, but wasn't very competitive due to the fact it's so close to the PI limit already.
I went and raced a stock F340 and on the second lap ran a 1.38.293
and thats without a transmission upgrade.
I'm not exactly quaking in my boots though since I'm sure everyone will just crash all the time like normal
Yeah, I was looking pretty hard at picking up the 84 GTO. 2500 lbs, 400 hp, and 120 PI to play with.
Their AWD offerings drive pretty decent, at least compared to RWD Lamborghinis, but they've never been known for handling.
Compared to those cars, I seem to be able to only choose two between equal speed, handling, or grip. Again, it's no awful, but I'm a perfectionist. And super competitive. :P
I'm thinking of just tuning up my California since I know it's a solid car and I have zero time to fundraise let alone tune up another rig...but I picked the 355 because it's the closest thing to the Rad Racer car, and I don't want it to suck.
We need to give Japanese cars some love too, I always forget about them. I do hate ricers, but it's unfair to ignore a large portion of the game's car selection.
It'd be similar to what we did with the Elans and Chevelles, but modernized.
I'll sort out the details later.
Does Saleen count as a "tuner" shop? Because I could do something like US tuners versus Japan tuners.
edit - bonus points to anyone who recreates Vin Diesel's ride from F&F.
Maybe we should just do a "The Fast and the Furious" night, where we take any car from the movies and use it to a certain PI.
In any case, I've got my car, and I'll download the GP track tonight.
Diablos.
edit: Xzzy, if we do the "tuner company vs. tuner company" thing, it's just going to be Saleen against MINE'S. I'd prefer a wider field of cars.
edit edit: I ran a 1:32.9 on Sunset after 4 laps You might not do too well, Bast.
see the point I was making was that the 430 and Murcialago have such a huge HP advantage. But now I'm thinking maybe Sunset Peninsula wasnt the best example track since theres not really any technical corners and theres a lot of straights.
edit: Well, pick a track and I'll run it with the Diablo. We can compare times on something more technical.
