SHADOWRUN MUD
Metzger MeisterIt Gets Worsebefore it gets any better.Registered Userregular
go here, play 3rd edition shadowrun, boggle at the complexity of typing in a direction or "put katana in duffelbag" and then actually wonder how the fuck you got lost in a world made ENTIRELY OF TEXT.
When I was 11 years old with my father's Mac and no games or money, I played the hell out of MUDs. Nothing comes close to the levels of ridiculousness and complexity in some of those things.
Well you can use points to start with a certain amount of nuyen so just start with a shitload and get better shit.
really don't know fuck about shadowrun

the only thing i know about shadowrun is that i can play as a minotaur who hits people with a laser axe while wearing a Hawaiian shirt and cargo sorts and that is enough.

well I definitely just accidentally spent all my karma on melee skills at the beginning of the game
not that that would have been a problem if I had not rolled a magic user
Shadowrun is so complicated. It kind of drives me nuts.
How complicated could it be? It only uses one sort of dice!
Compared to something simple like Call of Cthulhu, it is all sorts of unnecessarily complicated. I would even argue that it makes D&D 4th edition look simple.

You fuck wit' Die Antwoord, you fuck wit' da army.
I feel like so much of my life just got wasted. Throwing together abilities with no idea of what they will actually end up doing for an hour isn't my idea of fun.

My friend is working on a roguelike game you can play if you want to. (It has free demo)

4th edition d&d was specifically designed to not be complicated at all

So many things were dropped when they made 4th ed shadowrun. A lot of them unnecessarily. Like making summoning the same for all traditions, took out some cool variety that made different magicians actually play differently.

I am so glad I really don't want to play a decker anymore or I was insane enough to in the first place
Eh, I'm kinda harsh on it, I guess. I'm sure it's got redeeming qualities, but I really don't like it.
I bought the PHB, my group tried it and we reached a consensus that, if we're gonna play D&D, we're gonna play 3.5. That would have been the end of it, but the fucking neckbearded man-children will not leave us the fuck alone about it. It's put an even worse taste in my mouth about the whole thing.
That, and the fact that I'm really jealous that Dark Sun didn't get a 3.5 makeover.

I still play 3.5 too, but man 4th is so simple and smooth

Man, I'm not saying they are man children because they play 4e. I actually know a few pretty cool guys that play it.
But the two 4e groups that haunt our FLGS are a confederacy of deadbeats, morons and pedophiles. Whenever 4e comes up, the memory of Fred's intimidating odor wafts through my minds nose.
If I wanted to stir up bullshit about this, I would have posted in the various RP mega threads that I've seen here. But I just want to let bygones be bygones.
But don't pretend it's not simplistic. Maybe you like that about it, sure, I can dig it. But the game is Easy Mode all the way through. It's not that I like doing math, but I want a bit more control over who my character is and what they do.
And you know what? I'll admit it: I LOVE 3.5, because I KNOW 3.5. It's my first game. I blew all my spare cash on 3.5 books in high school, and I've got a pretty impressive library of them.
It's the language that the game center of my brain speaks in. Whenever I'm learning a new game, I try to equate the parts of the new system to parts of 3.5. Because of this, 4e feels... hollow to me. It's not as rich or complex as the 3.5 system. I don't like the way gameplay feels, I don't like the setting, I don't like how bare it feels. And don't get me started on alignment.

You are using:

<worn on legs> a pair of faded jean shorts

On the other hand, I seem to be paralyzed...

You didn't just fucking say this.

d&d 4th is pretty simple dude

If you find 4e complicated, this may be more your speed. It's pretty much the same, just not so many big words. It's even got similar artwork!
oh you're one of those guys
we call them silly gooses around these parts

Maybe I've just been spoiled by WoD.
