Halo [REACH] Beta OVER. Go Back to the TBK thread.
EvilBadmanDO NOT TRUST THIS MANRegistered Userregular
You can guarantee access to the beta by purchasing a copy of Halo 3: ODST. It does not matter if the copy is bought new or used; the disc itself acts as the key. You will need to keep the disc to continue playing the beta after the first download, so no grabbing the beta and then trading in ODST.
Listen up ladies, the Brass saw fit that I stop the babying around here. The Covenant are on Reach and they are in dire need of an ass kicking, and you're gonna to give it to them. Since readin' a training manual ain't a normal Spartan hobby, watch this short video. I don't want to have to stop this ride because you went an made an ass of yourself.
Sorry, I got distracted by that fine ass lady there, and I know what the ladies like. Trust me.
Intelligence suggests the following:
The Arena, which is where grown men fight for glory is open.
Invasion has begun, kick those split lipped bastards in the mouth for me.
The Covenant are assaulting some key Generators on right now.
Unless we get some sort of miracle, we're not going to be fighting here past the 19th of May.
You learned up? Good. Get goin', the rest of this message is just some pretty pictures you can send home to Earth. If ya make it back alive.

When I was a kid I always thought it would be cool if there was a multiplayer mode where it was a coop game except the enemy team was just maybe one or two people assisted by the normal computer AI in a level. The players might be a boss or might even control the AI in a way, setting traps and that sort of stuff. Why has no one done this? Unless I missed it.
Kinda like Left 4 Dead, then?
Sort of except more of a traditional FPS game is what I had in mind, like goldeneye.
Perfect Dark.
Did it have it? I don't remember anything like that really.
Okay that did not work, but you get the idea.

Yes PD did have it. Called it Counter-Op mode (in contrast to Co-Op mode). Player 1 was Dark, player 2 was one of the enemies. If killed, he would take control of another nearby enemy.
Oh ya I remember, maybe that is where I got the idea as a kid. Anyways I wish games would take that a bit further and give more options. Sort of like left 4 dead but with more AI control and maybe even some trigger placement. Kind of like the UMS D&D games on Warcraft 3.
I played some Halo3 online yesterday and it feels so different.
I might be imagining it, but no matter what my ping is it always feels really laggy, specifically regarding killing other players. It doesn't feel laggy when actually fighting them, but the killing blow, whatever it is, always happens half a second before the guy actually dies. It's really evident with melee.
*smack* [half a second] *dead*
It feels really jarring, and I am so glad this seems to have been completely eliminated in Reach.
1) does meleeing in the back not kill in 1 hit if you dont hold it and do the whole animation?
2) how does one use the grenade launcher, I am terri-bad at it. People seem to get it to explode on me all day long, but I just have it helpless roll by people or whatnot.
Bonus questions) I am also terribad at the focus rifle, am I doing something wrong there? I cant seem to kill anyone with it unless they are pretty close.

1) It should auto-kill. I'm not 100% sure why it doesn't sometimes, but if it doesn't then all it takes is a 2nd melee anyways.
2) From what I understand you fire the grenade launcher and hold down the trigger while firing. When the grenade reaches your opponent then release the trigger. Might be wrong here.
Bonus) I'm not entirely sure what the focus rifle is.

1) No, it is still a 1-hit kill. The assassination is simply a fancy tea-bag. Nothing cool for it, just a show boat move that puts you in a high risk situation.
2)Hold down the trigger to fire manual mode. Upon releasing the trigger, your grenade will explode.
Bonus) The Focus rifle is made to be held down on an enemy. I've seen a few guys in Invasion not understand how it works, because you see them hitting the button every half a second, over and over again like a regular sniper rifle. You need about 3 full seconds on a single target to kill it.
What I found helpful, is that once you start in on the target, rather than change your aim left or right, strafe left or right with your target, since you're both covering the same ground.
So apparently people in crazy king don't always care about taking control of the hill. Last night I had a match where most of my team didn't even bother going after the hill for most of the fight. I'm not a good player at all yet I'm the one who scored most of our team's points :S
After an Invasion game the other night, I've come to the realization that to truly utilize the Grenade Launcher, ALWAYS fire it with the trigger held down, and then release it when it's near your intended target.

I don't see why you wouldn't. It increases the chances of a miss becoming a hit exponentially.

The only reason you wouldn't would be to get a quick shot off and reload.
Well, it also helps with reflexes and reloading. I say this because if you're holding down the trigger, your grenade will bounce off vehicles instead of detonate on impact.
For example: If I see a Scorpion straight down the road, I can fire a shot off, and just assume the grenade will make it. This lets me reload faster for any other occurrence I may need it.
Tea Party tried to jack a ghost, and the moment she was swinging around to kick the elite out, the ghost blew up, and she found herself a bit startled to be alive.
I've made almost zero replays with this beta. I'm not sure why, lots of awesome stuff has happened, I just forget about it. And then when I remember later, decide I don't care anymore.
Just the thought of having to go through my video history digging up the golden moments makes me blah. I wish they'd add a button in the post game to "save last game" so I could easily filter out dull games from good ones.
Even better, a button to press while I'm in respawn to set some kind of bookmark in the film, let me jump right to the cool stuff.
You can hit Start at any point that's not during a game to navigate to your history and save a film for reviewing later, even while you're searching for another game.

But Forza gives me an option in the post-game stats, staring me right in the face so I never miss it. That's what I want!

Friday is when the Generator Defense playlist opens.
After Invasion being so different, yet oh so good, I am absolutely pumped for Network Test 1.
More like no one reads the OP, and the Beta will be over in 10 days.
really hope i can try a bit of generator defense.

1. I still suck as a sniper.
2. Armor abilities...totally awesome, feel they level the playing field for crappy players like me.
3. ?
4. Prophet.
Nuh-uh, I have yet to see a Prophet in thi... oh, I see what you did there! :P
